If they can somehow get cinema resolutions into a cheap to package format there will definitely be more. But of course at the tail end of physical media being available that most likely won’t happen.
There's one thing you didn't mention, Kino finally corrected a past major issue with their 2017 release and that's they FINALLY include the correct international cut, the 2017 disk tried to replicate it but did a poor job, shots were still missing and others were there that weren't supposed to be. For the missing shots they scanned a 35mm print and color corrected it and they took out the other shots that weren't supposed to be there.
Actually, I think the audio is a huge upgrade. The original mono track is much cleaner than the previous blu-ray, and the 5.1 remix seems to be much more faithful to the original track than the previous 5.1 one which has a lot of sound effects redone.
I watched this on celluloid at a theater about fifteen years ago. Good memories. It's sweet to get this at home, and I'm sure this is the best home movie release yet of GB&U, but there's nothing like the big screen for these widescreen epics. Luckily I have a projector, but it's my screen's still not 40 feet wide!
Glad to hear it's still a worthy buy despite no HDR. It's my all time favorite movie so I immediately pre-ordered it as soon as it was announced. And if a better 4K comes along with HDR and Dolby Atmos, I'm ok with buying it again.

Great info. Thanks. It was film in 'Techniscope' which filmed half the 35mm negative and then squeezed and blown-up to full-frame 35, so the image can never be as sharp as a full-frame 35mm filmed in Panavision. But it's looking good now.
Big thing about this release for me is that it includes the Theatrical Cut, as I far prefer that to the extended cut, which I feel broke up the pacing of the movie, and has been the only version available for some time now.

It was originally the extended cut, but Kino ended up doing a poll on FB asking fans which version they wanted. Fans picked theatrical. So 4K is theatrical and the included blu has the extended. The scenes from the extended version are also available on the 4K disc in 4K resolution, they've just been relegated to the deleted scenes special feature section.

Well, as a still photographer for decades I know that photographers will go to great lengths to photograph during the golden hour around sunset and sunrise. This gives the color photographs a golden (yellow) glow. Perhaps the filmmakers made a conscious decision to use a film stock that rendered the intense desert sunlight with a golden hue? I don't know if they are still alive, but maybe they said so in the past? Or maybe it was degradation of the original film master that gave it the golden tint. I don't know. My point is, just because a certain move has a tint to it, it doesn't mean it was a mistake. A lot of filmmakers film for a certain color saturation. Sometimes they even switch the color of the tint for different scenes. So, let's not alter the filmmakers original intention just because we think something is wrong.

Anyone who looks at the caps-a-holic link you left in your description will see you didn't use their 4K shots because they weren't uploaded yet, so you used the Mondo Blu-ray and called it the new transfer. Your spam filter ate it, but I posted a link to the same shot from the 1080p disc in this set.

No mention of the fact that this is the first time the proper ORIGINAL INTERNATIONAL CUT has been available? Also, the mono sound is improved as it's sourced from a different master with better quality. The reason they didn't do HDR is because the source they were working with was SDR so it wouldn't add any dynamic range at all.
Well, the theatrical cut had been available on the very first DVD from 98/99. But never remastered at this level of course. The reason they didn't use HDR is because the negative as it is wasn't the best to use HDR on, it would overblow the contrast from what I read a technician explain in a review
@@andresvergara3095 Actually that version was not the true theatrical cut it had some missing shots and reordered shots during one sequence. So this is the first time since the early 90s laserdisc that we are getting the true theatrical cut. The source they were using was a SDR 4K master with baked in colour grading. They did not have access to the original negative for this. Granted, the SDR master was made from the negative so it has nice clarity and no generational degradation but because it was mastered in SDR doing an HDR grade while fixing the colours would not add anything. HDR doesn't "overblow" the contrast. A colorist still needs to sit behind a monitor and do a colour correction, it's not an automated process. HDR is just more colour bits and dynamic range to work with while grading and it can be used on any film negative no matter what the state of it is. A good example is how Django has just had an HDR 4K release and looks great. If Kino did a brand new scan from the negative with all new restoration work (which would cost a hell of a lot) then they for sure would have done an HDR mastering.
@@samreid9106 Thank you for expanding on this, I did mean the Scan (not the Negative) was not optimal for HDR...although I have also heard some negatives don't look as well with HDR, not sure where that comes from. It still doesn't make a lot of sense not doing a new scan when they are able to afford new scans for something like Django (Arrow) but not for TGTBU?? Arguably one of the "biggest" movies in history as with many other films...or would MGM not let them rather?

