    What the heck did I just watch? That was incredible putting gold into solution, I never knew!
    Worked a while ago periodically near Redding CA and would go up to the creeks and pan. I was more about the experience but I did fill a small vial 1/4 way (2 grams) with gold glitter in about 20 hours total panning lol

    If you want a super clean precip bubble SO2 through a dilute AR solution. H2SO4 to SMB, filter through H2SO4 and bubble to the AR. Also has the benefit of a very good indicator of when the reaction starts, not going to spoil it but it’s super cool.

    On behalf of many of us, may I ask per ounce what would be the cost involved in converting our blunt bullion into art? • @LithicMetals
      @LithicMetals  ปีที่แล้ว +9

      Absolutely. I'd be happy to pour your fine gold. If it needs to be refined, my fee is 5% of the yield for over 1oz. 10% if less than an 1oz.
      I also charge a pour fee and for shipping.
      My pour fees vary pending on the weight. From $89.59 for the 1oz, to $413.45 for the 10oz.

    I had no idea so much process went into "pure gold".
    I never saw the whole acid dissolution and sublimation process. Its astounding.
    I always assumed gold was just melted and separated from impurities that way.
    Its gotta be humbling to handle such valuable material. I watched your 10 oz bar from old jewelry video and my brain melted.
    Must be all the acid I put in there 😂😂😂😂.

    As a photographer from the early 70’s we kept any expired fixer solution from film processing. When we had amassed about one gallon we would add pure powders zinc to the liquid, stir well and we would have a precipitate of silver that would fall out to the bottom of the mix. We would decant the liquid to a second container and add additional zinc powder to it. Anything that precipitated out of solution we wold add to the previous precipitate. When dry we would send this off for processing into silver. Have you done any silver processing videos?

    I haven't finished the video yet, but out of curiosity, how much gold loss occurs when using an aqua regia method? In the case of the silver contamination with this customer's bar, is there ever a concern that the customer might interpret the reduction in weight (from whatever contaminants are filtered out) as being a sign of shenanigans on your end? How do you deal with situations like that? I suppose that filming every step of the process would insulate you a bit.
    Regardless, great video. You're a master of your craft.

    It’s my understanding that banking gold (gold made for the specific purpose of being used as banking currency) is contaminated with silver on purpose. That 99.95% pure gold is 0.05% silver. I saw a video about the nationals ore reserves being mismanaged and using 99.95% gold with a claimed 99.98% and this resulted in hundred of millions missing.

    12:09 $0.04 worth of silver did this
    1.110ozt-1.108ozt=0.002ozt=0.0622g
    Silver is $0.75/gram, so
    $0.75×0.0622=$0.04665 (we'll round down for the sake of other metals)
    So, $0.04 worth of silver did this.

    I enjoyed your video and the process it took you to get there, as well as the clan pour, this was impressive. I do have one concern and maybe you can clarify, you marked the gold as .999% 24k purity of gold without taking an X-ray fluorescence test or any other composition test. That last 9 may not be important to many but it is deceiving to the few who buy gold in bulk. You also don't have the lab results of your claim of Certificate of Authenticity.

    • @LithicMetals
      @LithicMetals  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Glad you enjoyed the vid! Thanks for watching. My gold always tests at 4nines. When I started refining I was too insecure to claim 4nines and only guaranteed 3nines. Since then I just stuck with the .999 fine as part of Lithic's branding. I include a COA with every piece. I don't need a third party to verify my work. I am the "lab results". My reputation is based on my claim. If any of my work was ever tested by a customer or third party, and came back as less than my claim... it would ruin my reputation. This isn't a hobby, this is my business.
