    During the latest power outage which lasted days, I used my Ioniq 5 car to pull 1800w 120v and charge back up the DPU. We don't have solar on the house. I also used a small generator to charge at 1800w 120v, but didn't do that for long to conserve gas.

      Perfect. That's what I want to do as well.

      I'm a little confused with bonding neutrals and utilizing the V2L on EV's into the DPU (and I suppose using generators with boneded neutrals).
      If I understand things correctly you will then have 2 bonding points (the V2L at the car is always bonded) and your house will be bonded. I think this is against code.
      Can anyone chime in on this.

I have 2 older 5000 watt generators but understood I could not recharge the DPU unless it was pure sine wave so I ordered a Erayak 4500 trifuel to recharge during day like you. Can I recharge with the old "dirty" power with 240 volt or will it hurt my DPU ? Thank you for your advice

    I have had the Ultra from the beginning months ago when it was first available and I was always able to charge with 120 volts (you had to select Fast) and output 240 volts. I would use the 120 volt output available from my Hyundai Ioniq5 to the Ultra and could run my dryer using 240 volt output at 6kw at the same time. I hate to say it but you are many months behind. The Ecoholics documentation explains this.

      @@TheKelleysReviews If I remember correctly, you have a lock out plate to switch your panel from mains to backup? so your not able to test it plugged into mains while running transfer/backup circuits? I have one of those reliance transfer switches that breaks out 10 circuits from mains. SO I could plug it into a circuit that's not in the breakout transfer switch while running the 10 circuits. My bluetti is able to do this, but I'm trying to figure out if this thing will give me troubles in the same setup.

      I’m also interested in this. I don’t have solar or a generator but would like to install a power station and transfer switch for backup. In addition to the backup power use case, I’m interested in peak shaving. My thoughts are to have critical loads always pulling power from the power station (i.e., leave the transfer switch set to generator 24/7) while leaving the power station connected to the grid via a non-backed up circuit so it can recharge during off-peak hours. Do you know if this is possible?

  • @unijabnx2000

    Ive never had a problem charging from 120v using the C19 port and outputting 240v, but the C19 port will also accept 240v but thats when they said AC inverter output will not work. Ive heard from several places that using the gen cord to charge from 240v using the power in/out port would allow the AC inverter output to keep working, but imo that cord should be included not sold separately. I know theres always been complications on charging b/c of the floating neutral if trying to charge from grid and power your panel.. but that shouldnt be an issue if using a gas generator tho.

    • @jbradfor4
      @jbradfor4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Every time I charge from 120v using the C19 port and outputting 240v, AND the 240V output is connected to the transfer switch (even if all the switches are set to grid), the GFCI on the 120V outlet trips. I've heard others have this issue as well. This is true whether the 120V is coming from the grid or from my generator.

    • @unijabnx2000
      @unijabnx2000 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@jbradfor4 ah.. ive heard about that. Thats a ground loop. You need an isolation transformer or something else so theres no ground loop.

  • @MrSkunks
    @MrSkunks หลายเดือนก่อน

    Great test, this is exactly how it should work. This allows a small 120v generator run a large central air. While it was outputting 2200 watts running the AC and charging at 1800, the duty cycle is probably 30%. So every hour, you may only need 600-700 watts which the 1800 input would easily cover. Very efficient hybrid system.
    I would like to see the test one more time though. In the first scenario, you had the output below 1800 watts, plugged in the 120v generator, got it to speed, and then turned on the AC. Your second attempt, where it seems to work, the AC is already running. I wonder if the initial surge current in your first test is what kicked the generator off as the EcoFlow doesn’t react quick enough in removing pass through.

    • @TheKelleysReviews
      @TheKelleysReviews  หลายเดือนก่อน

      You've got a valid point on the surge. But it's good to know how it will work both ways because in the real world people are going to be kicking on generators with all kinds of loads going.

  • @Jasonoid
    @Jasonoid หลายเดือนก่อน +2

    Thanks for the testing! Nice work. Excellent to see that with this new feature it doesn't try to both run the current load on the power station AND charge at 1800w. Before it would try to do full passthrough charging and charge the battery at the same time which would always trip the generator from being overloaded.

    • @TheKelleysReviews
      @TheKelleysReviews  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Agreed, that was frustrating.

    • @1125-CD
      @1125-CD หลายเดือนก่อน

      @Jasonoid I am confused on this. I thought the whole point of this video was to show that you can power the house with the delta pro ultra and when the batteries start to get low you can plug your gas generator into the Ultra batteries and charge the batteries back to the max capacity while the batteries are still powering your panel and top them off, and later in the day shut off the gas generator and let the batteries continue to power the panel over night in silence. All while not having to keep unplugging the batteries just so you can charge them with the gas generator.

  • @captmichel8035
    @captmichel8035 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Thanks nice demonstration!
    One very important thing to mention
    Since you have many users this would be a good information to let them know.
    Do not attempt to do what you did if the DPU is connected to SHP.
    I have been trying to get some ways to connect the DPU and make it automatic so the generator starts when batteries are low and so far EF did not come up with an option.
    I mentioned that I wanted to do what you did and the tech told me that a customer did that and fried the DPU and not to attempt!
    Hopefully they will soon
    Because it’s disappointing not to have an auto option like the other units do.
    Thanks for your great video.

    • @TheKelleysReviews
      @TheKelleysReviews  หลายเดือนก่อน

      I don't see how that's an issue unless you mistakenly plug the Ultra into a wall outlet that the SHP is already providing power to. The other possible issue is having two Ultras connected to a SHP. That would probably create a potential issue like it did when Delta Pros are connected together.

