FunFact: If you get caught by DogDay during his chase scene, in his jumpscare audio you can hear him screaming “ NO “ if you slowed it down so that proves he had little control over his own body plus when he’s choking and, gagging it’s possible he was trying to communicate with the protagonist but failed to do so.
Edit: This was 2 months ago I know but I decided to edit this.
After escaping DogDay and leaving the PlayHouse, Ollie calls us then he says this, “ Hey! Are you ok? No ouchies or lost body parts?
*sigh,* I’m really glad your okay. “
Ollie says “ lost body parts “ he was aware DogDay was locked away in the PlayHouse for an unknown amount of time and CatNap tortured him for not viewing the Prototype as a god, plus it’s clear that Ollie doesn’t like the PlayHouse it’s possibly because the mini critters we’re eating DogDay’s flesh when they were rewarded.
Wait so he was still somehow alive even after being half eaten by the mini critters, that’s crazy well at least he is dead now so no more suffering.

Wait Dogday screamed "NO" in the jumpscare?! I didn't know that, I thought that was just him screaming. And yeah I picked that up too when Ollie said "lost body parts", and we don't know for sure until chapter 4, but I'd like to think Ollie IS the Prototype since he can mimic voices and is very intelligent.
Also when Ollie mentioned the shrine for the Prototype he said "if you thought that was scary, wait til you see the real thing", like the Prototype wants you to come find him and encounter him, but as we all know every boss fight has a weakness and/or a weak spot for you to attack in order to defeat him.

He was definitely my favourite of the Smiling Critters. Even right before his gruesome demise, he was still hopeful for the player, encouraging that they can still fix things and fight back against The Prototype.
Even though I’m more of a cat person myself, there are some dogs that I also like.
On the other hand, CatNap is my least favourite. He’s just horrible, delusional and sick.
I'm a cat person too, yet DogDay became my favorite Smiling Critter in just the two minutes he talked to us.
Talk about good character writing.

Honestly, a really twisted idea I had about how Dogday stayed alive despite seemingly not eating is that Catnap actually fed him to keep him alive to prolong his suffering - but what if he had also forced Dogday to either eat the other smiling critters or maybe even parts of his own body? We've seen how animalistic the toys can be when hungry, so it could be that Catnap wanted to break Dogday in every possible way and actively fed him, only so he could keep Dogday alive as he was slowly eaten alive himself and show him how he failed the other smiling critters.

I think I have a theory,
Since Catnap never really made actual friends with the smiling critters, Dogday , being the leader decided to become friends with him. Maybe their friendship lasted for some time. But due to the Prototype's menacing control, Dogday noticed Catnap's behaviour changing weirdly, forcing him to stay away from Catnap.
And for Dogday calling Catnap "The thing" here is another theory...
We already know that Catnap tortured Dogday, so maybe Dogday's feelings of his friendship with Catnap withered away to turn him into saying The thing which refers to Catnap as torturing is a horrible thing to experience, especially ripping apart the legs of Dogday...

Dogday is my favorite character in all of poppy playtime, and thinking about his story, all the potential implications and how much it must’ve affected him is heartbreaking! A lot of people assume he died at the end of chase, being eaten alive by the little critters. The idea that he just.. dies, after all he went through, no final stand, no happy ending, is the worst part. Dogday absolutely deserves better. If anyone’s an “angel”, it’s him.
Sad part is his sudden death is pretty realistic. In his state, I doubt he would’ve been able to do any actual harm against CatNap or whatever other creatures we encounter. Still, it’s heartbreaking that he went out like that. I’m kinda hoping that he’s somehow still alive and the player will be able to save him. He survived years and years of torture, so it’s possible, right? 🥲
Does anyone else notice how he pauses before describing CatNap as a “Thing”? It seems as if he hesitates because he USED to know him, it’s highly speculated that CatNap and DogDay used to be close as best friends so I wonder if DogDay still struggles thinking of CatNap as a villain.

Due to a theory about Harley Sawyer being turned into DogDay, if it's ever proven then that'll be another reason why he was tortured, showing that Prototype held a grudge against him. Looking back to the Log 24459 VHS tape, it shows Sawyer will do anything to find the secret inside Prototype, not caring how Prototype reacts to the torment he likely felt during each session

When you really think about it, Dogday and Catnap are opposites. Dogday is a dog, Catnap is a cat, Catnap has a dark colour scheme, Dogday has a bright colour scheme, Dogday is against the prototype, Catnap is worshipping the prototype, and finally, Dogday’s neckless is a sun, Catnap’s neckless is a moon
One thing to note is that he still knows who he was prior, meaning the other critters were either children like catnap _or_ staff members like dogday. They likely had roles to play when interacting with the kids, but the happy and confident leader persona was likely just that- a persona. A role he played, not an actual leader. He's a scientist first and foremost

