- Smaro Gregoriadou transcribed and interprets Air Variations ("The Harmonious Blacksmith") from Harpsichord Sonata V by G.F.Haendel. The work is played on a high-pitched pedal guitar with scalloped frets and movable back, tuned 4 semitones higher than ordinary. It features Kertsopoulos Aesthetics (www.kertsopoulosaesthetics.blogspot.com ), an internationally acclaimed platform of original inventions in the fields of classical guitar construction, history and tradition. It is engaged to revive older sounds and forms of guitar and strings, as well as tuning practices of early instruments, using totally novel, prototype, original materials and technologies conceived by George Kertsopoulos. Being the official representative of Kertsopoulos Aesthetics worldwide, Smaro Gregoriadou is engaged to "reinvent", ie redefine the sound and technique of the classical guitar, enhancing the instrument's repertory new or old, original or transcribed with a new life and meaning. This yields her personal interpretative, stylistic and aesthetic perspective, a novel proposal for every different historic era or composer. Live in Athens.

This is absolutely insane. You played all of that and I personally didn't detect the slightest fault in all of that playing! Yes, I much prefer this transcription of the original to Giuliani's original variations. I was able to locate a decent transcription but love this one

As I’ve said the performance is outstanding and so please accept my apologies if my comment may have sounded rude. To my ears the first measures sounded a bit out of tune as if the instrument was not perfectly tuned. But as I’ve said in the premise of my previous comment maybe it is just me or maybe i am becoming deaf :) i am not here to criticize just to “find a fault” but if possibile to learn something :)

Sometimes, in the beginning of the video for many different technical reasons, just naming a few: 1) computer lack of full performance 2) video driver need of updating 3) youtube lack of communication of data 4) internet connection problems etc., we have a phenomenon of out of tune similar to a vinilium record playing in less/or more than 33 rounds per minute. As soon as the video passes a few seconds of playing things become better in synchronization of all the above coefficients involved in producing the playing of the video in your device. This might be the reason you have heard an out of tune first measures, because if you heard this, then I absolutely believe what you say. But it is not in the video itself or in the performer's guitar intonation, because if the guitar was out of tune in the first measures it would continue to be out of tune in all the rest of the performance of the work. If a guitar is out of tune at the beginning of a live performance, there is no way it will correct itself after the beginning and sound in tune right afterwards for all the rest of the performance. Hello Rodney, thank you for your comment. Both Handel and Haendel (as spelling of the name) have been used for the composer. Since he resided in England the English idiom wanted him to use the spelling "Handel", however the Haendel corresponds to the Bavaric origin of the composer. However, whichever the case, historically and also, at present times, both spellings have been used so, one can use either one and it would be fine and correct. Cheers.

It's not only 4 semitones higher but it sounds quite out of tune to my ears. (Or bad recording)
A bad recording cannot make any instrument sound out of tune. It will make many bad results but never place out of tune the recorded sound. The guitar is in tune and it would be wise if you checked your playback equipment. Playback equipment that cannot produce with success the higher frequencies can make this happen. So, the guitar is not out of tune, you can be sure about that and the recording is good, not bad. Wise to check your own playback equipment. Cheers!
@@gkertsopoulos Maybe you're right I'm listening through my laptop and a cheap headset but why aren't other clips on other channels out of tune then?
@@hhgygy Other clips you are listening to are not in such high frequencies. Higher frequencies need very good playback equipment to have successful reproduction. I have professional recording and playback equipment that reproduce with exactness on the monitor speakers and monitor headphones that I use. A laptop with a cheap headset can only reproduce bass (low) and middle frequencies with some success, but when it comes to the higher frequencies reproduction the playback problems really come out. The higher frequencies my friend is a matter of HIGH Fidelity in all aspects of reproduction. That is why the mass has accepted and feels comfortable with tha bass (low) and middle frequencies, contrary to the 15th to the 18th century musicians that insisted in the high frequencies as the top quality range that expressed musical information.
