  • Sony 15mm f/1.4 G 4K Video Test (Filmed in Singapore)
    So Sony recently announced 3 new APA-C lenses. The 10-20mm f/4 G PZ, 11mm f/1.8 and 15mm f/1.4 G. And I gotta say, the Sony 15mm f/1.4 G lens really got me attention. The reason is, this is the first Large aperture APS-C lens from Sony. Most of their APS-C lenses always at f/1.8. So you may say, 15mm works out like 22mm on a full frame camera. That is not an exciting focal length really. Yes, that’s right. If you are using this lens for vlogging. Then ofcoz this is not wide enough. For me I think it this way, most of the Sony APS-C cameras do not have IBIS. Like the a6400 and ZV-E10. So when you switch on the electronic IBIS. It crops in a bit. So it works out almost like a 24mm lens. So if you think this is a 24mm lens then it would make more sensor to it.
    So first of all, the build quality is great. As you would imagine from a G series lens. And the image quality is also superb. With a large aperture of f/1.4. It depends how you shoot it. You can actually achieve a full frame look from the lens. The reason why I tested with the Sony A7IV because I wanted to shoot in 4K 60p. And none of the Sony APS-C cameras can do 4K 60p at the moment. So hopefully Sony will release one soon.

    This is such an impressive lens. The "24mm" equivalent looks nice and sharp. The night shot also looks good. Thanks for sharing. Really like the series. Keep it up.

    This came out so beautifully, I’m so glad you did a realist video review. Did you color grade / use a ND filter or is this straight from the lens? ❤

    Is this a APSC lens or full frame ?

      15mm f/1.4 G is an APS-C lens. The reason why I used A7IV to film the video, because none of the Sony APS-C cameras can do 4K 60p at the moment. And funny enough, the A7IV has a Super 35mm crop when shooting 4K 60p. So that’s why I used the A7IV to make this video 😉☺️

      @@jose2g It’s depends how wide you want. I think the FE 14mm f/1.8 GM is also a good choice. Slightly cheaper 😉

    Another great video mate! What gimbal are you using? Silky smooth multi-axis movements.

    Can you confirm if the stabilization in active is better compared to a third party lens like sigma or tamron?

  • @flamonaut

    Nice lens for gimbal work. As you have shown nicely in your video. Thats the only reason i would get this lens. Does work breathing compensation as well or is that additional crop not possible in 4k? So you would end up 15mm*1,5(apsc)*1,1(active stabilazation)*1,1(breathing comp.) = 27 mm. But breating comp on a gimbal is not really neccessary. And with A7IV you get 10 bit color. Noce work as alwasys!

    • @dsipictures
      @dsipictures  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Thank you very much, really appreciated. This lens has very minimal lens breathing. So I didn’t turn on the breathing correction in the camera. And I didn’t use the active stabilization in camera. So the lens was still 22.5mm after the 1.5x crop. Even though if you switch on all the modes. I would say it’s close to 24mm. Yea the 10Bit color on the A7IV is very nice 😊

    So this lens on the new a6700 is equivalent to what focal length? Is it good for vlogging?

    • @dsipictures
      @dsipictures  ปีที่แล้ว

      The crop factor on the a6700 will be 1.5x. Same with all other Sony APS-C cameras. This 15mm would be 22.5mm 😊

    How did you use a polar pro nd im assuming you used a step up ring what size is the nd

    • @dsipictures
      @dsipictures  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The filter thread is 55mm on the 15mm f/1.4 G lens, so I used the 55mm to 77mm step up ring for the PolarPro NDs ☺️

    • @mariohampton4985
      @mariohampton4985 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ok perfect and you don’t get any vignetting with the step up ring and filter?

    • @dsipictures
      @dsipictures  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@mariohampton4985 The filter is almost double size of the lens. There is no way to get vignetting. It’s only when u use a step down ring. Let say your filter thread is 55mm and you try and screw a 49mm filter. That’s how you get the vignetting. Because your filter is smaller than the lens element itself 😉
