Greetings from Cairns in the Land of Aus mate .. Welcome to the world of Slow Pitch Jigging and well done on your first try, especially in those rough surf conditions!
Cool. I was all getting back into it with my channel and then a few months ago, whammo car wreck. But finally getting off the injured list. I love fishing the surf. Glad I just happened by this channel and nice to know these little irons work in the surf. Nice video. I’m going to have to try this out this week. I am definitely hooked on socal 😉 👍🏻🦵🏻🦨🗑️🔥💪🏻🤙🏻
This time of year when the high tides are in the evening (usually the windiest time of day), those micro jigs are awesome. They cast upwind and they get bites in that choppy water.
Try Charley Brewers Crappie jigs on a Carolina Rig with a 6 foot leader. 3/4 ounce or lighter should work nicely in SoCal. I live in NorCal the waves are a little more violent up north. Thank me later. U can leave those sand crabs in the sand.
Awesome! I've been to cherry beach just one time and got skunked. I know a lot of people do great over there. I should head back and give it another try.
@@HookedonSoCal when you go to cherry beach, fish the first three lifeguard towers to the left once your park. There are some eel grass a ways out. You need to cast out till you find the eel grass and work the micro jig slow. I like to to find the bottom and just two to three bounces at time working my way back. I try to keep it as close to the bottom as possible. There are some bait fish in the water right now. So anything silver/ white. I’ve caught a bunch of short halibuts, butterfly rays and some sand bass. Good luck! How to run into you some day!
@@huotponlok5914 wow! thanks so much for the detail. that's awesome! you don't have a problem with the treble hooks in the eel grass? i fish sometimes in the grass at los alamitos and i probably wouldn't throw a micro jig. would definitely love to run into you!
@@HookedonSoCal Cherry Beach is generally sandy bottom and the structure are the eel grass. I don't usually get caught up when I use the jigs with the treble hook. It's like you're casting out to an empty field with trash strewn all over. You're more likely to catch/snag debris. Ive caught a bunch of Sand Bags bass. lol I do pretty well with a jerkbait there as well. Cherry beach does not have big waves and is pretty flat on most days. I fish it between 0600-1000. It best on low tide cause it allows you to cast closer to the eel grass. I find the eel grass and then work it left or right and right until I don't get any eel grass and then I'll work that non eel grass for awhile. I get a ton of bites this way. It gets pretty calm there and I've been able to use 3g and 7g gram jigs. Daiso sells fishing stuff and I always buy their jigs 3g and 7g jigs whenever they are in stock. When the waves are lapping the shore and the top looks likes glass, I fish it slow and something shiny; allows the fish to zone in one the lure. When its choppy and you can hear the crashing of the waves, I'll fish fast and erratic. If the fish are there they will bite. sometimes. maybe. a lot of the time. lol I fish the mornings there and always try to find a low low tide to fish. I hope you catch your PB anything at cherry with a micro jig! TIght Lines!
I primarily focus on fishing around the highest tide of the day - if I have a choice. usually try to be out an hour or so before and fish until an hour after. Otherwise, I think it's best to just go as early as possible in the morning.
Bold of you to assume I know what I'm doing. haha. I'm just learning as I go and passing it along! I love trying new stuff. I think I'll figure these out more on a calm day.
Yeah, I feel like sand crabs are the most reliable things to use. I'll sometimes use sand crabs to find the fish, and then switch to something else to try it out.
It was a rising tide, about 1.5 hours before high tide. You are correct, that they are designed to sink pretty quickly to the bottom. But by jigging it during the retrieve, it will flutter along the bottom.
These lures do work VERY well for local surf perch and other species, even tuna when they are going after smaller baits. The big surprise to me was that I didn't end up loosing a lure or spending time dealing with eel grass or kelp on the lure. I didn't waste time clearing salad from the hooks, just fish.
Needed more CA surf fishing videos, glad I stumbled onto this video and your channel! Look forward to more!
Glad you're enjoying it!
Beautiful sunset day at the beach. Always enjoy the dependable surf perch. Nice video 👍👍
Thank you!

Hey! Thank you. I appreciate the compliment. It's really a fun way to fish. I'm looking forward to really getting it dialed in.

Try a Lucky Craft Flashminnow 110 instead. You won't land as many but when you do they are considerably larger. Tested and proven.
Yeah, I've never had much luck with the lucky craft. I need to give them another shot.

Yeah, that's what i'm finding for sure. And, they are a lot of fun to fish with! I like the more active style of fishing.
Nice, always wonder about using a jig vs. the tried and true Gulp Sandworms
Yeah, give it a try if you have a chance. Fun to try new things
Caught some decent surf perch 👏
Such a beautiful day to be fishing. Really enjoyed the video.
SUBBED!! 😎
Thanks so much! It really has been beautiful here recently - at least when the fog finally burns off.

I'll thank you now! Going to order some time. Thank you so much for the advice. Really appreciate!
I agree. Leave the sand crabs in the sand. Berkley gulp sand worms work great
Nice!
Nice video!! Subscribed.
Thank you!!
I fish the 15g Submission Jigs Mercernary at Cherry beach and have caught a lot of halibut. I enjoy fishing the micro jigs!

Great watch may need to try to get me some of those micro jigs myself 😂
Thanks man! I'm definitely going to keep trying them out. I think they will do even better in calmer conditions.
Good stuff
Thanks! I went out the next night and, in addition to 4 surf perch, caught a corbina as well with the jigs. I was really stoked about that.
Any upcoming *catch, clean, and cook* videos ?
That's a good idea. I need to do that. I've also got some sheepshead and yellowtail in the freezer i should do a video on how to cook them.

Thank you!
Are these jigs available at any of the local shops? Mail order only?
I got mine at Charkbait tackle store in Huntington Beach. It looks like Amazon also has them.
Fisherman’s Access in Brea carries them also.
@@joeong8323 Right on! Good to know.
I got mine on ebay
Do a catch and cook video on the beach 🎣
great idea!
whats the best time to fish HB surf?

I’m going to have to meet you there one day so you can teach me haha

Hey I keep striking out lol at least you’re catching something 😂
Those who say leave sand crabs in the sand are fishing them wrong.
Yeah, I feel like sand crabs are the most reliable things to use. I'll sometimes use sand crabs to find the fish, and then switch to something else to try it out.
Seems like those jigs will sink the bottom immediately due to the shallow water. And seems like you started the video at low tide.
