I am so moved by this song that I must share my story!! In 1996, with my blessing, my wife traveled abroad to seek a greener pasture, leaving behind myself and our 2 year old son and 4 month old daughter. This was the only song that kept me and my children going because we missed her so much. I vividly remember playing this song every hour of every day. In Ghana, at the time, we lived in a compound house, and a certain woman who constantly heard me playing this song stopped me and said, "And so what? Is it only you whose wife has traveled? Give me a break! Why is it "me nya ntaban, me nya ntaban" EVERYDAY??" I rolled my eyes, looked at her intensely, and said "You have no idea what this song means to me". Eventually, my wife came back to Ghana and we reunited! By God's grace, in the end, we all relocated abroad to America. Thank you Mr. Music Man, this song has brought us through tough times!

Me nya ntaban basic translation
If I had wings I would fly to my love
I'm cold
If I had wings I would fly like a dove
I will fly to my love
queenlady, queenlady is the one that knows how to play
Someone should call her for me
queenlady is the one that knows what my heart likes
Someone should call her for me
This is what poverty has done, poverty has broken us apart
and my love is somewhere
I said I was going to find the cure for poverty but I'm just wandering about
This is what poverty has done, poverty has been able to break us apart and love is somewhere that it shouldn't be
Someone should come and see my love, I'm lost weight and become like a broomstick
So if I had wings I would fly to my love, I'm cold
If I had wings I would fly like a dove, fly to my love
aahh oh poverty
Someday I will tell my story
aahh oh poverty
someday I will tell my story
What am I going to say, what am I going to do
I thouht I would kill a hawk but I flew like a vulture instead (figurative speech)
What am I going to say, what am I going to do
I thought I would kill a kawk but I flew like a vulture instead (figurative speech)
Ah ey ah ey matters of life
Where we will sleep is even an issue in life
traveling has turned me into a worn
I don't have eyes so I keep bumping into things
I'm wandering about but I don't know where I'm going
I've been walking for a long time but I can't reach where I'm going
If God doen't help me/intervene and I fall into a killer ant swam (ants can overtake a worm)
Then what will I do
What am I going to say, what am I going to do
I thought I would kill a hawk but I flew like a vulture (figurative speech)
So if I had wings I would fly to my love
I'm cold
If I had wings I would fly like a dove that's looking for food
I will fly to my love
I will fly to my love
I will fly to my love
I will fly to my love
