Been watching tons of golf related videos on TH-cam, urs & a very very few others have significant impact on really improving my swing & ball striking skill. And I usually never leave comments (good or bad :). Thank you. You are worth watching.
This one tip transformed my game today and I've been playing since I was 14 in 1971. Effortlessly took 2 shots off at virtually every hole even though the course was exceedingly boggy due to all the recent, relentless rain. 6s and 7s turned into 4s and 5s, hole after hole on par 71, slope 133 course. An amazing experience. If only someone had told me this years ago. Thanks a million
Good video. Bradley Hughes (GolfAus) talks a lot about this. There is also a clip of Tiger giving a clinic where he talks about his intent being to make the fastest part of his swing after the ball. When he says that, the crowd laughs, thinking he's joking. Tiger responds "no, I'm serious".
I’m a Mike Austin method advocate and find nothing thus far that negates Mike’s teaching. I put a long hammer into the hands of folks who ask for help and they get it after just a few swings. (Bill Melhorn) That feeling of fast downswing vs fast release can also be easily felt by throwing a ball at an imaginary ball at normal address ball position- towards 1 o’clock for draws, 11 for fades, etc- 12 being the target line. Holding a club upright just outside the ball with the lead arm parallel to the ground further helps ingrain a proper path. I’ve turned many a slicer into draw hitters just with that. Great vids. Are you familiar with Joe Dante? “The Four Magic Moves to Winning Golf.” I found Mike and Joe in my early sixties. Today at 69, I’m striving to break the 5 hc barrier that had me stonewalled for over 40 years. Much of what I was doing was not the best way for me. Keep your instruction coming. I’m sure it sheds new light for many struggling golfers.
It also makes sense that if you "know" you are looking for speed at and after impact, it could help us with our rotation and approach to impact? Like you mention, it is the perception that makes this work, along with actually swinging faster, but with control. Great video. Watching your stuff has helped me so much! I dropped 7 shots this past weekend and it was purely by striking the ball flush and keeping it in the fairway and towards the green! Thanks again.
Johnathan needs to be on the Golf Channel with his knowledge of the swing, excellent lesson. Btw, concentrating on accelerating after impact gives you much better control of the shot IMO. Often I've done the quick pull down with the hands and it leads to all sorts of inconsistencies with my ball flight, typically pulls.
I discover that with a slow start and then a smooth downswing start, this whoosh effect and distance is amazing, with the sensation to swing like Ernie😂 and what a distance gain !
I struggle with rushing my whole swing and not slowing down and taking my time. Are you bringing the club back slower and not firing as fast in downswing?
Absolute truth here. As mentioned Bradley Hughes ( Golf Aus) has some really detailed stuff about post impact effect on ball speed and flight. The concept of there being a delay is a good one, I think of it as this.. if you are going faster after contact you have accelerated through the ball. A mass ( clubhead) under acceleration is much more stable and less likely to twist. Again - Physics 1 : Complex swing thoughts 0.
Golf is like living in the past. By the time you feel something in your swing it's already happened. To feel the speed "post impact" is necessary to actually get the speed applied at the ball.
First time watching your channel this morning. I'm a 11 handicap and the reason I can't get lower is distance. My driver is like 220 average and I have to use hybrids or woods into most greens. Tried this today on the range and was hitting 240-265. Thank you so much. And you have another subscriber. 😁
hi johnathan , long term subscriber !- brilliant channel, just wondering what launch monitor are you using in this video ? i was looking to get a reliable launch monitor for my golf net, however unsure as to which is best i.e. garmin etc? - any suggestions much appreciated, thanks
I seem to be someone who cannot generate much club head speed, but I am going to give this " feeling " a try...will this work for my driver too....thank you
Okay... when you say some hitters try to increase their downswing speed... are you saying they try to quickly transition to the downswing? or are you saying they INCREASE the SPEED of the downswing?
I have separate question about setup . I see you and others set up away from the ball then reach out to the ball. What’s the rationale behind that? I ask mainly for driver because my miss is on the heal and i wonder if that setup will help. Reaching for the ball a bit more .
If you are mainly hitting on the heel then you are standing to close to the ball so yes you do need to extend the arms out more. It would be well woth it for you to grab some practice balls and go to the range and work on getting more centre contact.
@@Neeper78 I misspoke. I shouldn’t have said “steep”. I have an odd swing flaw where my hands move straight down from the top of the swing. There’s no movement outward toward the ball. But the staff is not too steep. I can shallow the club fine. Just can’t get my hands to work OUTWARD. So basically I end up under the plan too much and my path is too much from the inside. I shoot pretty well but I pull the ball from time to time
@@Trash_Panda_Manifesto That sounds like you are not letting the left hip start the downswing so the body gets out of the way and instead you are concentrating on your hands and arms too much so they get caught behind your body and you might flip at the ball to get back on line and that's what can cause the pull at times.
..if your hands are leading the club then if you have max hand speed at the ball then that’s too early as the club is lagging behind, to compensate for this you need to have max hand speed beyond the ball position, after the impact position is referring to space NOT time, c’mon dude do better

Awesome to hear!!
Curious ... what launch app were you using to film this video? Great illustration!

Absolutely, Tiger with the wisdom

Thanks bud! Absolutely, way better face control!
Great swing thought! Thanks!
Great tip. I have not seen that tip before. Very helpful.
I discover that with a slow start and then a smooth downswing start, this whoosh effect and distance is amazing, with the sensation to swing like Ernie😂 and what a distance gain !
Big gain absolutely!

Great channel by the way, excellent lessons!!
Thanks Phil!
It feels like you made this video for me, so thanks! Will give it a go in my first round of the year this week.
This is also great for sequencing, getting through the ball, and strike(especially if you’re hitting it fat).

Hi J, what do you think about the Stack system, will it really improve speed without impacting tempo? Be grateful for your thoughts? Mike
What software are you using on the right side of the screen to track your shots and club speed??
Flightscope mevo+ 👍🏼
First! Lovely tip - will give that a go. Feels like you go in to the ball with stored energy
Absolutely!
loving these videos. I've just put a net in the back garden. Which launch monitor are you using to track ball and distances.
I came into the comments wanting to ask the same thing. Looks like he answered in an earlier comment.
Great stuff!
I look a inch ana half ahead of the ball as my spot without looking at the ball. This gives you a real solid strike and proper divot
Stay tuned as that a topic in one of next weeks videos 👍🏼
i am trying to figure out how to implement this
Okay... when you say some hitters try to increase their downswing speed... are you saying they try to quickly transition to the downswing? or are you saying they INCREASE the SPEED of the downswing?
But how do you get faster post impact? My biggest miss trying to apply all the speed at impact which make me get flippy
It’s all about the intent, nothing technical
are you saying to control the head to the ball and release after the ball?
No, i'm saying to make the fastest part of your swing after impact. That intent will deliver your speed through impact.
I don’t understand, my club speeds are always between 90-100mph and I do not hit an 8-iron no 160. My 8-iron is generally around 140.
Cheers!

Incredible. Both swings looked the same
Technically very similar
I want to gain distance, but when I swing faster, I tend to get steep. I struggle to shallow the club with any speed.
Is it possible that your hands might be too fast? That’s my issue. Worked on slowing it down today at my lesson with great results.

Nope

The ball is already gone after impact, so who cares what you do after impact…
Feeling fast post impact places the speed through the ball as explained in the video
