Do birds have one generic call, or different ones depending on the situation? For example, warning calls, morning calls, mating calls, random singing etc.
they do have different ones, as you say, like alarm calls and mating calls, and the sounds the young use to call their parents etc. I find it all very confusing :)
I loved this, reminded me of bird-watching when I was little! Tyvm, sparrow and blackbird! I have a bit of a quiz, I have had a bird in my garden, and either it, or it's ancestors have been here for years. I don't know what it is, my twitcher stepfather has been NO use, telling me it must be an "LBB" funny guy! (Little brown bird) I think it MIGHT be a chaffinch, but I have never seen anyone recording this version of its song if that is what it is... I can only describe it as a "brrrrrr.. cheep.......... brrrrrr.. Cheep" continuously most of the day, most of the summer! I am short sighted and loathe to wear my glasses, so my husband managed to film it on his phone so I could finally get a better look at this elusive little fella, I have only managed to glimpse it this far, and it LOOKS like a chaffinch, but it's shaky and blurry haha!! Can anybody shed some light on this pls? This is South East England. Erm..... Asking for a friend! 😉 hehe!
Thanks for the comment. It's possible it's a chaffinch. They are brown with grey cap and feathers. I have another 'common' British garden birds video, which may have its song for you to identify it by.
That was great fun and very helpful. The end sounded like my garden in the morning. House sparrows and goldfinch, maybe? I was surprised how well i did with it overall, the multiple choice definitely helps categorise the different types of birds and their similar yet unique sound patterns. Individual frequencies on the spectrum, sonic geometry. I think all things in nature has one and we're so blessed to have so much all around us. Love and Blessings from Manchester. ☄️🌼
We used to have loads of the beautiful barn owls but not any more to to barn conversion but I still get robins song thrushes and others there is nothing nicer than bird song when one feels down.

Magpies sound totally different when teaming up with crows to chase off a red kite. Every bird in the neighbourhood has a go at those shitehawks, send the buggers back to Wales where they reintroduced them from.
Hello Really like the video but I would like to mention that there is an error on question 2🤔 The choices for this question were (A)Twite, (B)Common Redstart, (C)Blackcap and (D)Wood Warbler. You said that the answer was (C)Blackcap. This is incorrect because the call heard is a hard rattle. Blackcaps do not make that noise. The Blackcap's call sounds like stones tapping together softly, similar to that of a Stonechat. The correct answer is Wren. Wren's make this call as a form of an alert. To double check this I used Cornell's labs Bird net sound identifier to confirm it as a wren. Please do amend the quiz or make viewer's aware of this.😀 love your channel
I was wondering that also, what looked like a blackcap sang at me the other day and it didn't sound like either the recording here or anything else I've heard, each bird does vary song though in some cases I've seen..

Ideal for people starting to learn bird calls. All of these birds have several calls plus songs, not all of which have been captured in this video.
A couple of them didn’t sound typical especially the robin
