Why not make them have a practical purpose instead of going straight for superficial emotional crap? I feel mocked looking at those more than anything else. It could be picking up trash or even providing surveillance but no we need an emotional time robot instead?
Nobody is replacing "life" with a machine. It's a rolling furbie ffs and I don't recall people throwing away pets for them. Besides this is a toy and animals are not. Not everybody can afford to properly take care of a pet and they shouldn't be shamed into trying when all it does is hurt the animal in the long run. You can't starve or abandon a robot.
I love robots but when I see all these silly commands people put actual time and effort into creating I can't help but feel depressed. That's why humans don't advance, they waste all their time with superficial BS, but fortunately AI is going to change that now. I guess to summarize my point: Humans should have spent less time creating silly, superficial things they think would sell well and more time actually working on making AI a reality that's flexible enough to come up with these things on its own, like chatGPT now.
Hopefully this little one will keep being supported by the manufacturers unlike previous robot-type companions.