Criterion actually lost the bid on this so you can imagine the price tag. Maybe one day we’ll get one but this is definitely a lot closer to perfection than ever before.
@@samreid9106 Hey Sam, I just watched first time the 4K UHD today (was super lucky to find a copy earlier this week!). Overall I was really marveled at so many levels on how beautiful so many shots look and for the first time looking much more clean and stunning. That being said I do feel like this version evidence quite a bit of disparity in quality for different shots which I think this is where the rabbit whole probably gets quite deep. There's a lot of shots were you don't really know if the shot is slightly out of focus naturally (many at the torture scene with Angel Eyes for example and others) or is it ths a matter of the actual negative that needs better restoration or a better scan in some parts...then again you can see some shots looking picture perfect (many of the landscape shots), so It makes me wonder how much room for improvement can be done to ever make this picture closer to perfect. Maybe it just wasn't the best shot movie ever as I've heard some suggest? My theory is they didn't make a Director's Cut version so they might revisit it in the future with a new scan. So although I super enjoyed it, i wonder how much better can it really get.
I think its a pretty bizarre decision to only remaster in SDR, when HDR/WCG is one of the big selling points and upgrades from BR. With it also not having an Atmos upgrade as much as I love this film I think I will pass on buying it, at least until it is in a sale. Maybe if there is a lack of interest or a big enough outcry to this they will offer a HDR version like Funmation did with the recent Akira 4K release.
Dude, they finally tracked down and put in the original, uncompressed Mono track for the first time in over 30 years and you want Dolby Atmos? Mixing a surround sound track from mono is extremely hard and costly and would not be representative of Leone’s vision.
I wish mine would ship. I preordered it a week ahead of release and Amazon STILL hasn't shipped it. Amazon is hit and miss with preorders. It seems they struggle to comprehend "release day delivery"---- I guess it's "release month delivery" (if I'm lucky).

I heard from another reviewer that this 4K version is not the extended version. I’m keeping my blu ray version I purchased last year . I’m still picking this up .
Believe it or not, not too long ago I picked up a 2007 - 2 disc - DVD release of a MGM remastering of "The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly" at a local Half Price Books for a few bucks. I already had an older DVD version and I always thought the picture quality just wasn't shot that good, but this new remastering on this DVD, back in 2007, was absolutely stunning. The color almost looked like technicolor and the picture quality and color was pristine, yellow tint was non existent, it almost looked like I was watching a high quality, newly remastered Blu-Ray. I was really impressed, even in the DVD format. This one was far superior to the 2014 Blu-Ray remaster which I have also. Who would have thunk it!
I thought the tint on the 2014 Blu Ray looked really ugly, so I am glad to hear the color is improved (the main reason I was looking forward to the 4K). I have a question though: in the 4K screenshots you showed, it looked more “zoomed in” or cropped or something. Did they change the aspect ratio/crop the picture for the 4K? Or did it just appear like that due to the method you used to take the screenshots of the 4K?
hey jeff I truly love your channel I am a huge film buff I actually went to film school in North Hollywood I live there and i collect myself but only films i really love not just films in general but i have seen well over 2000 films and its good to see people who support physical media , every film have is in the best print that i can find , slip cover transfer etc, i have many Us films that i have bought from Europe simply because the transfer is better as well as the packaging, I also have lots of blu rays in dvd casing just because i think it looks so much better, different colors etc, sorry for the rambling just wanted to say its awesome what you do and i def support the chanel and physical media, I actually just bought a rare lentecular south korea copy of casino brad new the art work is stunning it came with tangers poker chips , booklet , cards etc, and i always try to collect the orginal mgm dvd prints of films with the cases because those are trasures and it short supply they were the best...
Yes, bummer about no HDR... BUT it’s the best version of the movie so far... and original theatrical mono soundtrack option. ( not a lossy mix of a watered down 5.1) Maybe one day there will be even a better way to view this movie... but it sounds as though this 4k is it for now and that’s good enough for me :) “You’re not diggin’...”

hey, i got the 2014 Blu ray and for me it looks fantastic, except for all the scenes with english text on screen like "the good" "the bad" "the ugly" "the end", ya know? it looks like they made the restauration from the original italian negative but every time english text is written on screen it probably comes from a bad US print because the quality is A LOT worse. i got as i said the 2014 blu ray version (european realese), is this also like this in the new realeses?

