  • At age 16, Jack Cadigan appeared to be a healthy, athletic high school student, playing on his school’s basketball team. That summer, Jack volunteered at a medical clinic in Haiti where they discovered he had an issue with his heart. He came to Mass General where Dr. Ami Bhatt diagnosed him with an atrial septal defect, which was repaired through surgery. Jack immediately noticed a big difference in his health, not realizing how limited he was before the surgery.

    Thank you for posting this. I'm struggling to find a community. I'm 31 and have mitral valve disease. I've had four open heart surgeies and five ischemic strokes. May God bless all of you who have been afflicted with heart disease. Sending you love and positive vibes during this pandemic.

    I am 23years old and I was newly diagnosed with an Atrial Septal Defect last May. I cannot afford the 600k surgery. I am still looking for other options. Thanks for this great video.

      You should contact Massachusetts General Hospital. They performed the surgery for the girl for free... maybe they will for you too. Unless that was all just lies and this "story" is just empty propaganda for the hospital to gain more paying "customers" :(

      You might not need surgery, all depends on the size and its impact on heart function.

    Was born premature 2 months ahead of time in 1981. Was followed medically through my initial 5 years with a slight murmur initially but later disappeared. Lived normally for 37 years and kept very active until I was recommended by my family doctor to get an echo cardiogram following my father's untimely passing a few months earlier from an unrelated open heart surgery.
    With a planned trip to Peru to high altitude within a couple of months, I was diagnosed with ASD, had no prior symptoms but apparently a very enlarged ventricle. Underwent catheter surgery to patch a 22mm hole 4 months later and doing well now after 2 months. Still need to take blood thinner medication for 3-6 months and then follow up with my cardiologist after 6 months. Had my pediatrician done an echo back when I was a toddler, this procedure could've been done much earlier in my life but it's no use blaming anyone
    since without symptoms, it's hard to detect or even think the heart might be at risk.
    Hiking Matchu Picchu will have to wait a little! :)

    • @baho6836
      @baho6836 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@pb3482 don't be worried. It's a very simple surgery. It takes about 90 mins with local anesthesia, you're still awake but won't feel much. Had this been done 30 years ago, you would have needed open heart surgery with a longer recovery timeframe. Went back to normal within 2 weeks, just no heavy lifting since the incision was at the groin level. After 6 months on blood thinners, I didn't need to take them anymore. Clean bill of health! Couldn't have asked for better

    Do people with such a disease have a normal marital life? Or are they restricted from certain things in intimacy?

    • @baho6836
      @baho6836 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not sure if you're joking, but no there isn't any restriction to perform physical activites except for anything underwater such as scuba diving. Your spouse will get to enjoy all the intimacy with you after this 😉

      Sure can but avoid lifting heavy weights the first few weeks. The incision is done close to the groin and takes a few days for the swelling to go away
