Yes, short books! I love single sitting novellas, really reinvigorates my reading habit, reminds me I can read and finish a book when my attention makes it seem long ones are impossible. Passing was great, such a classic, and a really nice flow that also helps it be a single sitting rather than multiple short sits.
If you have not read Becky Chambers's most recent two books, A Psalm for the Wild Built and A prayer for the Crown Shy, I HIGHLY recommend. Each are about 150 pages. I would read a million books just like it.
I am new to your channel. I am so grateful for your content! I’ve read a ton of classics, and lately, I’ve wanted more good modern literature. Your reviews are so helpful! I am excited to read many of these shorter works. Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!
The Woman in the Purple Skirt sounds like the kind of book I need to get my hands on asap!! Thank you for this lovely list of recommendations, I got to know so many new wonderful books 🥰
This video came at the absolute best time. I don't have much time to read recently and I don't like starting-stopping long books over a very long period of time, so short stuff is just what I need, thank you for the recs!
I’ll throw my own rec in here: All Systems Red by Martha Wells is a lovely little science fiction short story!! I read through it in around an hour and a half, it’s a witty post-human story told from the point of view of Murderbot, a sentient robot designed for protection. Wells is still adding to the series it’s a part of, if you like the first one :)
Hi Christy, thanks for the great recs! You may also like Leila and the Blue Fox, by the same author as Julia and the shark, I was sent an arc and it was fab! Also The Last Bear by Hannah Gold is gorgeous! For graphic novels Lore Olympus is excellent based on the story of Hades and Persephone. Take care x
I recently bought your book and thoroughly enjoyed it! I didn’t read it in a single sitting though, I’d read a bit each night before bed, and managed to stretch it out over a week. Love Neil Gaiman, The Ocean at the End of the Lane was brilliant. And since we seem to have similar taste in books, I’ve just done click and collects on Drop Bear and Onibi - Diary of a Yokai Ghost Hunter from two of my local bookstores. Might have to hunt down Wise Women as well, I have the Angela Carter book of Fairytales and have always enjoyed that.
I love Convenience Store Woman and definitely second the recommendation. Thanks for the list! When you mentioned that Onibi is originally in French, I ordered the original French graphic novel right away since I'm currently learning the language.
I love Onibi, it was short and sweet read with gorgeous illustrations and convinience store woman was such a ride... it felt like a fever dream... in a good way xD
I love Banana Yoshimoto but I haven't read Moshi Moshi. I was glad to hear your review of it. I've read both Passing and The Woman in the Purple Skirt. I agree with your assessment of them, but I thought The Woman in the Purple Skirt was kind of weird. It kept me reading it though! I tried reading The Ocean At the End of the Lane once but it was too dark for me because I was already in a dark mood. I plan to try to reread it at some point. As always, I love your videos!
You always have such an interesting selection of books in your videos! I am hoping to pick up A Year in Tokyo sometime really soon as well - it looks so beautiful and joyful! ☺
I read The Ocean at the End of the Lane thanks to you! I also love Gaiman and somehow I missed it! Absolutely adored it! (Same as Graveyard Book) ahh so amazing!
If you want a really great and heartbreaking read you can do in one day (and watch the movie adaptation to!) I highly recommend Dream Boy by Jim Grimsley. I've never not finished it in one sitting and as much as it makes me cry it's such a well written piece!
I’m new to your channel as well. I agree with most of your book choices. I also see that you have an interest in Japanese culture which has prompted me to ask if you have read Clavell’s book Shogun? It’s is a great book but rarely hear anyone mention it anymore.
If I could recommend a graphic novel, I just read Mr Punch by Neil Gaiman which was very good - it’s almost like a companion piece to The Ocean at the end of the Lane
Love the recommendations! I just finished 2 books this month that are slim reads you could get through in a day: Emily Itami's Fault Lines about a Tokyo housewife who is dissatisfied with her marriage 224 pages - 5 hour audio is lovely. Becky Chamber's A Psalm for the Wild Built is a sci-fi parable conversation on purposeful life 147 pages.
@@kimonaNo1 yeah that’s one of my personal favorite as well, she has some other pretty good short story collections but unfortunately not being translated into English. I recently read the Dead-end Memories, which is her latest short story collection in English, would recommend if you like Kitchen
This is brilliant, thanks so much! I'd like to recommend another short novel, "Small things like these" by Claire Keegan, a brilliant book. I read it in just an hour or so but it's extremely absorbing and thought provoking.
I personally really disliked The Woman in The Person Skirt. I feel like it didn't offer much more than weird vibes. The story ended so randomly and left me unsatisfied.
Thank YOU for creating such beautiful poetry 😭😭 Also, this is not the last time I will recommend the collection. So I will probably tag you again. And again. You've been warned 😅
Hi there! I've been sorta binging your videos lately because I find them so peaceful and relaxing plus they get me wanting to read more which is awesome since I've not been doing for a number of years. I decided to comment when you said you wanted to get more into graphic novels, had to throw in my 2 cents; I highly recommend "Nimona" and "V for Vendetta". Two opposites tonally and art wise but both are fantastic, Nimona was my favorite book in general for a bit when I first got it 10 or so years ago. Anyway, I love your vids, they've sorta become my go tos to unwind. Hope you get around to more graphic novels, I'd love to hear your thoughts on them. Btw, where you get the music for your vids? That's like 50% of the relaxation aspect I find in your content and I'm just curious if it's simply royalty free piano or not. Many thanks 🙃
"Scientists estimate the Greenland shark lives at least 250 years. They may live over 500 years." - US National Ocean Service / National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration
I love Greek mythology too and I've been trying to find books that tell the original stories and not just retellings. Do you (or anyone else here) have any suggestions? Thank you! 😊
I don’t know any fiction books that aren’t retellings, but for the myths themselves, there’s Greek Myths by Charlotte Higgins (I think that’s the name) and Pandora’s Jar by Natalie Haynes.
Hi Christy. Completely random question. Wondering if you use book tabs to annotate your books and if so, can you reccomend an Aussie-owned store online to buy them from? :)