Many, many thanks for your informative & in depth review of my all time no.1 fav movie, i do have my copy on its way, & although i have many copies of "The Good, the bad & the ugly" its pleasing that color scheme is a improvement on previous blu ray releases. I agree its shocking that big studios did not get involved in this epic movie with a higher quality release when you compare that other classics that have got a ultimate 4K transfer, a far improvement is a worthy purchase in my eyes, great work Sir !
As someone in the UK, it's disappointing that this hasn't gotten a UK release in 4K. Would have considered importing if it had HDR but to not put that on there when it's one of the main selling points of 4K is unforgiveable. Thanks for the review, Jeff!

No HDR is better than bad HDR. I sit 7.5’ from a 10’ wide scope screen so the added detail makes it worth the cost for me. Improved color is icing on the cake.

Does this release have the theatrical cut on both the 4K and the Blu-ray? I don't have a 4K setup but would be interested in it if the Blu-ray was the theatrical release as well. I have the older Blu-ray trilogy that I think is the extended release (I'll have to check my copy).
Just bought this, hope it's a good transfer. Seriously one of the best movies of all time. I have The Man With No Name trilogy on bluray but recently got a Bravia 4k OLED. Trying to think of must own movies and this one came to mind.
Honest question, and I don't want this to be read as snarky, but when you say the colours are "corrected but it still has moments and it's not perfect," what are you basing that off? Personal taste, reference material?
Why have they changed the gun sounds compared to the old version that I have seen on VHS? It doesn´t sound real for me. I have the 2009 version on Blu-ray.
I didn’t think it was much of an upgrade over any of the Blu Rays I have. If the colour bugs me I’ll adjust my tv. It wasn’t like..oh, it’s sharper or has deeper colours.
I don’t think HDR is necessary on all 4K UHD films. TGTBATU was shot in Techniscope. It’s a 2 perf process. It uses only 2 perforations of the 4 perf 35MM camera negative. Once complete, Technicolor would make an anamorphic dye transfer 4 perf print of the 2 perf. It’s essentially, like a Super 16 blow up to 35MM. The blacks are very black and grainy during scenes with low light levels. HDR would probably make those scenes too dark. HDR is great but it can be an issue at times, hence Forrest Gump.
Is the 2014 version the same as the 2009 version? What about the version that was included in the Man With No Name Trilogy in 2010? I had no idea there was such a huge variation between versions, and I'm curious about those versions.
No, the 2009 version had a very different color grade that was far more cool. However, it suffered from heavy DNR. This was the version that was included in the Man With No Name Trilogy in 2010.
@@michaelmcbrd8 I have that "Trilogy" set from 2010, with the extended version. I have no problems at all with the coloring, and the DNR didn't bother me at all. I won't be upgrading to the new 4k version.
@@haukionkannel 30 years? I doubt there will even be physical media in 30 years. Naw, probably more like 3 years to come out with a more optimized HDR version. I think they deliberately make sub-optimal versions of movies in the beginning so that people repurchase the same movie over and over. And after it is optimized, they change the format entirely. There is no excuse for having a noticeable color shift in a digital version of a movie. They are laughing all the way to the bank.

I would like to tell you the 2009 is good enough because I also have it, but of course the UHD is superior in almost every way possible picture and audio wise. It's the best this movie has ever looked only beneath well preserved 35MM prints in a movie theatre

Thanks. Just ordered it. I prefer the theatrical cut over the extended version. Also, while I haven't fired it yet, I own a cartridge conversion replica of Tuco's Colt 1851 Navy, which is the same pistol that Blondi carries. Difference is Blondi's pistol has snakes on the grips and Tuco's doesn't.
Your 4K grabs are not matching what I see on dvdbeaver. I think you posted the italian blu-ray image by accident and labeled it 4K. I don't know how you made that mistake, but that is definitely the Italian Blu-ray in the grab at 3:30.
I have the 2010 'The Man with No Name Trilogy' box. I'm very pleased with it. Yellow-ish or not - I don't believe the upgrade is worth it. I don't even have a 4K TV. I have a Sharp Quattron Pro 2K, 60" purchased in Japan - my opinion, just as good as 4K. Bottomline: It's all about the quality of the movie - picture quality come second.

