Thank you! I don’t have a vision impairment as such, I just can’t see close up without my glasses, like anyone else getting old! I have now set up the zoom function so I can see the small text when I don’t have my glasses. ❤❤

Sam, great video! This will be helpful for low vision users new to the Mac. I do have one word of caution regarding changing the screen resolution. Many modern web applications may break at lower resolutions. Content will be lost or cut off, or unavailable. Working with a number of complex web applications over the years, I’ve personally experienced this. I would honestly recommend leaving the display at its default resolution and rely on Zoom for enlarging screen content. This way, you will be able to read the content without potential loss of content or functionality. Working in software development doing accessibility testing, I can attest the fact that nine out of 10 websites are not developed to be accessible. Many of them even include menus, which are extremely frustrating for magnification users.

Excellent tutorial, Sam. 👍 I've been on Mac since last century and using accessibility since becoming Low Vision six years ago.
it looks like you are on Sonoma. Can you check something for me?
In the Apple applications NOTES and TEXT EDIT, does Speak Item Under the Pointer perform properly?
That is, it should read paragraph by paragraph, as it does in Mail or Safari.
It stopped doing this for me when I upgraded from Ventura to Sonoma.
Don W. Says it doesn’t work for him either.
This is IMPORTANT! to me, especially inn NOTES.
    Thanks

Hi Sam! I’ve been using a Mac for the past 2 decades almost. But I’m planning on retraining in a windows computer for work. But, do I fix my Mac (battery dying and ports are dodgy) and use Bootcamp with Dolphin loaded… or do I get a cheapish windows pc or laptop and get whatever magnifying software with speech that works best? I learn all these keystrokes slowly so the easiest path is my preference!

Luckily, all the basic concepts on each system are similar. So going from one to the other doesn’t take a long time to figure out. I’m a big fan of the easiest option is the best. Also whichever option is the most affordable! If you did switch to windows, the built-in magnifier has pretty much everything you will need regarding magnification and speech. You may not even need to mess with dolphin supernova. That being said, if you are used to a Mac and don’t want to change, you could stick with that and just deal with the small annoyance of having to go back-and-forth from your Mac at home and windows PC at work. It’s doable, but might get annoyingly frustrating after a while!

I use spoken content many years and some years my favorite browser was Safari. But after one of McOS updates it doesen't work as I need. For example, to scroll web pages I use arrow keys and Safari scrolls pages for me when push arros but after call spoken content arrow keys moves invisible text cursor and I don't know how to change this behavior. I have no that problem in other brousers but Safari behaves in this way now after one of updates.

Concerning which ecosystem to be in, I value Apple's commitment to privacy. When I register at a new site, I am thankful for the option to register with my Apple ID. knowing my address will not be shared.

thanks! I consider myself a pretty good user but a few items you shared look pretty cool. Wondering what accessibility will be in Sequoia

Good question! probably something crazy like smacking the side of your monitor triggers some accessibility setting, lol!
