I love the footage of Philippa Schuyler! There needs to be a documentary film or a biopic made about her life. She has such a fascinating and accomplished yet tragic life. In 2004, it was reported that Alicia Keys would portray her in a biopic but that was shelved.
I appreciate this news reel. I can't help but notice that the majority of those chosen to be representatives of the best and brightest among us were fairer-skinned, to the degree that, in some cases, you could not actually tell that they were black. No judgment; just something I noticed.
No doubt many of these people were important figures in Black historical achievements whose work and influence still benefit and inspire us today. Obviously, it's apparent the less-than-subtle propaganda/programming from the White America of that era (which was simply a continuation of tactics used by them since the colonizing and founding of the country) to condition the minds of enslaved Africans to perceive the mixed/lighter-skinned among them as better than the darker among them. In this film, it's clear that in various fields of science/academia, most of the highlighted were all light-skinned (and some almost indistinguishable of being perceived as Black), while the darker-skinned ones were mostly in the fields of entertainment, which would send a divisive message to Black people of that time of what they should probably try to aspire to be based on how much melanin they had and would be celebrated for by America's [first-class] citizens and power structure. Also extremely ironic (though certainly intentional on the filmmaker's part) to listen to Ralph Bunche's U.N.-promoting speech that spoke of "peace", the progress of "civilization & mankind where all are free", and where "racial & religious bigotries are eliminated", just as the film also mentioned the "bloody war in Palestine"...and yet you see what all transpired since that speech, 68 years later, where Palestine is in a state of apartheid because of Israel, where you an African country can't even help the world by identifying a variant of a global virus without being penalized for it with international travel bans against them along with their neighboring countries, and an America where the descendants and compatriots of these celebrated "negro" figures have still not achieved equal status with its first-class citizens so that all would only be recognized as simply citizens. I don't normally comment on this channel's videos (if I did I'd probably have enough content for a book, honestly lol), but I certainly am grateful to this channel because these videos are archival goldmines and truly a reflection of the word/concept SANKOFA. It's great to have a window into the past to understand what we experienced then to understand what we are and experience now in the present to then be able to see what we can fix to progress in the future for our people throughout the diaspora. Sorry for the essay lol

Imagine how many of our people would rather watch a lot of foolishness on other black social media outlets than to gain a wealth of knowledge and inspiration from what this specific media has to offer, under many genres of information and entertainment. The narrator is disgusting for the following reasons. Listen to some of his words: " Outstanding representative of the race" "representative of his race" These desscriptions are so condescending. Why not say the human race or humanity or better yet, not mention race at all. It reminds me of Dick Cavett telling Suger Ray Leonard that he is a credit to his race. I also heard Don Rickles ( whose comedy I enjoyed ) say the same thing to Redd Foxx on one of the Dean Martin roasts. When a white person accomplishes something worthwhile no one says that he/ she is a credit to his/her race ........ and that's the way it should be for all peoples.