I love how humble and not soft-soaping you are when it comes to your own book😊
If you have not read Becky Chambers's most recent two books, A Psalm for the Wild Built and A prayer for the Crown Shy, I HIGHLY recommend. Each are about 150 pages. I would read a million books just like it.
I came to the comments to say this. Whenever I'm in a slump I return to these books
These books are like going on a wonderful holiday. Beautiful books. I need book 3!

Love the Murderbot Chronicles!
I've learned that I really love novellas. The Ocean at the End of the Lane and Convenience Store Women are both favorites of mine!
I've been looking for short reads so this came at the right time!
The time machine by H G Wells is also interesting. Also, Tughlaq by Girish Karnad

Hello Christy! I am intrigued by your hard work and efforts uploading content on Sundays. Keep up the great work!
Passing is one of my favorites as well! We're also reading it for a fun community bookclub

Im planning to read my first Angela Carter book soon! Very excited 😊
Lovely video. Thank you for the book recs
I just read the emissary about a week ago! The version I have is called “The Last Children of Tokyo” - I thoroughly enjoyed the writing!
I’m new to your channel as well. I agree with most of your book choices. I also see that you have an interest in Japanese culture which has prompted me to ask if you have read Clavell’s book Shogun?
It’s is a great book but rarely hear anyone mention it anymore.
Super short but absolutly loved Galatea by Madeline Miller.
If I could recommend a graphic novel, I just read Mr Punch by Neil Gaiman which was very good - it’s almost like a companion piece to The Ocean at the end of the Lane

Hello Christy, another wonderful video, love to see your recomendations on books!
Love Banana Yoshimoto! It’s so therapeutic when it comes to her description of food,i actually prefer her short stories and her instagram 😂
I read 'Kitchen' years ago in the early 90s and was obsessed with her for a while! I can't wait to read Moshi Moshi now :)
@@kimonaNo1 yeah that’s one of my personal favorite as well, she has some other pretty good short story collections but unfortunately not being translated into English. I recently read the Dead-end Memories, which is her latest short story collection in English, would recommend if you like Kitchen
such a great list!! ty for sharing these books :)
I’m so excited to have another Christy video :) your videos are such a source of peace and friendship, you’re wonderful ❤
I have that same Totoro! I got it at the Akihabara (sp?). New subscriber.
This is brilliant, thanks so much! I'd like to recommend another short novel, "Small things like these" by Claire Keegan, a brilliant book. I read it in just an hour or so but it's extremely absorbing and thought provoking.
Thanks Much! Christy!
Totoro. 🥰
You always make great content.
I wish you’d list the books or add chapters to your videos
I personally really disliked The Woman in The Person Skirt. I feel like it didn't offer much more than weird vibes. The story ended so randomly and left me unsatisfied.
The weird vibes were what I loved! I had no idea how creepy it was going to go when it started, so it felt to me like a bizarre and terrifying delight
As always thank you for your insightful and lovely videos. ✨✨Have you read Becky Chamber’s A Psalm for the Wild-Built?
Love your vid 🙌📚
❤ Thank you. xxxx
Thank YOU for creating such beautiful poetry 😭😭 Also, this is not the last time I will recommend the collection. So I will probably tag you again. And again. You've been warned 😅
Love this advices

Hi it’s me again I just have to also recommend
Memoirs of a Geisha by Arthur Golden. Excellent. A memorable read.

can you share what's the lipstick you used here?:"))) love the red so much!!

Why are your palms so orange? 🤔
Maybe turmeric or some kind of food coloring perhaps?
No, not turmeric. Just the natural colour of my skin 😅