It’s the laser disc mono soundtrack put on this 4k release which is the theatrical version or near as dammit! The other soundtrack the 5.1 on this is an upmix. There’s no HDR because it would have made the picture worse because the 2014 4k remaster by the Italian company ritrovata didn’t do a particularly good job on that hence it can’t have HDR without it looking worse. Kino didn’t do a new 4k Master they colour corrected the existing one! How do you not know this? If you’re gonna do a video you need to do your homework Jeff! Stop with the misleading information and the lack of. And by deleting comments that call you out isn’t on!
If this sell Well... maybe. If this sell badly... not likely! They will release them one by one. If previous sell Well enough. They make the next. If not. This will end here. If all three will be released, there is bigger chance of the box set release eventually. They just have to add one extra blue ray with some features that you can not get from the individualistit disks and you can sell the whole set again to some biggest collectors! Profit ;)
I certainly don’t Mind the extended nature of the 2009 blu ray and found its colour to be better than the 2014 or 2017. I wonder if this new 4k is similar in colour to the 2009 blu ray. This is a must by for me.
I'll wait for a 4K HDR trilogy box set. I'll hate myself if I get 4 versions of this movie on blu-ray if i buy this and the inevitable 4K HDR trilogy box set.
There is very small chance that this will get hdr version any soon... We may see the rest of the trilogy but are they hdr or not is completelly unknown. Hopefully at least some will be hdr... but maybe all will be released at sdr because it is cheaper to edit that way?
I hope Kino puts out Fistful of Dollars and Few Dollars More next in 4K.

The September 2009 Blu-ray of this movie was great too, this 4K is slightly better in resolution but more or less the same in color timing.

I bought the blu-ray from dollar tree for a $1, last year! I don't rewatch this movie that much so, I'm fine with that!

@@andresvergara3095 you’re welcome. Yeah who knows why it could be the case where it’s such a long movie it would require a lot of man hours plus the licensing fees from MGM are probably very high. Criterion actually lost the bid on this so you can imagine the price tag.
Maybe one day we’ll get one but this is definitely a lot closer to perfection than ever before.
@@samreid9106 Hey Sam, I just watched first time the 4K UHD today (was super lucky to find a copy earlier this week!). Overall I was really marveled at so many levels on how beautiful so many shots look and for the first time looking much more clean and stunning. That being said I do feel like this version evidence quite a bit of disparity in quality for different shots which I think this is where the rabbit whole probably gets quite deep. There's a lot of shots were you don't really know if the shot is slightly out of focus naturally (many at the torture scene with Angel Eyes for example and others) or is it ths a matter of the actual negative that needs better restoration or a better scan in some parts...then again you can see some shots looking picture perfect (many of the landscape shots), so It makes me wonder how much room for improvement can be done to ever make this picture closer to perfect. Maybe it just wasn't the best shot movie ever as I've heard some suggest? My theory is they didn't make a Director's Cut version so they might revisit it in the future with a new scan. So although I super enjoyed it, i wonder how much better can it really get.
I think its a pretty bizarre decision to only remaster in SDR, when HDR/WCG is one of the big selling points and upgrades from BR. With it also not having an Atmos upgrade as much as I love this film I think I will pass on buying it, at least until it is in a sale.
Maybe if there is a lack of interest or a big enough outcry to this they will offer a HDR version like Funmation did with the recent Akira 4K release.
Kino is a really small label. HDR grading monitors are expressive as hell.
FUNimation messed up. Their release was supposed to be HDR, it's not that they decided not to do it.
Dude, they finally tracked down and put in the original, uncompressed Mono track for the first time in over 30 years and you want Dolby Atmos? Mixing a surround sound track from mono is extremely hard and costly and would not be representative of Leone’s vision.

I wish mine would ship. I preordered it a week ahead of release and Amazon STILL hasn't shipped it. Amazon is hit and miss with preorders. It seems they struggle to comprehend "release day delivery"---- I guess it's "release month delivery" (if I'm lucky).

I heard from another reviewer that this 4K version is not the extended version. I’m keeping my blu ray version I purchased last year . I’m still picking this up .

