I absolutely love that, because Star Wars has always been hugely inspired by both samurai movies and westerns. It's a perfect example of how the showrunners of The Mandalorian really understand the source material and know how to do Star Wars right.
12:10 - Ahsoka was born in 36 BBY. ( The "BY" meaning the Battle of Yavin, the destruction of the first Death Star) "The Mandalorian" season 2 is around 10 ABY, so Ahsoka is about 45 or 46. Grogu was 50 when Mando found him, so Ahsoka is 5 or 6 years younger. What puzzled me as I first watched this episode is why Ahsoka didn't recognize Grogu (beyond his species) if they were both in the training program at the same time. It led me to believe, at the time, that perhaps Grogu was put in a special training arrangement, separate from the other younglings, perhaps because of his species unusual development over time. 17:24 - yeah, that was a lothcat. You may recall there was one in a previous episode snarling at Grogu. 21:46 - Tython is seen in the MMO video game "Star Wars: The Old Republic". The story is set centuries before this, and Tython is the initial training planet for Jedi in the game. 22:10 - I know of about a dozen Jedi whose fate was not revealed at the time of this episode, except that they survived Order 66 and went into hiding, or were so far removed from the Empire as to not be effective in the final years of the Rebellion. But as the overall Star Wars story unfolds, we're all the time discovering ones new to us. Kanan Jarus and Ezra Bridger were two of these latter ones, and Ezra's story reveals that a few new Jedi were being secretly trained, so who knows what Jedi might hear the call?
One of the many, many things I love with how they're building the Mando series is Djn being a little out of his depth every time he bumps up against the bigger Star Wars stories going on in the Galaxy. For him he's duelling a Jedi, forming a partnership that's borderline unthinkable and presenting a solution to an unsolvable problem. Meanwhile Ahsoka's just casually ticking off her to-do list for the day, setting aside an hour or so to go liberate a town and isn't even close to her limits throughout the episode. Oh and of course he just had to say that 'they'll never see it coming' line to the one Jedi who *literally liberated Mandaloer*.
Our villain the Magistrate is the god daughter of Bruce Lee in real life and this ep was released on what would have been Bruce's 80th birthday, she was thrilled about that.
Hi Emme!🙂Grogu is about 52 years old. We know Yoda started teaching the Jedi when he was about 100 years old. This might mark an age of maturity for the species. The guy Mando fights is an older Michael Bien, known from "Aliens" and "The Terminator". Great reactions to the fifth episode of this season, Emme!!!🎬👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽Only 3 more episodes this season!
It's heavily-implied that Ashoka is 14ish when we first meet her in "The Clone Wars" movie, and somewhere around the 17/18 threshold during Order 66 (the war lasting around 3-and-a-half years). Order 66 was 19 years before "A New Hope," and "Return of the Jedi" is 4 years after that. "The Mandalorian" seasons 1 and 2 have been said to take place 5 years after ROTJ, so, that puts us 28 years after Order 66, making Ashoka roughly 46 here. Since Togruta (Ashoka's species) seem to age at roughly the same rate as humans, and Rosario Dawson was about 41 during the filming of this episode, that all follows.
Indeed, Togruta have an average lifespan of about 80 years, pretty good for a species and culture that revolve around hunting, and as a fun fact, being attuned to the force affects some species on a physical level, and in the case of the Togruta it causes them to live much longer, one was known to have lived to be at least 200, plus who knows what effect The Daughter's life force might have on Ahsoka in particular.
The last 4 episodes of this season may be the best story in television. The writing, acting, themes, action, fan service.....I'm really looking forward to you experiencing what is coming.
Fun fact: the Magistrate lady is Diana Lee Inosanto, the goddaughter of the famous martial artist and actor Bruce Lee. She is also set to reappear in the Ahsoka series.
It's awesome seeing you so excited about this. Sharing our passion for Star Wars with each other just keeps rejuvenating it. 🤗 The only reason this is not the best episode of The Mandalorian is there are (at least) two or three others that are equally as great. And that is a very, very good thing.
Healing through the force is Canon before and during the old republic it was used, but after a while the Jedi stopped using it because, according to them, it disrupted the very cycle of life. And for example, force healing was used in other similar situations by the Siths, Nightsisters of Dathomir,... For example, even Palpatine used it on Anakin during episode 3 on Mustafar when he found him. And yes, Padmé died of broken heart syndrome. It also exists in real life because after the death of the actress Leya, her mother died of it. ;(
@@bigyetter I know it was something similar. And i think it is strong theory that Palpatine manipulate and was taken medichronians from Padme to Vader to keep him stabile. 🤔
I rememver when this episode came out I was in the hospital recovering from my Scolioses surgery and I couldn't help but cry the entire time. So many call backs to previous Star Wars content and the beginning of an exciting new adventure with Din Djarin and Grogu.
