Actually, this is the original, Whitney never sang this song, it was played on the radio a lot, Celine sang this song for a movie that was very popular at the time.

Celine's meaning is clear. Her husband Rene, who quite a bit older than her her, was there from the beginning. Through the good and trying times. As she overcame the obstacles which can sometimes knock the confidence from someone trying to achieve and haven't developed the strength yet to believe fully in themselves. And once the rose blossoms and the beauty opens the self to the sun, you can fly. And then, you soar to even higher up. This song is a love letter to the people who believe in someone despite the odds, or maybe because of them. A very personal and heartfelt thank you from me to you, Because You Loved Me.

This song was for her husband... They were together til he passed!! I think this song is basically a thank you to him for having faith in her, loving her, and lifing her up when she was down!! Celine Dion recorded it on her album Falling In To You (1996) and then it was then used as the theme song for the movie Up Close and Personal (1996).
Billboard Magazine has rated it as the number 14 greatest love song of all time.
Warren won a Grammy Award as well as an Oscar Award for Best Song Written for a Motion Picture, Television Show or Other Visual Media.
Sadly, Celine's husband Rene passed away in 2016.
I think that it is a beautiful song and loving tribute. It will forever remind me of my late wife, whose greatest accomplishment in life was to make her husband a better man.

As others have said, this was written for the film Up Close And Personal. The guy in the film dies. Diane Warren who wrote this, wrote it for her father. Like a lot of songs though, you can interupt it how you like.
I do not remember Whitney ever singing this song. This song was part of a movie starring Robert Redford and Michelle Pfeiffer. It was pretty emotional. Can’t recall the name of the movie but it’s a terrific love story. You two should check it out. Well worth it. Thanks for your reactions.

I think several ppl have done this song. Celine is amazing of course, but believe it or not, Michael Ball's version is my favorite. He is a British theater guy. Awesome voice. I'd love if you check out any of his stuff at all. Or delve into some theater musical songs/performances. I love reactions to the iconic songs.
