Kayla ,have u ever considered some storage cabinets with doors at the side of your fireplace .?that way u can store some of the toys in there and it won’t be seen …but u will be able to do mini rotation …

When we do clean up time with our toddler, we talk about first as, it's time to clean up, we need to put everything away so you can find them in them in the morning. And then when we get almost inevitable resistance on that idea, we follow it up with your toys are tired! They need to go to sleep so they can play with you tomorrow! Let's put them to bed!
And about half the time that helps. Our kid actually does really well cleaning up about 80% of the time, ONCE HE GETS STARTED. So getting him to start can be a challenge, but once we do as long as we oversee it and give verbal directions and point at what's next, he gets through it really quickly. And we have a blanket we put over his toys once they're all put away so it's not a visual distraction anymore. And we call that tucking them in.
And my mom was over during clean up once and reminded me that's how they did it with us when we were little. I didn't remember that at ALL until she said it. Guess somethings just really stick in the subconscious.
We so rotations and try to swap out similar categories too. And we recently came to the same conclusion you guys did about limiting how many small piece toy sets are out at one time. Reconfigured the toy groups, it's gone way better ever since.

The play kitchen and all the food drive me crazy! I have seen people put real stackable vegetable racks beside the kitchen for storage. My son likes to remove the current drawers I use and just dump them. You're right that the wooden food is a hit. We love our Melissa's and doug birthday cake.
I love your toy rotation videos, it help me with some ideas on new toys for my baby and what I'd like to see is how, what you do, when you do your basement category organization cleaning. I also would like to see if you could do a more indebt video on the toys for each age groups as your favorite and least favorite. Love love love toy rotations, Kayla! I know the idea may seem so simple, like they’re “just” toys right? But it all falls under intentional parenting and helping our kiddos thrive, strengthening their imagination and creativity, and making sure their toys that they’ve been blessed with are being put to good use! Now I want rotate my girls toys since it’s been a couple weeks! ❤

I try this but struggle so much to keep the toys in the basement organized so I can see what I have. I’d love to see a video of how you end up organizing the toys in the basement. I am wanting to get some shelves too.
What’s worked great for me is shelving in our garage. Then I store the toys in clear bins so I can easily see what’s inside. When storing the toys I keep sets together and group things by categories such as blocks, dolls, cars, play kitchen food…
@@TheMoranFamily I did finally get some shelves in the basement and have some of the stuff displayed on there so I can easily see it. Other stuff is in bins. I like the idea of using clear bins and organizing by type of toy. He has some toy storage bins in his room with all the small toys but I’d like to eliminate some of the clutter of so many small pieces!
I love toy rotation, otherwise it’s way to crazy. We just got that play kit, both my kids love it.
I feel you with the kitchen food, it drives me nuts!!!! Everyday my child dumps out this basket full of play food. I put away his basket and downsized the food so hopefully he will use his cart. My husband and I were joking that tomorrow maybe he will turn over the cart. Nice job on the rotation!
Great job Kayla. Toy rotation is very effective and not so much visual pollution for you and Joe. I’ll be interested to see how the kids use and benefit from the changes. You are using a teacher’s eye when looking at these activities. Good luck. Best wishes from Australia
One thing that will help is having the kids clean up before they go to take baths. We do this every night with my kids and that way I'm not stuck cleaning up a million toys. You guys won't drive yourself crazy every single night and the kids will learn responsibility of cleaning up after themselves.
And I find that once I started having my daughter clean up after herself, she doesn't make as big of a mess anymore. Or if I see her taking something else out, I tell her she has to clean up something else.
Love this! Also my sons name is Jackson too and he just turned 2! And in the video when you said Jackson woke up my son woke up from his nap at the exact same moment! So trippy 🤣

Just some suggestions dear ...a front facing bookshelf for the books would encourage independent reading. I had my books like that and I thought my son stopped liking books. Now he picks them up on his own every single time and sits infront the shelf and reads. It's a montessori front facing shelf.

I've tried a few different methods of toy rotation.. I find the open displayed toys the worst mess wise because no matter what I try the one toy at a time never gets implemented..the best method I have found is a large VERY pretty toy box. I use a Hamptons style bed box which I like the look of...it makes clean up so much quicker as everything just goes back into the toy box and my living room looks like a grown up space...I rotate the toys that are in there frequently.I also have stacks of busy boxes with lids and whenever I need to do something or the toy box toys aren't doing their thing, I pull out a busy box...a typical box will contain smaller toys and things that can be played with, stickers, fave book or two, etc..like I had one out tonight with a little wooden hospital playset, no mess colouring set, 3-4 lego blind bags that haven't been opened, polly pocket playset, a stickers set, bunch of sensory toys from the dollar tree. Every once in a while I redo them, take stuff out etc and they work sooo well.

my grandson's school is on lockdown right now- something written all over one of the bathrooms- police, border patrol, helicoptor all there- kids under their desks, school is over for the day but no one allowed in or out- this is WA...................................

When Your kids are very good behaviour all the time and always taking good care of their things, keeping their rooms very clean, loving their favorite things and want to make nice childhood collections of their things: books, clothes, toys, video games, clothes, DVDs and etc, then donataing is very wrong thing to do. If You have few space then storage boxes and shelves will help You out and Your kids will be very happy and thankful then, if they can keep their favourite things. Childhood things are very valuable and it is very sad, if they won’t see them anymore in their life. Every child should have the right to keep their things, if they can take good care of them all the time!!!