Believe it or not, not too long ago I picked up a 2007 - 2 disc - DVD release of a MGM remastering of "The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly" at a local Half Price Books for a few bucks. I already had an older DVD version and I always thought the picture quality just wasn't shot that good, but this new remastering on this DVD, back in 2007, was absolutely stunning. The color almost looked like technicolor and the picture quality and color was pristine, yellow tint was non existent, it almost looked like I was watching a high quality, newly remastered Blu-Ray. I was really impressed, even in the DVD format. This one was far superior to the 2014 Blu-Ray remaster which I have also. Who would have thunk it!
The 2009/2010 blu-ray version included in the "Trilogy" set is incredible as well. I won't be upgrading to a 4K version.
I thought the tint on the 2014 Blu Ray looked really ugly, so I am glad to hear the color is improved (the main reason I was looking forward to the 4K). I have a question though: in the 4K screenshots you showed, it looked more “zoomed in” or cropped or something. Did they change the aspect ratio/crop the picture for the 4K? Or did it just appear like that due to the method you used to take the screenshots of the 4K?

hey jeff I truly love your channel I am a huge film buff I actually went to film school in North Hollywood I live there and i collect myself but only films i really love not just films in general but i have seen well over 2000 films and its good to see people who support physical media , every film have is in the best print that i can find , slip cover transfer etc, i have many Us films that i have bought from Europe simply because the transfer is better as well as the packaging, I also have lots of blu rays in dvd casing just because i think it looks so much better, different colors etc, sorry for the rambling just wanted to say its awesome what you do and i def support the chanel and physical media, I actually just bought a rare lentecular south korea copy of casino brad new the art work is stunning it came with tangers poker chips , booklet , cards etc, and i always try to collect the orginal mgm dvd prints of films with the cases because those are trasures and it short supply they were the best...
Yes, bummer about no HDR... BUT it’s the best version of the movie so far... and original theatrical mono soundtrack option. ( not a lossy mix of a watered down 5.1)
Maybe one day there will be even a better way to view this movie... but it sounds as though this 4k is it for now and that’s good enough for me :)

hey, i got the 2014 Blu ray and for me it looks fantastic, except for all the scenes with english text on screen like "the good" "the bad" "the ugly" "the end", ya know? it looks like they made the restauration from the original italian negative but every time english text is written on screen it probably comes from a bad US print because the quality is A LOT worse. i got as i said the 2014 blu ray version (european realese), is this also like this in the new realeses?

No. It's the U.S. theatrical cut recreation, or as close to it as can be done.

Many, many thanks for your informative & in depth review of my all time no.1 fav movie, i do have my copy on its way, & although i have many copies of "The Good, the bad & the ugly" its pleasing that color scheme is a improvement on previous blu ray releases. I agree its shocking that big studios did not get involved in this epic movie with a higher quality release when you compare that other classics that have got a ultimate 4K transfer, a far improvement is a worthy purchase in my eyes, great work Sir !
There is reversible artwork for this release which looks better than the "poster" artwork, and the slipcover is only for the first 5000 units.

As someone in the UK, it's disappointing that this hasn't gotten a UK release in 4K. Would have considered importing if it had HDR but to not put that on there when it's one of the main selling points of 4K is unforgiveable. Thanks for the review, Jeff!

No HDR is better than bad HDR. I sit 7.5’ from a 10’ wide scope screen so the added detail makes it worth the cost for me. Improved color is icing on the cake.

Does this release have the theatrical cut on both the 4K and the Blu-ray? I don't have a 4K setup but would be interested in it if the Blu-ray was the theatrical release as well. I have the older Blu-ray trilogy that I think is the extended release (I'll have to check my copy).
Do you know if the 5.1 track has the old sound effects? They were changed for any 5.1 track so I would always prefer the mono if there are new effects
The 5.1 are the old effects, as it is made from the LaserDisc sourced mono track that is also included.

Just bought this, hope it's a good transfer. Seriously one of the best movies of all time. I have The Man With No Name trilogy on bluray but recently got a Bravia 4k OLED. Trying to think of must own movies and this one came to mind.
There's one thing that would make it better...run it through a software program that makes it 60FPS!!

Why have they changed the gun sounds compared to the old version that I have seen on VHS? It doesn´t sound real for me. I have the 2009 version on Blu-ray.
The effects on this particular new release are original, the 2009 Blu-ray has the changed sound effects.
I didn’t think it was much of an upgrade over any of the Blu Rays I have. If the colour bugs me I’ll adjust my tv. It wasn’t like..oh, it’s sharper or has deeper colours.

Sounds an OK transfer, I’d have liked a 4K disc of the same quality as the likes of Lawrence Of Arabia and Spartacus though for this classic.

