Most people don’t know what to listen for… check out the harshness of the s sounds on the AT. The better mics will fit into a mix with less wrestling. You can make them both work in many cases, but the Lewitt will sound better once you start adding things like parallel compression.
The at2020 is a bit harsh at the top (a big bit lol), the other mic is smoother, but with the compression of youtube and people who dont have ears, there is no difference, buy the mic that you can afford and master it
The cheap mic sounds a bit auto-tuned, perhaps because it is lacking the resolution of the expensive one. Though as everyone noted, it's very subtle (but still can be heard on the phone speaker)
I was in a forum once and a guy posted an at3035 against a nueman u87. Everyone thought the 3035 was the u87 because he just eq'd the high frequency slightly.. many mic enthusiasts were upset but goes to show you don't need the most expensive mic to get great results
The thing is, whatever the shortcomings of the $100 mic are. You can easily fix em with the smallest amount of processing to make it sound as good, or even better.
That’s just not true. You might be able to mimic the tonality of a U87 but you can’t make a 100$ mic have a balanced frequency response or have clarity which 100$ mic just won’t possess.
@@arshadmohamed6330Actually he is wrong. Not because you can make up for quality witn eq, but because quality of a mic is not always proportional to its price. My 250$ Oktava is as good as most 1000$ mics out there. And there are many trash 1000$ mics.
More detail for sure where the 100$ mic sounds flat in comparison.. it’s more of a rich feeling that you get from quality mics then inexpensive mics. Would recommend for high tier studio production vs TH-cam.

Here’s a tip that will save you thousands of dollars and a lot of time trying to chase the rainbow while buying the latest and greatest and more and more expensive equipment. Let go of it. It’s all about the performance. Not the equipment. What’s the best mic? It’s the one you use. Keep making music and share it with the world! :)
All i mic is, is a oiece of thin metal, its digital now but it was the bits and how its processed that makes it. You could make a 5000$ mic in a week with no knowledge. They just dont want you to figure it out. Or just call the factory in china act like a company looking for a sample, and there you go
This is not a comparison between mics, is just to show how good your are at mixing vocals, don't fool people., and show the setting you used for every track.
A big reason people invest in the more expensive mics are because they tend to be made with higher quality parts and have longevity On top of the fact you can easily get a really good sound on the recording and not have to process as much after the fact. It makes the workflow quicker and for recording engineers time is money
I think that buried in a mix the difference in detail and harmonics is gonna be absolutely nothing, plus the At2020 is one of the best bang for your buck mics out there.
Heres the kicker...Whoever is listening could not give a rat's ass if it was the 100 dollars one, if the song is good. They will also assume what they are listening to, is how it should sound. Sorry, but its a fact.
there are $300 mic that you should have - the $100 one is cheap sounding and crackly.. but you do not need a $1000 mic unless you are a pro artist and you have millions of listeners. Billie Eilish had a hit with the AT 2020.
With THAT MUCH post processing, it's very difficult to judged. Alot of vocalist aren't goinf to be drenching their tracks in this much reverb so this does very little to clue them into how these mics perform on a baseline.
Get the $100 mic and spend the other $900 on actual acoustic treatment. Not foam. Nobody likes to hear it but the laws of physics don't care how expensive your microphone is.