A really cool fun fact about this episode is that Morgan Elsbeth is a Dathomirian Witch, a Nightsister. Shes the same species as Ventress, Merrin from the jedi games, and Maul. She doesnt do much in this episode but in the new trailer for ahsoka we see her using her magicks and that's very exciting to me.
It's funny how when I watch this episode again I had forgotten that people didn't know the name Grogu until this point. Since I have had knowledge that the name was Grogu for so long it feels like I had known the name Grogu since season 1 and that's how Ahsoka vocalized it too, she said Grogu to Mando as if she assumed he knew his name was Grogu and it was like "of course his name is Grogu, surely you knew that?!"
The Magistrate was played by Diana Lee Inosanto, the daughter of Dan Inosanto. She is a talented martial artist as well as being an actress. IIRC she's choreographed many scenes. Don't know if you want to see it, but the latest trailer for the live action Ashoka Tano series is out.
Magistrate = Morgan Elsbeth here from Jedi Mandalorian Episode 2 and the Ahsoka series is the daughter of Nightsister who left Dathomir long before Grevous killed the entire tribe in the Clone Wars.
I believe this episode takes place just before Ahsoka meets up with Sabine in that final scene of Rebels. She got the information from Morgan Elsbeth on Thrawn/Ezra’s whereabouts.
I always liked this show. But it went next level for me starting with this episode and this season's finale took my breath away. Emme is in for a real treat.
Not Claire from Daredevil utterly killing it as Ahsoka! I can't wait until her show comes out!!! Also, I need fan art of Darth Grogu in Beskar armor and a black Sith robe! 😅
Seeing your speechless reaction wasn't a surprise. :) Diving right in with an Ahsoka's reveal and ending with the Thrawn name drop. This was some episode. The first couple of times I watched this, I didnt notice the Morai Force Owl. Good catch! :)
Ezra: "When you return, come and find me" Ahsoka is keeping her promise to Ezra Bridger (as we already saw in the Rebels Epilogue) I think you might have forgotten that by finding Thrawn she would also probably find Ezra... ... but Ashoka is clever enough to know that Thrawn is probably way easier to find so she looks for Thrawn instead of Ezra directly
12:10 Assuming The Mandalorian seasons 1 and 2 take place roughly in 9ABY (After Battle of Yavin, or 9 years after Episode IV: A New Hope and 5 years after Episode VI: Return of the Jedi), Ahsoka would be 41, give or take a year.
Morgan Elsbeth had information about a certain individual that Ahsoka was interested in pursuing. Helping the villagers at the same time was serendipitous. 😅
Ahsokas head tails are called Lekku if you are curious. They are suppose to be alot longer as shown on Ahsoka in Rebels and other adult Togruta but the prostetic that they originally made for her was just to cumbersome and it was next to impossible for Rosario Dawson to do anything physical with it on. I think it was fine to shorten them down for practical reasons, she still looks and feels like Ahsoka and that is all that really matters.
Assuming 25-30 years since the Jedi Temple fell, Grogu would have been 20-25 years old then. Assuming Ahsoka was around 15-20 when Annakin fell, Ahsoka would be 40-50 now.
Jedi Master Adi Gallia wielded this lightsaber during her time as a Jedi Knight and possessed it after she was made a Jedi Master and eventually a member on the Jedi High Council, wielding it on many battlefronts, including Troiken in the Stark Hyperspace War in 44 BBY and the galaxy-wide conflict known as the Clone Wars in 22 BBY until her murder by Savage Opress on Florrum in 20 BBY.
Easily the BEST episode in the entire series so far. As if Akira Kurosawa had directed an episode of Star Wars. Also my favorite Mando episode. By far.
Absolutely loved watching this reaction! It's really fun seeing how much you liked it, and how you picked up on many of the things I did on my first watch as well. Plus, you saw Ahsoka's bird Morai too! Loving all your star wars content so far :)
Every second of the intro, of you saying i hope this and that, about Ahsoka was so nerve wracking. 😅 Btw. That was Michael Biehn. Not sure if spelled correctly. He was in Terminator and Aliens if you recall.
