Firstly, I thank you for this amazing video ❤️ It's great to see some DtB content. Now this may be an unpopular opinion, but after seeing the entirety of DtB's franchise in the chronological order (S1, Shikkoku no Hana, OVAs, S2), I can say for sure that I prefer S2 over S1, and one of the reasons for that is for how desperate and lost Hei felt in those episodes. Hei just wanted to protect his present and his future, he wanted a good life with Yin and he fought over and over again after S1 to make that possible. But in the OVAs, the world just destroyed everything he believed in and took the most important person in his life from him AGAIN. After Bai, after Amber, they also took Yin from him. He realized that he CAN'T be happy. The reason I love Hei in S2 so much is because you can feel how lost and alone he is, but after meeting Suou, he managed to move forward and mend himself little by little. In the end of the series, he goes to rescue Yin and settle the things with the organization once and for all, but this time he's not "The Black Reaper", he doesn't need to wear a mask; he's Hei. He's not an assassin or some pesky intruder in the Syndicate's plans, he's a contratist that is too human to be one, searching for his happiness. This song, "Can You Fly", represents the most hard moments for Hei, but I find it amazing to know that the final ending is like him finally being happy with the person he did everything to protect. "Now say it again, thought it'd be great if I could remain together with you". That last scene of him holding her made me tear up, it was just heartwarming to see that after all he went through, he got her.
That is what I was going for, when making this AMV, my previous AMV of "Jesus Cloud" ( th-cam.com/video/-21xWthFJWY/w-d-xo.html ) is meant to show as you said how lost Hei was when losing someone he deeply cared about again
