Thanks for this review! I'm getting ready for 8th grade right now so this was perfect timing for me! Can't wait to see more about the literature that you love.

I'd love a comparison between IEW and writing and rhetoric. I'm stuck deciding between these two

I would be interested in knowing your thoughts about Mystery of History and Biblioplan. My kids do CC Challenge starting 7th grade but in 9th grade I want them to start a history curriculum that works through world history on a four year rotation (so they can do one volume each year of highschool). I am trying to decide between MOH and Biblioplan. I know MOH has been around a while & I had always thought that would be my pick for highschool, but now I am seeing so much positive about Biblioplan.
I use Story of the World with my littles (K-6th) and Masterbooks The World's Story vol 1-3 for middle school (basically as a read aloud or they read it to themselves).

My kids have done 3 years of biblioplan. They are not in love w it. In fact, I would be interested in hearing the positives on biblioplan

@@faithfullyinfertile ok. I’m trying to decide if we go ahead and finish the last biblioplan book or not. I think they are just over it.

It’s funny that you asked this question because this weekend I flipped through both of those curriculums. I like mystery of history better, mostly because of the way it is laid out. The pictures look nicer and it doesn’t seem to have too much extra work involved. To me Bibio plan had stuff that I know that I would never use. And I didn’t really like the pictures.

How did you know which level of Writing and Rhetoric to use with your 8th grader? Did you just go by topic or grade level?
Also, we used Dianne Craft’s Right Brain Training Writing program techniques. I assign points to my child’s writing. For example, they get points for vocabulary usage, punctuation, capitalization and I add it IEW techniques. My boys’ writing has improved so much and it’s effortlessly on my part. One of their papers were two pages formatted correctly and recieved 250 points 😊. Writing has become their favorite subject this year.

I did grade level and then adjusted according to what I thought his ability was.

I’m shocked you’re done with TruthQuest. I know it was your favorite for years.

Well we’ve done it all and there are more options out there. I will say Mystery of History is very similar though and I really like its style.