      The smart home panel allows for generator inlet so I would think this should work if you connect the generator to the panel directly.

    • @captmichel8035
      @captmichel8035 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes with generator direct it works but will not do it automatically you need to manually start the generator and flip the breaker on the SHP.
      The other way I’m trying w/o SHP
      Is having a sub panel aside using only the 30amp outlet from SHP
      And when I don’t have enough sun to be able to connect the SHP on an outlet and charge when the battery reach 20% from the grid and some how it’s not operating. Let say I have a 500w load and turn on the outlet I should have 1800w in 500w out but instead it indicates way more load when doing so. From 500w load to 2400 load and 1800w in
      A bit confusing read out.
      I’m trying to have a way that to charge with the grid

      @TheKelleysReviews; Oh yeah! Hey brother I almost forgot to tell you this, I was performing some testing today and reminded myself as I revisited your video here.
      I was chatting with "help & support" around the time I posted my previous comment/question above and while talking to ecoflow chat, the person I was speaking to denied the claim 'we could input while outputting.' Well guess what,,,, I dropped this link to your video into the chat and informed "her" she was wrong,, that yes, the ultra could handle both.
      I kid you not; she (chat support) took your video link to the ACTUAL technicians and after sharing it with them she came back and CORRECTED her comment that stated "I couldn't use the output while charging under 240 volt."
      Thought I would share that information with ya as your video somewhat saved the day and kept me from having to argue with a; not so well trained support person.
      What gets me about these companies is, If you go look at said "help files" within the app itself right now it still clearly states you CANNOT do this. I do wish they would have their editors update the help information manuals as they make changes, but it seems to me no companies ever see fit to invest the little time it takes to do so.
      Anyhow, just another pat on the back to your video I wanted to share with you. I'd be pretty proud knowing the ecoflow technicians were asked to view your video and actually did.
      Hope all is well and you had a great x-mas and new years!

      Yeah i was on 5.0.0.25 and it kept saying up to date... yet when i got a 2nd inverter, it was stuck on 0.1.0.0 and nothing newer was found. I had to contact support and give them the serials before they would allow me to update and get to 5.0.0.49

      Absolutely, the SG4000 generator is designed for that exact purpose. I am testing one now and will have a video out in a couple of weeks on our main channel "The Kelley's Country Life". It's a smart generator that can start automatically and communicates with the DP3.

    I received my DPU in August. I was, at that time, able to charge with 120volts, (1800 watts), and out put over 3200 watts with out issue. I was informed by ECOFLOW, that 240 charging would not permit me to out put to a device, 110 or my 240 plug that was connected to my electrical box (safely of course). So a bit confused here. What firmware level is your DPU?

      SHP2 uses the same output port I believe, so it will block you from using the bigger generator connection. In theory it should still work using the 120v wall cable. I do not have the SHP2 installed to test for compatability.

      @@TheKelleysReviews I have just tested charging via the 1800W AC port in my setup, and it doesn't work :(
      I have 2 DPUs connected to SHP2 and have lamented the fact that I can't trickle charge them from my F150 Lightning in the event of an outage to extend the lifetime of my batteries. The only option open to me is to connect a generator inlet port to the SHP2 and charge it that way. Unfortunately the Lightning has a bonded neutral so also has complications.

    So this is a bit weird. In other comments you mention that you upgraded to firmware 5.0.0.25 to get this work. However, I got this working as well, but the app says I'm still on firmware 0.1.0.0. [And 2.0.2.4 for Wi-Fi.] The app also says I'm up-to-date. Anyone else stuck on old firmware? Given that I just got it and it's working, I wonder if the firmware is newer but it's a reporting issue?

    I don't suppose this would work with the 50 Amp hub would it? I have 2 separate DPU stacks connected to the 50amp hub, and an AC cable running to each. It's rough though, because I've had to turn off the hub anytime I want them to take a charge. Tried turning on the Fast charge on my end and am not seeing any input....just wondering if I could chalk that up to the poor internet connectivity they have where they are :/

    • @TheKelleysReviews
      @TheKelleysReviews  หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      The hub uses the input/output port, so sadly that rules out using the larger 30 amp charging cord. However I am not sure if you can use the 120v wall plug WHILE two are connected together. I know when I had two Delta Pro units I could not charge while they were connected together. Something about a nuetral or ground loop situation occurs. I'd suggest you reach out to EcoFlows tech department for that question. Make sure you have updated the phone app, the Ultras Wifi update is current AND the firmware for the ultra itself. This did not work for me until I discovered there was two firmware updates in my phone app for the Ultra.

      I heard there would be issues trying to run a subpanel in your house and charging from grid (b/c of floating neutral ) Which is why I am trying to get more solar panels... but another option is to get an isolation transformer or a EG4 chargeverter to input into the DC input ports. I have a 50A hub but havent finishing wiring my generator inlet yet. So i havent been able to test it out. But also wanted to wait for the solar panels i ordered to get here first.

    The low cost high frequency, transformerless inverter design that's used in these battery generator units can not only damage, your appliances or EV, it can set your appliances or EV on fire. The reason for this is that these units don't have an output transformer to provide galvanic isolation between its DC boost stage and its AC output. So during a catastrophic failure of its H-Bridge circuit, it can pass high amperage DC current straight through to you appliances or onboard EV charger, causing damage. This is why no reputable American inverter manufacturer, uses high frequency, transformerless inverter tech.