The toys don’t NEED to eat. They can survive without, they just get very think like catnap and usually go mad with hunger. Poppy was in a case for ten years and was fine

I just rewatched the cartoon and found it
my theory: Because normally CatNap controlled the ruined plushie things, they find out CatNap was killed. They let DogDay free and scout around for anything they can harvest themselves. Afterwards, maybe a nice toy on Poppy's side fixes DogDay up.
My theory is mainly similar, but I do personally believe that catnap had gotten rid of his legs the secured the blood off using the belt on his waist so whenever he wanted to he can easily make the smiling critters feast on his insides since it seems like they rarely feed them. That's just my guess though.
Going with your theory, this makes the cartoon even eerier. If in real life, the Critters and Dog Day banded together in a war against Cat Nap, then perhaps them screaming and laughing during the red smoke scene in the cartoon is them accepting their fate and accepting death, happily, just to end the pain.
Everything that happened with the smiling critters could have happened recently. Poppy never said they tried to stand up against the Prototype at anytime between the chapters.
What if the attack from DogDay and all the critters happened soon as Huggy died because why would Poppy say (We All Saw how you killed Huggy and Mommy) who is all?
I would assume it was the Critters and those posters were meant as a warning to the player. Where DogDay was captured during Chapter 2 and the critters died leaving their warnings besides Piggy and CraftyCorn where they are heard attacking somebody
But DogDay,Bubbaphent,BearHug and KickinChicken are heard trying to warn or escape and I believe Hoppy was underground trying to hop through the caves but ultimately fell due to how the railings are and some platforms are tilted over.
I would also add on if this theory was true that tried to turn the smaller toys where they had to choose between starving or fighting against catnap and the prototype and watching the critters die

The second meaning is that hour of joy is at 11AM and there can be assumed that 10:06 PM evening that Catnap have found the smiling critters and other survivors (Or the Hour of Joy happened mostly on the surface levels while CatNap is doing most of the work on PlayCare before the hour of joy can happen.
Otherwise we would have seen the red smoke all over the area if the footage is suppose to happen at same time as 11 AM
For how dogday got in the cell, catnap probably put him there and killed the smiling critters in front of him so that he would feel like he failed to lead the smiling critters against the prototype

I dunno if PoppyTheory reads comments but PickyPiggy might be an antagonist in the next chapter. In her cut outs she eats three of the critters and says “still hungry…hey, do you wanna be friends” maybe she’s a ravenous glutton trying to get us on our side so she can eat us

I think this character is amazing, personally it's one of my favorite and I heard he's generally a fan-favorite, inspiring many AU comics but also all those mods where we can save him, sincerely I'd be so sad if he was still possessed next time we see him, if we see him (that, I hope). At 5:06 you can see Dogday on top center of the Smiling Critters title, reinforcing the theory he was once their leader.

I actually think dogday was kept alive so his flesh wouldn't rot, so he could be used as a food source sue to foods scarcity.
Catnap didn't care about torturing him, he just was kept alive to feed the mini critters which was already punishment enough, also I believe that another reason he was treated like this was because he was an employee before he died, not a kid, miss delight was most likely an adult and we saw what catnap did to her, so all adult toys are treated with extra caution due to what they did to the children when they were alive, all if the experiments and torture, unless they work with catnap and the prototype they are used as food, because they already do that with the dead bodies from the hour of joy, so what's the difference even if they are in toy form.
Adults don't remember themselves when put into toys while children do, so the adult toys wouldn't understand why playtime co is evil as much and that's probably a reason why dogday went against the prototype. He didn't realise how much worse playtime co was and also that the prototype and other children wanted freedom. They might not have been included in the plan because they were an employee too, which is why they were so quick to assume the prototype was evil for this. Despite the prototype not being that bad of a guy, he didnt need to rescue theo when he did and couldve escaped, but chose to get captured again because he wanted theo to live, this turned him into catnap and is why catnap trusted him and sacrificed his body to the prototype at the end, his arms were out, body exposed, he knew what the prototype was gonna do so he willingly let it make him one with his god, he got what he wanted, he willingly let the prototype take his body. He never got betrayed.
Think what’s sad about DogDays death was not being able to save him and being forced to stand there and watch his demise. I feel like he could’ve been saved while he was giving his monologue.
Fr, I got a little frustrated at that because why are we just standing there listening to him give a death speech instead of helping him down 💀

Chapter 3 really got me into it, chapter 2 was pretty good but each one is creepier than the last. I can't imagine how terrifying chapter 4 is gonna be
everything else is fine but the "theory" that in the cartoon that dogday was trying to keep the other smiling critters away from catnap is just downright false and insane. we know in the cartoon that they were all friends. the cartoon, if it wasn't obvious, is very much disconnected from the "actual smiling critters"

