It is not, the opening scene was directly inspired by this event, from similar location (in the movie the siege takes place in another ex-Soviet eastern European country, Ukraine) and basic circumstances (terrorists take hostages in a theatre during a play) to authorities using sleeping gas during the siege which ends up affecting the hostages but not the attackers who happen to have gas masks.

“If you just shoot the hostage then you don’t have worry about hostage rescue”-Spetsnaz
Spetsnaz Alpha team squad leader Artyom at debrief: "Xapow, job well done lads"
When I served, the joke used to be, ‘What drills do the Spetsnaz use for Hostage Rescue? They bring in a Hind gunship and destroy the house.’ They really suck at Hostage Rescue, by United States standards. As Popo's video is a prime example, Spetsnaz are indeed "tough"....but they're like anabolic steroid meat-head stupid tough. In the United States, you have to have a specific ASVAB score in order to even be considered for special operations…I'm pretty sure for Spetsnaz, all that is required is for you to be big and strong and love "Mother Russia".
Standards have dropped significantly. Your argument is a fallacy
Yep, just look at what they did during the Beslan Siege
Technically they rescue, it's just more of a casualty recover op. 😂

Hmm, the scores have dropped since I last served.... But overall, they are above the average ASVAB score.
@@clshep
The basic asvab requirements to enter into two military have been dropped significantly by the Army and Navy. An Asvab of 10 is enough to get in. Logically, this lowering of standards will have an effect on the quality of aspects of the military: mcnamera's morons program and increased recruiting films to bolster numbers.
This is why PMC contracting is replacing conventional specual forces and why the US military is phasing out special forces operations .
Thank you for always staying true to your content and never switching up! You a real one popo
From a tactical perspective this was a 5 star operation. The Russian spec ops completed their mission without harming a single hostage.
All of the hostages died due to poor logistical planning. The gas they used was based on an opiod variant. The hostages weren't administered narcan. As a matter of fact, the first responders didn't know what happened since they were a civilian branch and this was a military operation. Most of these lives could have been saved if not for that small detail.
Thats not a small deatil… if the special operators cannot handle that logistic of having the nessecary medicaments ready, its not a 5 star operation
The special ops are designed to carry out strikes not to arrange logistics.
@@Dylanoberry logistics is the single most important thing in warfare. it's such a fuck up that turned a 5 star operation into what it's seen as today. all hostages could have been saved if they werent on their backs and they was enough narcan
@@macksii I understand the gov could have done more to save the hostages but the spetnaz are not to blame here, they did what they had to do.
@@Dylanoberry yea like the boots on the ground aren't the ones behind logistics but their superiors are responsible for that though

Wow. I can't decide if it was pure ruthlessness or gross incompetence. And, honestly, I'm not sure which would be worse.
A bit of both.
It was mostly incompetence since when the Medics was informed, they bought in Narcan which basically saved the remaining 700 hostages.

A absolute tragedy and as a American we have experienced terror attacks and no matter if it’s Russia or America we should help each other as innocent people should never die. The Russians came to aid us in 9/11 we should return the favor of respect. Rest in peace to all that died.
Or, here's another idea: let's all stay within our own country, then nobody has to get hurt. Here's a fun fact for you: none of the countries which have minded their own business throughout history have ever been targeted by terr ori sts. Not one. Let me put it this way: You can't fxck with the middle east and a bunch of different places for decades and then cry after 9/11. It doesn't make any sense. And the same goes for ruSSia. You reap what you sow.
you do realize after 9/11 Putin asked Bush if he could invade the Baltics, right? he wasn't "helping", he was trying to gain a favor. There's a reason the baltics all joined NATO shortly after.
That last imagine of the young girl hit me straight in the heart. I have daughters not much younger than she appeared to be. Losing your child has got to be one of the worst pains imaginable. R.I.P to the innocent perished.
“So how did you save the hostages?”
Fuze: there were hostages in there?
Awesome video. Extremely accurate I read multiple books on this siege.
I would say 130 death out of 1000 is still pretty acceptable when accounting the large number of hostage getting cramped into a room and they were between a firefight
How many of those 130 deaths were caused by the terrorists vs Russian mystery gas?
You're so underrated, dude. Another killer video.
Lmao I shouldn't have laughed about the brave lady at 6:49. But the way you delivered it was too funny, she really thought she was the main character.
Another awesome video. I don't know how your account isn't bigger, but thanks. I always appreciate when you upload.
Well done. I love how you took a different approach on this. I feel as though most of your videos show how it all can go right. This shows how the other side can happen too.
Definitely! Similar to the Waco video... I like to try and tell it as linear as possible so those hearing it for the first time can sink their teeth in it and get excited, until the issues at the end subvert every expectation they might of had. At least that’s how I think one would feel watching this event unfold live on their TV.
@PopoMedic keep this up man. The only thing stopping you from being one of the biggest creators in this space is the delay between videos. But i see you've been working on that lately. Keep it all up man!
Great video as always. I remember this and I totally forgot that there were that many hostages, I do remember the death toll though.
Sucks your other video had to be taken down, but at least I got to watch it before it was taken down. Keep up the good work.
Not trying to dismiss or defend an obvious goat rope of an operation, because it did become a dumpster fire, but hostage rescue as a whole is and always has been a seriously low percentage endeavor.
Successful rescues always have been the exception rather than the rule.
I've been watching your videos the last two years and your growth as a channel and the production have been really cool to watch. Hope to see more content more often. 🤙
BTW there is a video called "Interview with Alpha Group operator after the assault on Dubrovka NORD-OST" where a Alpha Operator walks through the theatre and explains what they did there.

You need to involve in such operations to understand the risk. Its hard when other have nothing to lose, while you have everything to lose. All the hostages would have been lost though if the bomb had been triggered...what many dont consider.

As someone who loves history, the history of the USA and happened to dive into late Russian Empire, the USSR, Warsaw Pact and the Russian Federation, it is refreshing to see someone empathize with the Russian people in terms of the leadership that they so undeservingly have to tolerate.
I love America, but we’re being run by Zionists. Russia is at least trying to defend itself, while Americans bicker over politics.
Usually I enjoy your videos, but this hit hard.
This is what the beginning of the movie "Tenet" is based on.

Spetsnaz is just a blanket term, it literally just means 'special purpose units' and Russia has many different Spetsnaz units. A simple Google search would've informed you it was FSB Alpha and FSB Vympel who were tasked with ending the siege.

There's no way the beginning of TENET is a coincidence.
It's 1000% based on this.

Had they notified the first responders as to what the gas was, and how to treat it it could have been the best way to deal with it. At the time though russia considered the gas to be a state secret and many people died as a result
