He doesn't even let her finish her sentences. This interview belongs to the person who understands what it is this incredible woman has gone through. Waris I am sorry for this man wasting your time. I am sure with her strength that she is living her life and forgot she even did an interview with the horrid journalist.
I read her books Desert Flower and Desert Dawn in my late teens and I have to say that these books have changed my view about life. There are so many parts that I like and one of the lines is when she said about people in the west complaining about little things such as headache abd she said if they really want to know pain, she can show what pain really is. I also love that she has such a survival spirit; when she had to suckle from a cow and got whipped by the owner for it. The part where a male lion looked at her dying and weakened body and didn't even try to end her life. When she had to hit a man with a rock on the head whom she thought was going to rape whilst giving her a ride (guess he didn't mean for it to be free). The part when she returned to meet her parents, how she paid for her father's debt and her blind father cried about it, how she forgave him and how her mother reminded her to be humble. She gave her mother a mirror as she thought that she'd like it - nope, she was shocked to see her changed face and threw/dropped the mirror saying "you all have sucked the life out of me". How her father married a younger woman and how they felt betrayed about it, etc. The 2 books are great autobiography and most of all, they taught me to be resilient and to have a perspective on being a good human in life. She may have obtained fame at some point but it's never about that at all. Resilience, resilience and resilience. Reviresco.
Wat een bekrompen interwieuw, deze man is ech zielig. Laat deze vrouw haar verhaal vertellen. Wat een geduld Waris, Chapeau! Ze is authentiek. Een voorbeeld voor velen. Bedankt!
I am so proud of her for being so strong willed and fighting and speaking out to help innocent little girls to stop this horrible painful removal of part of the body just so sad we must all speak out and put a stop of this worldwide!
❤️❤️❤️❤️ never forget your mental and emotional strength, you survived a traumatising ordeal. To recover from that is one thing, but you are even advocating for other people. Though I am just a stranger in the internet, your courage and strength shines through! Wishing you all the best on your journey
Her English is really impressive ... considering she had no formal education and grew up as a nomad ...one has to really commend on her progress she made and the difference she made as a model and a UN ambassador.....
I read the novel many years ago, it is sad and inspiring too, and I am tearful reading it. Glad that now it's made into a movie. Thank you for sharing. 🤩😇
One of the great and wonderful woman in the world. I love and respect you. I read your book today. Madam, I wish you all the best! (From all of Sri Lankans.)
this man is horrible and trash..he doesent know what he is doing..very rude and ignorent very little talant,,,but waris was patiant and supper talanted love her so much
OMG. You are so right. These fake feminist in the US would go running for the nearest man to save them. They just talk the talk. They'd NEVER walk her walk.
He is such a b****, I fell like he lacked respect for her opinion and kept leading her responses in his own direction, so impatient, rude and subjective in his questions. Such a smart woman. *shakes head and storms out*
All BBC people are crass and rude. It seems to be a British thing. They have this regal pompous attitude no matter how poor or ugly they may be, they don't realize it. so sad and annoying.

La BBC semble acheter les objectifs des caméras au marché aux puces,, engage un journaliste au comportement agressif. Heureusement que Mme. Dirie est une personne qui ne se laisse pas impressionner.
BBC Hardtalk is like that, abrupt. That's why it's called hard talk, they have to come across as hard and having the upper hand over the guest. I love Waris and have read her fascinating books but she does seem a little contradictory. In her books she talks of buying her mother a house, which only costs $2k in Somalia, her poor overworked mother with a hard life, but it appears she never did buy her a house or help her financially. Plus on top of that she states in her books she owns few possessions and will always live like that, so she must have saved a lot of money. I notice she bristles when he brings up her earnings and seems to want to deny earning millions. Maybe she fears being kidnapped or having relatives in Somalia held for ransom, if certain people realise the type of money she was earning.
she does not represent the Somalis that they represent herselves, and sold her honor and the consequence of the matter at a very cheap price, God guide and fix her

He is very rude by interrupting her every moment. She is a brilliant woman.
He is so rude....While she's so calm and nice really proud of her and how she tolerated this man
Yes but her attitude wasn’t very good too.
I wonder if they had some prior communication and she felt the way she had to defend herself
I read the book in one day! Phenomenal story and women
Same
I too
Phenomenal woman! Waris Dirie is an inspirational role model! She really is a desert flower!

I don't really know why he keeps asking her questions that he should ask his government. She is soooo patient.

I owe her a debt of gratitude for exposing me to the atrocity of FGM through her book when I was only 13 years old.
I do really admire her and I hope someday to have the pleasure of meeting her
Such an important and culturally significant exchange with such a brutish inelegant journalist. Thanks BBC & British media.
this man is horrible and trash..he doesent know what he is doing..very rude and ignorent very little talant,,,but waris was patiant and supper talanted love her so much
@Fatima Aziz Now THAT makes no sense. You are uneducated and jealous. Go back to eating dirt.
Thank you Waris ! You are great !
The interviewer is annoying! Just let her talk! He keeps cutting her off!
I just watched the movie desert flower,so sad to all the little girls who gone through FGM😢

What an awful interviewer. He comes over as cold and pushy. He wasn't made for interviewing people like Waris; she deserved better.

He is such a b****, I fell like he lacked respect for her opinion and kept leading her responses in his own direction, so impatient, rude and subjective in his questions. Such a smart woman. *shakes head and storms out*
@Fatima Aziz he's*
Worst interviewer ever, he is just a question machine! He thinks his words are more important than her story.
He's definitely a twit. I have a feeling she had to restrain herself from hauling off and smacking him across the chops.
Dude what's that sentence "i like million, i want it to be millions, I'm sure it was" like what does he think he is??
Terrible Interviewer, he's a terrible listener, he's not in tune with her at all......
She shines none the less !
@Fatima Aziz you are cobra
This guy is either playing the devils advocate or he is very rude upfront dismissing her pain and experience as if she is a liar!
Somalia not desert
I now her i sm friends with her son lion
what's with this guy!!!! omg!!!!

Exactly, he has no idea what she is talking about!
