    Surely, another idea could be a hot air balloon which could be heated on demand using a gas canister activated by remote control. The balloon could have various cameras mounted on it and could have a long tether line, with a winch attached to the rover, allowing it to drift off a certain distance, then be reeled in again back to base and re-used.

      Counterweight

    • @jcozine

    Is there much advantage to this helicopter if it can only fly such short distances? What about having a long telescopic pole attached to the rover which can be extended high with a camera on the end? Surely, another idea would be a blimp which inflates with a canister of helium on command and then can float around, with a camera attached. The blimp could then be powered with electric fans to move forward, backward left, right.

      The thing with this helicopter is not how useful it can be in regards of exploration right now, but just as a concept and as a test bed for future, more advanced aircraft.

    Why does the model spin the rotors in reverse half the time?

    • @SeekerNJWC
      @SeekerNJWC 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I don't think it does. The two blades spin in opposite directions. This obviates the need for a tail rotor as on a helicopter.
      *: I edited my original post where I said that the blades are at 90 degrees to each other - since they're spinning in opposite directions there relative positions will be constantly changing - "my bad".

    • @battery_wattage
      @battery_wattage 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@SeekerNJWC I’m into rc planes. The blades at 0:21 are spinning backwards on the model.

    • @SeekerNJWC
      @SeekerNJWC 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@battery_wattage At 0:21 the top rotor A is spinning clockwise and the bottom rotor C is spinning counter-clockwise. Other models in the video have the rotation of the top and bottom blades spinning in reverse. Like I said - the rotors spin in opposite directions.

    • @battery_wattage
      @battery_wattage 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@SeekerNJWC my point is not why they spin in opposite directions. I already understand that. My point is why would they show the blades spinning in the wrong directions where the blades would provide downforce instead of lift. The average person who is not understanding of how flying machines work would get the wrong idea of how lift works.
