      You can also use that deck to play Euchre. 2 Euchre Ducks equal one pinochle deck.

    I enjoy 2-player games where you "build" your own hand from the deck. Each player, on their turn, looks at the top card and chooses to keep it or reject it. If he rejects it, he MUST take the 2nd card. The card not chosen is discarded and the other player does not see it. Keep choosing cards this way to the last 2 cards. The person who is in line to choose from the last 2 cards may look at both and choose 1. This puts a new spin on the game that's really fun.

    You missed the most important part, the deal. To determine dealer you cut high card wins non-dealer shuffles and cuts than the dealer may give a single Shuffle and then deals the cards 3 at a time

    The following suit thing is confusing me a little... In the first round you need not follow suit, but to win the trick you must follow suit, correct? Otherwise play trump? Are you able to play anything else if you want to conserve good cards?
    In the second round, you "must follow suit". So if you have no cards of the suit led, that's the only time you may play trumps? They say "must follow suit IF POSSIBLE" so what happens if you have neither suit nor trump? I'm stuck particularly at that question.

    when the trump card gets moved to the player who lost the last trick of phase 1, then how do you determine the next trick?

    Absolutely, it comes from the game of Binokel which is the German adaptation of French bésigue

    If diamonds are trump and i hold a 9 of diamonds, and the current trump card from the deck is a 9 of diamonds, do I get points if I switch trade my 9 of diamond s from my hand for the one that turned over from the deck? Also, am I allowed to trade my 9 of diamonds every turn for the 9 of diamonds that’s currently the trump card?

    Well I definitely will have to watch quite a few videos to understand and this one video gave me a taste of it but I'm not sure if it's a game I really want to play. I was also looking at canasta. Sometimes you look at a game for the 1st time and it seems stupid to you or unnecessarily complicated. And I play mahjong so maybe people would think the same of that when they saw it but of course that game I love and I play American and Asian versions. So I'll try to give pinochle and canasta a chance and buy decks.

    Do you score tricks in the first phase or do you only score melds and with till the second phase to score tricks? Great video, thanks!

    If I put down pinochle and a few turns later I have the cards for another pinochle, can I put it down for double? Or do I have to put the both down in the same meld turn?

  • @lauraberendson4032

    Not sure if I saw correctly but in phase 2 it it looked like a trick was taken with a Queen when the person actually had a Jack and I was wondering why they used their Queen of trump and not the Jack of trump If there is some significance that special to the Jack why would you waste a higher trump on a lower card why wouldn't you save it

    Don’t you have to follow suit ? And if you can’t follow suit , you have to trump ?

    You played 4 of the kings and the other player had 4 of the queens but you didn't play it and I don't understand why. Looks like it is one of every suit in the Queen but maybe my images too small and it isn't.

    if I put down a Meld does it count immediately or at the end of phase one. And also does it still count after I destroy that meld later in to make a new one or to add to my deck?

    • @jndillaha
      @jndillaha 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Juvens Jean-Noel yes, I believe it counts immediately and thus you are allowed to use cards from the melds to play tricks in the first phase.

    There are many versions of pinochle and this may help you get started but there are also a fair few video mistakes.
    Why waste a trump on a non-scoring card?
    Normally you can only re-use melded cards in a higher meld (although this may be a variant rule)
    dix meld scores 10 points
    In first phase you don't have to follow suit, in second phase you MUST follow suit. Normally you also have to over trump if you can.

    As far as following suite, in 2 handed only until the stack is played through, there is no such thing as a play mistake. You don't have to follow suite, you don't have to go over the highest card played and you can use a trump at any time.

    What happens in the second phase if one person ends up with more cards than the other? Do they just get those points?

    • @jndillaha
      @jndillaha 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      George Sever there is one unturned card left over after the last 1st phase trick, so the winner of the last hand gets the trump card and loser of that hand has to take that unturned card, so now both players have 12 cards for the 2nd phase. Also, I think you can alter the rules to allow the winner of the last 1st phase trick to choose if he wants to take the trump card or the last unturned card.

    Very helpful. But how is it that at 3:35 you said pinochle was worth 40 points but at 10:06 you wrote that it was worth 30?

  • @morrigambist
    @morrigambist 9 ปีที่แล้ว

    In phase 2 if you cannot follow suit to a non-trump lead, you must play a trump if you have one. If the first player leads a trump, you must play a higher trump if you have one. These are the "standard" rules; people in your locality may play differently. Also, if you turn a nine as the trump card, you score 10 points.

  • @seaturtle2576
    @seaturtle2576 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    One difference between how I play is, you have to follow suit and you have to take the trick if you can. For example: in the video during the first trick, he played trump instead of a spade, to save 80 kings. We would have considered that a renege because he had spades in his hand. They way we play, we would have had to play in suit.

      +Bry Willis Very true, Bry. If anyone has a better grasp on this Pinochle variant (compared to the person in this video) please create a new video and announce it at PowerPinochle.com/forum/ We want to develop our Pinochle Notation to accommodate all variants.

    He is not showing the correct way to follow suit. In the beginning he laid down a 9 of spades. In the second exposed hand, there were spades available to play such as the King and Queen of spades. In Pinochle you HAVE to follow suit if you can. You cannot randomly play a trump card to take a trick.

    • @rgnet1
      @rgnet1 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      According to rules online, you only have to follow suit AFTER the meld phase is over. Before, you can always break suit. This is to give you flexibility to build a good meld.

    That is not how Pinocle is played at all. You play a "dummy" hand if you are playing a two player game.
