    Rant and a Ramble!
A journalist got in touch with me about my film in Horden and then suddenly articles started appearing all over the place quoting me and detailing my video and the town.
I found it interesting/rather funny as I started noticing I was being misquoted quite a lot. The mainstream news sure works in strange ways.
On todays Rant and Ramble, I talk about how all of this came about, and also go on to talk about the news in general.
It appears that with my cheap house films, I have stumbled across a topic which was not touched upon, yet resonates deeply. The majority of people in the UK either don't know or didn't know that places like Horden exist. I was included in that category. Seeing street upon street of abandoned and derelict houses, at the same time being told by the main stream media that we have a housing shortage in the country, just seems crazy.
I also visit the tiny abandoned house I saw in winter, I am hoping to do more on this place in the future should some plans come to fruition.
    Thanks for watching, always appreciated

I love how you raise awareness of turd towns. The poverty in a first world country is shocking! I grew up in the Lakes ( escaped from Blackpool aged 3) in Keswick and even though it looks posh it hasn't got any facilities for local young people or families! We need to shout out about rich places that really aren't supporting local people at all. Death of the swimming pool, death of the youth club. Tory cuts! I work in early years so i have seen a lot of services cut since coming into this profession in 2004. I know things change over time but its like death of a community to be honest. Keep doing what your doing 🎉

Funnily enough grew up not far from there, before moving further south after Uni. Personally I think the place has a lot more going for it than Peterlee and with the reopening of the railway station for employment at Newcastle, Sunderland or Teesside its not the worst.
Even if someone just needed a house these days to stop paying a year or two's rent to save up for something else it would be a stop gap. That £5k might cost another £20k on a shoe string fixup, but plenty of people are paying 000's to live in damp ridden flats....

David, you’re a journalist, through and through. You have a rare inquisitiveness, perhaps inherited from the same attitudes your parents have.
Who, what, when, why…..I missed one.
Your dry stone wall videos prompted me to learn a tiny bit more than I knew before & within days, I passed that on to my oldest grandson, who is four. He asked questions about EVERYTHING and he does internalise what he learns. He surprises his parents and his grandparents with statements, links and further questions a few weeks later. He’s a deep thinker, perhaps taking after me (I’m a scientist and I was of that ilk before I had any training).
Keep your freshness, your lack of cynicism, your questioning, your outward bound viewpoint.
By the way, your Stoodley monument video. Did you see the weird skies?? I shared some stills with a pilot friend. For some reason, he doesn’t want to chat to me about this. I think he’s concerned that I’ll inadvertently trap him. I’m not on his case. I’ve got eyes and a memory.

Great to see something coming from it! One subject that never comes up in any news piece about mining villages or mining areas is that they were funded/subsidised by the company that mined them, right up to the present with quarries paying into the local councils. It's a subject that really needs to be addressed as it feeds into why there is a north/south divide in government funding. The government didn't need to fund areas that had companies subsidising them and now feel resentment for why money now needs to be redistributed to those areas.

@@wanderingturnip For the area around Horden you only have to look to Peterlee, once a saviour of the mining people as Peter Lee (the person); where they tried to close the villages and channel people into larger towns to better look after "people". At one time the priority of local councils was to close the mining villages as they cost too much to look after. In the 80-90-00's period it was normal to see Council provided services demolished, banks closed, facilities removed. People refused to leave the villages to live in a new town. Now the council have accepted that the proto villages installed 100+ years ago are here to stay. More or less...

Thank for this. It means a lot when I hear from people who enjoy all the different aspects to my channel. That keeps me wanting to find new stuff to be inspired by. I find TH-cam can push certain videos more than others, but often the nicest comments come from some which I never expected to do well.
      So massive thanks 😀😀

Hopefully this press will finally create some change in Hidden. The area needs help and support, the way you highlighted that was respectful.
Please can people now not just see a tag line of cheap property and deprivation. instead see what can be done to improve the place

congrats mate, lets hope them at the top, think up something to do about this problem, cos most towns in the uk are using nice green fields on the outskirts, to build new houses that we don,t need, while houses that we already have are sitting empty & will prob end up getting demolished, its same near me, old terreced houses are sat empty while their building new houses everywhere.

Certainly, the politicians that represent those areas must (I hope) know the conditions. The question now is, how do they see revitalization? Are they even in tune with their represented populations? I suspect the answer is no.

    • @GT380man

I no longer think they have any intention of revitalising anything.
I believe they’ve written us off and they’re moving the wealth out of the country.
      I’m absolutely not joking.
I fear that “the elites” have decided that The West is done & we’re surplus.
If they think so, they can leave it to us.

We constantly hear about a housing crisis here in the UK or how young people can't get on the property ladder because housing is so expensive.
The real truth is that the economy is unequally distributed in terms of quality of jobs and wages that housing problems are highly regional.
There's a lot of northern towns around where I live that had coal mines and other industries close which almost wiped out their entire economy at the time and sent local unemployment from 5% to 70% overnight. These communities never received any compensation and have suffered from a lack of funding ever since leaving them far behind.
An example is my house that is worth around £120k, if I transplanted it where my stepson lives it would be worth £600k.
Where I live we still get a third less government funding per person than London and we come out as just outside the top third of the most deprived communities in the UK.
How does government in London expect communities like us to go net zero in 2030 without the massive investment we need? Heck, we don't even have a comprehensive, reliable bus service in town let alone train services. Everything is left to private companies who won't run unprofitable bus routes. We don't have such as tfl here. Having a personal car is essential if only for getting to work when you work shifts like me. There's no night buses.
When we are literally decades behind the likes of London, how do they expect us to make the huge leap of net zero by 2030? Heck, we need 30 or 40 years, if we got the same money from now, just to catch up to where London is now. There's no way areas like mine can go net zero in the next 50 years at least. We are just so far behind and despite getting levelling up funds, we still get less per person of government funding than London.
This disparity cannot go on forever.
The economy has to be spread out more. Companies if necessary, must be forced to create so many of their jobs in these more deprived areas to bring in more jobs and employment, more wealth, more investment and such to create the ability start the move forward.
This would also spread out demand for housing so housing prices would become more even over the whole country instead of 40 people trying to get one rental flat in likes of London whilst rows of houses sit empty and boarded up in places like Horden.
