I can hear telegrahams voice "how prepared are you" 😂 what a crazy thing to happen, I'm sure the support for this will be unrivalled, best of luck with it all
Good backup plan for large water volume aquarium is an EDPM pond liner, felt, and some 2x4/plywood walls. Easy to store away and easy to setup during an emergency.
Consider that when power is out, bubblers will add heating or cooling to the system. The air may be warm or cold. A battery to keep the return running might be a more appropriate move, and given the ease of the now splash-resistance of EcoFlow River 3, keeping that return running is simple.
It's heartbreaking to see that, so good you were there Salem! Along with battery powered rechargeable air pumps don't forget extra airline and air stones. The air pump is actually backup for my backup generator 😄#CaliKidCorals
On the subject of cord management, I want so badly for manufacturers of aquarium equipment to start putting quick disconnect connections 6 inches off the device. That would make removing devices for cleaning so much easier!
Wow, how totally random! Life strikes at thee, Salem! One wall of my office faces a very close and busy intersection and I fear the same thing. Good so far though. I would say the best way to prepare for that is being a part of a good reefing community. Having friends like Chris, Rob, their families, and everyone else who helped, being willing to drop everything and run to help when seconds count, is priceless. Thanks all for the hard work and saving the studio! #Calikidcorals
That's intense! I have never had a car crash into my tank but I have had my ato get stuck on and overflow my sump. It dropped my salinity wayyyy low. Luckily I spent the next day mixing water bringing the salinity back up slowly. Hopefully the silver lining is you guys come back bigger and better! Props to Salem for putting in the long hours!
Damn sorry to hear... it's times like this why I don't throw stuff that still work out. Though I am running out of storage space too so something needs to be cleaned out and given away in the Spring.
That's wild! I remember my black swan event back in 2019 on Thanksgiving day when the apartment two floors above me caught fire at 2am triggering a 3-alarm fire. It took me 5 trips to get all of my non tank-bound animals out of the apartment while the FD was running up to put the fire out. Having never been through a fire before, little did I know that all of the water and god only knows what else would end up not only in my tank but all over everything else in my unit. Everything was a total loss, including my aquarium and all of it's life as a result, even though flames never touched my unit at all. It was horrible and yet I still have no method of preparing for such an event should it happen again. #CaliKidCorals
That's wild, hoping you guys can make up the time somehow. Make sure you get the most out of that claim, your time is worth something! Lawyer up if needed. On a side note i somehow feel raj will use this to delay his own tank even more.
Harbor Freight Generators are awesome!! Had a 3 day power outage, got a 2000w generator/inverter for $600. It can return pump and heater on two different systems for three days. Saved my dsiplay and the 1,000 frags I have!!
I live in Florida so hurricanes knock out power every year. The best thing I've bought is battery power bubblers. If they are plugged in and the power shuts off they automatically turn on so I can Sleep without having to worry about the tank. Then I have a generator for extended periods of time. #CaliKidCorals
Only disaster was power outages since I moved to my new place. I use my car with a converter as my generator 😂 runs the return pumps and some wave makers
Aaaaaahhhhhhhh shit. That blows, sorry to hear... I've never had a total disaster (knock on wood) but I've been under prepared for heat waves. I don't have generators but I've gotten battery backups for now. #Calikidcorals
What's the best way to get ahold of Chris Wood? I've been dosing captiv8 and love it..just curious about what elements can't be mixed etc. Sorry to hear about the accident guys.
I remember my power went out and I had to set an alarm for every couple hours to wake me up to mix the tank to keep air flow. Power out for 3 days. Couldn’t get anywhere. I lost 0 livestock 😅. #calikidcorals
Storm came through and knocked power out for a few hours. I keep an ego inverter with a couple of batteries and just plug in a powerhead to keep surface agitation. Nothing compared to a dang car crashing into the building though. #CaliKidcorals
Sorry you guys are dealing with someone crashing through your wall. I don't know what I would do in that situation. I only have nano reefs so if that happened to me, it would definitely result in a restart with a new aquarium.

Greta work Salem, youve done an amazing job buddy and all the volunteers that helped out too, amazing community

Raj will do anything to prevent Salem from finishing his multiple tank setups before his one setup.
😂
Rough. You guys and your expertise will recover!
They wanted to see the studio REALLY BAD

So shortsighted to not planning for a car hitting the buidling... 😓 😉 Great thing you were sitting right there!
Wowzers... that's crazy!!! Holy moly!!! Welcome to the trace elements dosing, you'll be amazed at the improved colors.

Dang guys, best wishes
Overhaul the whole studios and and and and BOLLARDS!
Good show thanks guys

Yeah, see this is the exact thing reefkeepers save EVERYTHING for right?! I have trouble getting rid of the pee cups frags come in, lol! ~Remy

Salem didn’t do any work and hired a driver when he realized it’s time to turn in homework😂 Joke aside, super glad he is ok and no one else injured.
Raj may be able to finish his tank first now.
Buzz Buzz! ~Remy

With that kind of structural damage, what kind of rebuild is the studio looking at?
New reef builders studio courtesy of insurance!? I’m sorry all those Abyzz pumps got destroyed when the car ran into the place! 😉
Harbor freight predator generals are well respected. Wen on Amazon odd also cheap but good
So sorry . Maybe it’s time to move the studio to Atlanta ?
Don’t use zip ties. Use Velcro. U can buy roles in different sizes and u can use a pair of scissors to cut to size
Was going to say, there's even better than those. There's grey or black strips that come pre-cut and connect to each other.
Only disaster was power outages since I moved to my new place. I use my car with a converter as my generator 😂 runs the return pumps and some wave makers
Oh no!!! I’ve been in a building when that happened, sounded and felt like a bomb going off in the next suite over.
It was pretty crazy, what a year it's been! ~Remy
@reeftherapy well I’m glad no one was injured and the damage wasn’t too bad and the corals and fish we’re saved.

Get the other flats heat situation figured out? Cris said you had an issue with that due to the electrical getting re ran
More losses!
Awe man 😔

What?!! Well you are right next to a micro brewery
Surprisingly, it actually wasn't anyone from the brewery. Just an employee in the lot behind the studio moving a car and slid on the snow. ~Remy
Snow storm came through and knocked power out for a 12 hours. I had a generator powering the tank minus the lights. #CaliKidcorals

Yeah, hard to prep for a car lol. Always good to have something on hand for sure. ~Remy
Had a 3 day power outage in July! Had to run around to different stores to find a battery powered air pump. #calikidcorals
Now you've got them on hand! They can really help in a pinch. Cheap too! ~Remy
Lawyer fees are $3 to $10, in the Philippines…😆
Sad 😢
I’ll have to purchase a new generator #CaliKidCorals
Raj is right. This happened for a reason. It is a right of passage for Salem. It will be his kingdom after..
Good way to look at the situation. Absolutely WILD that it happened though 🤯 ~Remy
Someone got fired that day
