Amazing Boat Trip & Ancient Ruins in SIDE TURKEY 🇹🇷

- SIDE, TURKEY: Exploring the ancient ruins and historic sites on a day trip to the Turkish city of Side overlooking the Mediterranean coast. After lunch I took a boat ride along the coast.

I caught a local bus from my all inclusive resort to the historical city of Side where I walked around, saw the sights and learned a little about the city’s history. It’s close to Manavgat and these days hosts a lot of hotels and apartments frequented by tourists in the summertime.
For such a small place there is an incredible amount of Greek and Roman history lying in the ruins of the ancient city walls, gates and temples. As I walked towards the waterfront I passed the Anıtsal Çeşme (Nymphaeum) and a giant amphitheatre which would accommodate 20,000 spectators in its heyday.
Down by the sea I found a pretty harbour area as well as the conspicuous columns belonging to the Temple of Apollo - perhaps the most spectacular sight in Side. Later on I found a Turkish boat owner willing to take me out onto the Mediterranean Sea for an hour so I could catch a glimpse of the seaside temple from out on the waters.
Side is definitely worthy of a day trip if you’re staying in the area and it's a place that is guaranteed to keep you busy whilst you’re there.

Bonus Video! Yea you need to do a deep dive into Turkey one day. Which you will love because there is so much history and the long haul buses are the best in the world. They had wifi, air con, snacks and made enough stops for food and water closets. That's the perfect boat hat. Maybe next video you can film from your yacht with your proper captain's hat! That sunset drone shot 😍
Well I only wear the captains hat when I'm sailing a tri-deck yacht - it's a strict rule I have 😂. Those Turkish buses sound great, all the mod cons and a decent price too I bet. I'm sure I'll make it back to Turkey for some proper exploring one day - am certainly looking forward to it!

Yes I'm all good thanks, hope you are too! Unfortunately this was a chill-out holiday and I only made this video from the trip, Turkey is definitely a place I will be going back to though - like you said there is so much to see and learn there! Will be posting something very different on Sunday!
Incredible that the boat was only 3 euros. Was it coincidence that no one else booked onto it, or is that price to secure it for yourself? Loved the ruins, and even more special seeing them from the water as that's not usual at many ancient sites!!
Yeah seeing them from the water made them look even more special. Especially with the sunlight shining on them. Well I'm not sure if it was an official tour boat as I got talking to him in the harbour and he offered me a one hour ride to see the area.

Thanks Paul, Serbia is a country I haven't made it to yet but it's on my list! Really excited to explore there someday, thanks for your kind offer - I will keep it in mind. Sad about the shooting, it was on the news over here quite a bit, what a tragedy. My thoughts are with all those affected.
How the site was ruined?
Various invasions and attacks over the centuries, most notably by an Arabic fleet in the 7th century. To be honest this was just a quick video more intended to show the sights - I wish I had of spent a bit more time filming a full video talking about the history and exploring the ruins in a bit more detail.
