    Great job, do you realize how blessed you are that those exhaust manifold bolts came out without ringing off? The paint is not going to stay on that exhaust manifold no matter what paint you use. I've been building engines for 40+ years, and have yet to come across a paint that will resist the heat of a stock manifold. The exhaust flap is fine that way because you don't run it at high speeds so it won't affect your compression. Yes you're right we always run into that one bolt that just won't come off. Great job. And thanks for sharing your video with us, I truly enjoy them.

    Just a suggestion, but always try to use some flat washers and

    I've got a Ford 601 Workmaster. When I converted to 12 volt, OReilly auto parts was able able to hook me me up with a 12 volt motorcycle bulb that fit the stock housings. They were 35 watt bulbs made by Sylvania. It was a simple conversion job - take off the retainer rim, and change out the connector from the old U-style prong to a female blade style connector that fits over the terminal. I also did a rewire job on the headlights at the same time as the wiring harness going to the headlights had been spliced and fixed about six different times.

    Love it!! When all else fails...break out the saws all!! Only thing I don't understand is why they put the exhaust straight up like that. I have a 1958 Ford 861 and the exhaust is routed down and under that tractor and exits just behind the rear axle. Even with that setup, I come in the house smelling of exhaust fumes after brush hogging the field, I can't imagine having those fumes right in your face for that long.

    • @billfischer6464
      @billfischer6464 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I've known a few farmers that route the exhaust vertical I stead of down low on tractors like yours. They are concerned with the heat starting fires when they were doing hay. Just a thought and observation.

    Hey really glad I found your video. I just got a diesel Ford 2600 and bush hogged a few hours today with it today. Now it is 1am and I can't sleep because I have a splitting headache! My tractor doesn't have a clamp on the muffler, so you can just pick the muffler up off the manifold. I'm going to try getting a clamp and checking for any other exhaust leaks. Man, those fumes really messed me up! Never had such a bad headache in my life. Hopefully that helps because I'm hesitant to get on the tractor again after this experience.

    Leave your rain cap flap towards you, like the old one. When the tractor is running the rain cap flap will raise much higher and will easily catch a limb and rip the rain cap flap or break it or even bend the muffler. Its turn facing you so if a limb hits it it pushes it down and goes over the flap vs grabbing the flap

    This is a fantastic video and tutorial. I just got a 1970 3 cyl gas Ford 2000 and this has been extremely helpful. And your advice about not messing with too many things at one time is sage advice. I’ve been lost in replacing a muffler and manifold for a week. One question: the main manifold bolt came out so easily. Mine has a square head bolt. What socket did you use to remove it? Mines a bit rounded and looks like it’s going to be a struggle to get out. Thanks!

  • @allanarndt3047
    @allanarndt3047 ปีที่แล้ว

    Man U got lucky! I just bought a 4000 with a cracked manifold & it took me four days to get it off! I soaked the bolts every day for a week before even trying to remove it. I finally had to cut thru the manifold & long bolt,even with it cut totally in half an inch from the head that bolt was rust welded to the manifold & others were rounded from someone trying to “fix it” a torch took those heads off. I see u replaced the original manifold,why? I bought two manifolds from different suppliers both fit like your replacement that would not match the head or gasket ports,I finally got one that was close enough to where I split the gasket in between the ports so I could get the final port to line up enough to seal! If u still have the original I would buy it from you? My original manifold fit the ports & gasket perfectly but with a crack in it made it useless! Thanks for the video!

      A good 4000 is a strong reliable tractor...engine rebuild kits are cheap also. My grandpa's 3410 and 3610 uprated to a 4000 series motor are tough as nails.... when something does go wrong on them it's typically something you can fix or have someone in the nearby city fix (if it were something serious like an injector pump). I've swapped an injector pump once and it wasn't terrible.

    2 little tips. Rust-oleum makes 2000 degree F header paint (available at auto part stores). I have seen a glass pack muffler on an old tractor and it took harsh tones out the exhaust note while being pretty quiet. Too late now but maybe somebody looking at an exhaust upgrade might look into it.

Old tractor, yes, but they are very reliable, both the "thousand series" with the 3 cylinder engines and also the earlier 4 cylinder models. For old, very affordable hp, there is still excellent parts availability and the tractors are easy to maintain, easy to repair unlike the newer tractors. One exception might be the Select O Speed. I have four Fords here which have served me well for years... 4400, 3400, 2600 and an early 2N. No fancy bells and whistles but they always work and get the job done.

    The exhaust manifold is cast poorly. That is why it doe not match the gasket.
    There is supposed to be another muffler clamp where the extension pipe meets the exhaust manifold. Not real critical.

      I thought so too but didn't see anything in the parts list on Yesterday's tractors. I will double check that and grab one, I don't want that bouncing around in there and getting loose

    Exhaust cap pointing to the left or back and to the left. Straight forward still sends half the exhaust in your face, just like straight back, Full disclosure: best intentions with this comment, but zero experience. Thanks for the vids.

    Ok, let me be the first to say... "HEY, your headlights don't match".
    Nice job in all, but before it gets all rusty, I would seriously think about removing the exhaust tree at the friction fitting and removing those manifold bolts and using some antiseize on them. You or the next owner will thank you. Yes, unless gasoline is completely outlawed, there will be a next owner... someday. Cheers

    If the exhaust fumes really bother you that much, you should have run it downward, instead. Figure out a way.

      The exhaust doesn't bother me at all when it is coming out of the top of the muffler and not leaking all out under the hood and in my face:)

    Doesn't matter 1200 degrees is going to rust any exhaust

    That paint is just so it doesn't rust while it's sitting on the shelf and during shipping. It'll burn off in no time. Hard to keep any paint on any exhaust components. .

    Don’t put them on the loader Frame they are useless there my father and I moved ours up an the top they work really well there and the power steering as you call it which is power assist is a little known issue on those tractors and is always failing even if you fix it

      They are typically on the outside at the top... always looked weird for me to see them elsewhere on those tractors.

    Check out farmtractorrepair.com/ for help keeping your tractor working. I believe they're MI based as well. They have parts and video tutorials available to help you.