Why did the person explaining the theory change voice's
There's a conclusion if you don't want to read
I think that the ruined critter ate his organs, There's no way all of them + vital organs can fit inside of him. They've been hungry and scared for a long time, so it makes more sense that DogDay was a mere of puppet to them, a suit to wear, something to control from the inside out. They would pose a much bigger threat if they were bigger, and the ruined critters knew that. I also believe that he was a snack for them. The ruined critters would come to DogDay when Catnap awarded them, they'd get to eat him as a snack, a source of food. Thats the only explanation of how so many of them were still alive. I also think that they ate the other ruined critters, if they were too weak, they would get eaten.
DogDay also has a belt tied around his waist to stop his vital organs from falling out his body. That belt is not part of his design + its far too tight for him. Re-check the sequence, when the ruined critters enter his body, the break/stretch the belt. Both mommy long legs and Catnap have human like hands, so its likely they took that from one of the dead workers belt and tied it around him.
His health is not the best too. he's probably been like that for maybe 7months - 2years(though somehow he knows/ recognizes us, which is confusing and doesn't go with the timeline), you can very clearly hear his voice box and heavy breathing. Plus, the ruined critters might be spying on us from the very second we entered the play house, the line "right now, there's a million pairs of eyes on you, watching, waiting..." they were waiting for the right time to strike. And after his chase sequence, you can hear the ruined critters screaming, they knew Catnap will kill them as they failed to kill the player.
So, in conclusion, DogDay is absolutely dead, and he wont be coming back. Catnap is horrible and killed the ruined critters. DogDay is one of my fav characters so the sadness and horror i felt when saw them laughing and tearing and eating his organs apart ast hey simultaneously tore his voice box is absolutely insane. R.I.P DogDay.
Another peculiar subtlety I noticed is how expressive and lively each of the critters look on the title card and in their cutouts. Compared to CatNap, who looks more static and still. There’s also the fact that each of them are waving to the viewers except for CatNap.
when dogday screams in the cardboard cutout, you can hear his legs being ripped off and drop to the ground. This is why his scream is longe.

Definitely true even though poppy said we killed him we didn't see his body like ripped in half or anything
Personally i think he died since we saw all the blood splatters as he hit the pipes all the way down, and maybe the prototype used part of his body for something. Idk what would be beneficial for the prototype, maybe since huggy is the security guard essentially, he has good vision/night vision? Or his teeth would definitely be great for ripping things apart but we dont know what the prototype looks like and if huggy would even be essential to him. He does say ill hug you until you pop so maybe he has really strong arms but that's most likely not to be taken literally, plus the prototype already has that arm weve seen a couple times now and i dont think huggy's arm can beat that. Mommy longlegs would be more beneficial since shes elastic and he could reach more things if he used her limbs. Theres a lot to consider and a lot to revisit, but it would definitely be hard for huggy to survive a fall that violent. Hopefully all our questions will be answered in the next couple years as they release lore on their youtube channel and the next chapter releases
There was also some video or short I can't remember that showed blue for a few blood splats on the wall of when you have to do the bunso toy in chapter 2 like you see some blue fur and blood going down and then I think there's a little bit of blood by vent that's just my hopes I do kind of hope he's alive

Wait… does catnaps gas work on himself? That could be a reason he’s evil. He makes everyone go to sleep and go through violent nightmares, and he can’t go through it with them. He world probably be traumatized knowing HE was the reason they suffered these nightmares.
Dogday might actually be the same size as catnap. Someone took the in game models and put them sized by side.
I’ve seen videos of models and they are definitely not the same size

Someone took the models out of the game and compared their height. Same arm length and if DD had his legs, he would be just as tall as catnap.

Actually,all the smiling critters have a sleep fog, it’s just that catnaps fog gives nightmares
One thing I'm definitely curious about is how intertwined the smiling critters show is to the actual world of Poppyplaytime. I mean Dogday seems to think that he's still a part of the show (as in he keeps perfect character and believes the smiling critters were always real), but then Theodore knew about the prototype even in the show's universe and followed him despite the prototype not being a part of the show most likely. I'm really just wondering, how does Theodore and the person in Dogday's backstory/personalities work? Are they canon to the show, or have they always been in the 'real world' , Ik Theodore was real, but then wouldn't that make Catnap a separate character from his, same with Dogday?

Guys .I found a theory that says. What If hoppy (the rabbit in the smiling critters was actually trying to help dog day escape. Since she said "dont look at your feet. This isn't important" then she said "jump. Jump" while the falling in somthing deep

anyone notice that the position that dogday is laying in the cartoon after catnap is sitting on the couch is very reminiscent to that of how we find him chained up and missing his lower half? Wonder if that was ment to be foreshadowing from the devs

DogDay needs some respect after he lost his legs, plus CatNap is not evil, bc every monster was nice before the hour of joy. it's prototype's fault for this... CatNap didnt deserve to die