10:23 a toy is an attachment and Ashoka wouldn’t do that if he’s to be a Jedi. 11:35 they said in Season 1 Episode 1 that the target was 50 yrs old. 12:07 technically Ashoka isn’t a Jedi. Ashoka is between 40 & 45 years old. In this series. It would be cool to find out what exactly happened to Grogu between Episode 3 & this series. They do tell us more in Season 3 but not enough in my opinion. The funny thing about Baby Yoda’s name and a lots of people had trouble with it. 15:36 something happened prior to Episode 1 and after Episode 1 Kenobi had started fixing relationships with the Mandalorians (or at least part of the group). 17:02 Ashoka is continuing he plan from the end of Rebels. 17:32 yes I believe that was a Lothcat. 20:27 this episode is helping setup the “Ashoka” series just like seeing Boba Fett walking around and seeing his suit in episode 1 is setting up “The Book of Boba”. 21:52 Ashoka didn’t break her promise with Mando. He said that he would help her if she made sure he was trained and that’s what she’s doing by sending him to find a different Jedi.
Ahsoka was at first underestimating her opponent in the duel. As we clearly see her change to her own usual fighting style after losing one of her sabers. Shows that if she had fought like she usually does from the start it wouldn't have been much of a duel, one can of course say it was all about luring the opponent into a false sense of security (Obi Wan's favourite teachings)
Mandalorians are the historic enemy of jedis that’s why they wear Beskar, have jetpacks and extensive weaponry. Ahsoka would probably beat Mando in a fight but I wouldn’t write him off so quickly when his culture stems from killing jedis
Remember in the very first episode of season 1, they mention that he is 50 years old. Remember that the Yoda species ages much slower that humans. Yoda was 900 when he died.
Remember the last episode of the season 2 of Rebels. "I'm no jedi"... Ahsoka is not a jedi anymore since the season 5 of Clone Wars. She is still a force user, but not a member of the jedi order...
It's probably just me being delusional, but whenever I carry my 13 lb. Havanese puppy (Chewbacca Binary-DeSolo) with me in her little travel satchel, I envision myself as Mando and Chewie as Grogu. I'm sure I'm nowhere nearly as cool and mysterious a Din Djarin, but Chewie is truly as adorable as Grogu.
So many had no idea who she was because they dismissed the animated shows as only really for kids or they were more enticed by live action. Also good eye. You saw the owl. And I believe Ahsoka is 45 here
Let’s just say you’re going to absolutely LOVE the Ahsoka show when it comes out (August 23rd) I’d love to see your reaction to the trailer that came out a couple weeks ago, but it’s understandable if you want to finish up Mando first (and maybe the Book of Boba Fett. It’s not particularly connected except for a couple episodes, and the pacing is a bit off, but still a cool show).
Season 2 of Mando is probably some of the best Star Wars, and while this episode had everyone screaming crying throwing up (in a good way), I wish I could watch the next three for the first time again ❤❤
Ashoka’s no Jedi, by her own declaration. I think the title is a reference to the Jedi as a whole. Also could be how people are gonna refer to her, regardless of her wishes. I love how even the episode names can be thought provoking or have multiple meanings.
Ahsoka had an eastern duel while Mando had a western one - the best moment of the show to me.
I never thought about it like that lmao
With Johnny Ringo of all people. He’s no daisy…lol
Wow I love that parallel. Never thought of that

The quintessential Mando ep! Directed & written by Filoni. The cinematography, stylistic direction, action, pacing, performances perfect!
Second best, I would say. Season 2 finale takes the cake for me.
Edit: I don't know why you got 13 copies of the same reply, but I fixed it.
Hearing Ashoka's theme weaved in throughout the episode always makes me really emotional. Amazing episode.

YEP, WE GET BOTH ASKHOA AND THAWRN ON AUG 23 AND I HAVE GOING NUTS WAITING BECAUSE THAWRN. IS MY PERSONAL FAV CHARACTER OF ALL STAR WARS
Thanks, Emme! 🔶 Now you know his name!!! #EmmeReacts #StarWars #TheMandalorian #Grogu
Season 2 of Mando is probably some of the best Star Wars, and while this episode had everyone screaming crying throwing up (in a good way), I wish I could watch the next three for the first time again ❤❤
that's a cool Shingeky T-shirt :D
Please do not skip Book of Boba Fett. I don't think you will, but PLEASE don't.
Ashoka’s no Jedi, by her own declaration. I think the title is a reference to the Jedi as a whole. Also could be how people are gonna refer to her, regardless of her wishes. I love how even the episode names can be thought provoking or have multiple meanings.
She's enough of a Jedi for Order 66 to apply to her.
Hi, love your levi shirt and your reaction!Need you to react more of these!
This is the basis for the ahsoka show
Not sure why Ahsoka didn't just telekenetically disable the bad guy during their duel.
Glad to this is so new for you.
