@@glpinho I agree. This album was their pinnacle in hindsight. The best when it comes to creativity and bandmembers. Mustis and Vortex added something special and unique. Yes for me The Insight and the Catharsis is also their best song, maybe only Mourning Palace comes close.
Reptile comes at a very close 2nd in this album. Everything else follows very close behind. It's just an amazing album, evocative of 80's and 90's fantasy-related media.
My 1st Dimmu Borgir album. Takes me back to my teenage years. Thank you for posting. I paid $30 for this cd, but the nostalgia it gives me now is priceless.
Yea nostalgia is priceless indeed. I paid almost 40 for my copy of Gorgoroth's Twilight of the Idols album 2 years ago. I got this DIMMU BORGIR masterpiece for 13 buks on ebay
Pretty much the same with me; even the time I got introduced to BM through Dimmu and Emperor in the early 2000's To this day, SBD holds a special place in my heart
Masterpiece!!! Arcane Lifeforce Mysteria is what got me started with this band and ALL extreme metal. I heard it on a late night radio show one night and it blew my mind! The damn DJ never told us who it was (I cursed him repeatedly)!!!! I kept searching all my metal resources until I FINALLY found this CD. I've never looked back.
This album is an absolute masterpiece from beginning to end. Great musicianship, production, feeling and lyrics. Not many albums measure up to this level.
The chemistry of this line-up was one of the kind with Peter behind producers desk.. they never repeated it by songwriting, what they did on SBD. With Tjodlav behind kit music breathe, no harsh feelings towards Barker (he is an alien behind the drums)
Barker was good behind the drums and they did awesome songs with him, but the one member who gave a distinctive edge to SBD was Astennu. Check out Carpe Tenebrum's second album and you will see what I mean. He almost influenced PEM as well, but he blew the bridges with the band and his input was diluted (check the early version of Blessings... as proof).
The Promised future aeons and insight are my fav songs. Dunno for others but that was my cup of tea from first listeing. And after 21 years same passionate listening and chills and parts where Mustis and Vortex explain some things of what is dimmu borgir at first and after their leaving, last good thing in band! Never again same quality!

I remember hearing the first time the kickoff Song "Reptile" through my Headphones and it blew my mind, it was in midsummer somewhere in 2007 and i had to show this to one of my best friends who was also a metalhead and came ringing on my door almost daily. These memories of a simple & warm age where i was free & vital as Fvck. To the music: Listen to the AtmosFear that Mustis creates and the high level piano/keyboard skills, speaking of high level, Astennu is the best guitar player this band ever had, those majestic arpeggios & solos fit in perfectly, Dreamside Dominions is the perfect example of combining skills of the 2 mentioned members. All together with vortex's unique clean singing makes it a masterpiece that's criminally underrated. One of those albums that leads me to the Gates of my memories hidden beyond dusk and always waiting and happy to be visited again.
Hands down the best album they ever made. So tired of everyone always praising Puritanical when this one is miles above in terms of atmosphere and aggression.
This album and Enthrone Darkness Triumphant are the only Dimmu albums I still come back to. I like Enthrone better than this album but this is still a very solid album.
I don't see anything on discogs about this album ever being remastered or remixed but this upload definitely sounds different from Spotify or the individual tracks from the official TH-cam Music auto-upload.