I don’t think HDR is necessary on all 4K UHD films. TGTBATU was shot in Techniscope. It’s a 2 perf process. It uses only 2 perforations of the 4 perf 35MM camera negative. Once complete, Technicolor would make an anamorphic dye transfer 4 perf print of the 2 perf. It’s essentially, like a Super 16 blow up to 35MM. The blacks are very black and grainy during scenes with low light levels. HDR would probably make those scenes too dark. HDR is great but it can be an issue at times, hence Forrest Gump.
If you get a ps5 or an xbox series x or both can you do a review of the 4k blueray player on the consoles?
Is the 2014 version the same as the 2009 version? What about the version that was included in the Man With No Name Trilogy in 2010? I had no idea there was such a huge variation between versions, and I'm curious about those versions.
No, the 2009 version had a very different color grade that was far more cool. However, it suffered from heavy DNR. This was the version that was included in the Man With No Name Trilogy in 2010.

@@haukionkannel 30 years? I doubt there will even be physical media in 30 years. Naw, probably more like 3 years to come out with a more optimized HDR version. I think they deliberately make sub-optimal versions of movies in the beginning so that people repurchase the same movie over and over. And after it is optimized, they change the format entirely. There is no excuse for having a noticeable color shift in a digital version of a movie. They are laughing all the way to the bank.
i dont have any release of this film yet. should i grab it at release since its a smaller release, or should i wait for prices to drop? will prices drop, given that its an independent release?
It won't drop much if ever as there is low quantities being produced from a small company.

I would like to tell you the 2009 is good enough because I also have it, but of course the UHD is superior in almost every way possible picture and audio wise. It's the best this movie has ever looked only beneath well preserved 35MM prints in a movie theatre
@@andresvergara3095 Thank you, this movie is up in my top three westerns. The other two are Clint Eastwood, "High Plains Drifter", and "The Outlaw Josey Wales." I hope they come out on 4k also, and I will get the Good, Bad, and Ugly on 4k. If I can find one, everyone right now is sold out.

Thanks. Just ordered it. I prefer the theatrical cut over the extended version. Also, while I haven't fired it yet, I own a cartridge conversion replica of Tuco's Colt 1851 Navy, which is the same pistol that Blondi carries. Difference is Blondi's pistol has snakes on the grips and Tuco's doesn't.
I too have this but I made my own blondie grips from an 1851 grip blank and snakes from Amazon. It was like $45 total.
Your 4K grabs are not matching what I see on dvdbeaver. I think you posted the italian blu-ray image by accident and labeled it 4K. I don't know how you made that mistake, but that is definitely the Italian Blu-ray in the grab at 3:30.
I have the 2010 'The Man with No Name Trilogy' box. I'm very pleased with it. Yellow-ish or not - I don't believe the upgrade is worth it. I don't even have a 4K TV. I have a Sharp Quattron Pro 2K, 60" purchased in Japan - my opinion, just as good as 4K. Bottomline: It's all about the quality of the movie - picture quality come second.
That’s a different transfer that’s closer to this one.

Thanks for deleting my previous comment. I’ll say again as the information in your video is poor to say the least! You’re wrong about the mono soundtrack it wasn’t on the previous release. It’s the laser disc mono soundtrack put on this 4k release which is the theatrical version or near as dammit! The other soundtrack the 5.1 on this is an upmix. There’s no HDR because it would have made the picture worse because the 2014 4k remaster by the Italian company ritrovata didn’t do a particularly good job on that hence it can’t have HDR without it looking worse. Kino didn’t do a new 4k Master they colour corrected the existing one! How do you not know this? If you’re gonna do a video you need to do your homework Jeff! Stop with the misleading information and the lack of. And by deleting comments that call you out isn’t on!

My understanding was that the yellow tinge was part og Sergio Leones vision? He says so in the blu ray package and that’s why I bought it.
Would you considering doing an update of movies you want to see come to 4k, ones that are on their way, likely to come, and unlikely to ever come?

They will release them one by one. If previous sell Well enough. They make the next. If not. This will end here.
If all three will be released, there is bigger chance of the box set release eventually. They just have to add one extra blue ray with some features that you can not get from the individualistit disks and you can sell the whole set again to some biggest collectors! Profit ;)

I certainly don’t Mind the extended nature of the 2009 blu ray and found its colour to be better than the 2014 or 2017. I wonder if this new 4k is similar in colour to the 2009 blu ray.

There is very small chance that this will get hdr version any soon... We may see the rest of the trilogy but are they hdr or not is completelly unknown. Hopefully at least some will be hdr... but maybe all will be released at sdr because it is cheaper to edit that way?
