    The entire final scene and zone is so wonderfully done. It completely focuses on all the experiences our characters have made and shows how much all of them grew and changed. It's a celebration of the entire journey we have made and confronts the beliefs and values of our characters for the very last time.
    It brings the themes of all previous expansions and the writing of the characters so well together. I'm so sad that the MSQ streams are over until 6.1. I really enjoyed the journey and I'm so glad that Preach likes the story of XIV so much

    Endwalker not only raises the stakes to "The Fate of the Universe" but it also sets the grounds for much lower stakes in the future.
    We don't need a massive threat to visit the New World; just say G'raha and Krile went to explore and disappeared, and we are ALL IN.

    • @UltimaKeyMaster
      @UltimaKeyMaster 2 ปีที่แล้ว +21

      It really says something when a ton of people at the end of the MSQ are hammering in your head "you are an adventurer above all else. Go adventure."
      A certain company would have you believe you can't lower stakes once you raise them. Yoshi-P says no.

      There's a video from a channel called Raycevick called "Saving the world... 1000 times over" that generally says that when the stakes are so incredibly high, you don't have time to get personal, which is where character growth happens.
      And I 100% agree with that statement. The best moments for me in FF14 has been the heart-to-heart conversations where people just develop themselves, and it's so sweet to see.

    The beauty of Ultima Thule is how final everything feels. How you say goodbye to each and every one of your friends. How the music gradually grows ands adds a lil'bit each step of the way, until the lyrics kick in. How it makes you remember this long journey you've been on. All the places you've been and people you've met and I'm not just talking about the NPCs. No matter how much you try to convince yourself everyone is going to be fine, there is always doubt...
    Right up until there isn't. And then, they lay out the path ahead of you and you can go on without any doubt, that there's another journey ahead...

      Honestly, UT didn't feel final at all to me. From the moment Venat gave you the power to "give form to the formless" and Birbgirl said "he (thancred) doesn't have a form to form words" I knew they'd get rezzed because of that the goodbyes just did nothing to me and the Endwalk up the rainbow road didn't feel earned. Hell i even went to Hamburg and had the time of my life there, meeting everyone, having awesome food and drinking until 7 am, barely making it in time to the hotel for checkout without a minute of sleep. A time i will remember for sure, but this is not the end.

    I saw a comment flying through chat:
    "A smile, better suits an Emet."
    Blew my mind wide open as I realized something:
    Haurchefant's dying words were "A smile better suits a Hero."
    Emet smiled at us as he died, because Emet is one of the true heroes of this story: He sacrificed himself and his eternal lifespan to try and fix the mistakes that were made by the Ancients. He drove himself mad in an attempt to right that wrong.
    And that reminds me of Lord Fortemps saying: "A hero fights for those they can yet save. Because a hero lives to serve, to protect, to sacrifice. For them, there is no greater calling"
    Emet served his people, protected their legacy, and sacrificed himself and his sanity to do it. Emet is a true hero, but our paths were destined to be opposed, because we were the hero of another story.

    Thancred getting snapped made me worry they might actually let that one stick. Once Estinien died, I was 100% certain that we were going to lose probably everyone, but we would get them back.
    That being said, I had to choose "Stop. Not another word," when I realized the Twins were going, because I was starting to break. And when we summoned our old new friends to our side, and Meteion asked "What are you?" I bellowed in response "STUBBORN ASSHOLES!" Because there were 3 standing right there.
    And when we called our friends back to our side, and the strings cut out, leaving just the piano, tears just flowed down my face.
    I also cried once the vocals kicked in, in the final trial's Phase 2. The Maker's Ruin melody, _our theme,_ under the prayers of our friends, kicking over to the vocals singing the Song of Hope, I managed to keep my rotation going, and not die, through the tears.

    This is still the emotional high watermark of 6.0 for me. What came after feel like it should, and would happen. On the other hand, y(our) friends, separated by thousands of years, of all the tragedies, worlds and adventure, came to your aid for perhaps one last time, and bidding you farewell, is very moving. And, despite all of that, you managed to "recall" parts of your memories you shared with them, even parts that they might have forgotten. Emet, despite all of the misgivings between your character and him, still consoles and smiles at his friend before departing, because inside, he still remembers you as part of yourself, long gone. After all, all he did, he did it for his friends, for memories. Finally being able to entrust that memory to his friend before departing is melancholic in the best way possible.
    All of this didn't happen very "logically" as well. There were quite a lot of Deus Ex Machina, but we didn't care, it all feels connected and mattered because of the emotional connections. It's such a simple principle, yet so few bothers with. They didn't plan it all out meticulously either, they accept changes, deviations, as long as the core emotion and connection remains.
    Inevitably it draws comparison to another former beloved IP. The whole mess with Sylvanas, at its core, is because the story can't make up its mind about what kind of emotional connection the player is supposed to have with her. She's not the most confusing personally. To me, Jaina is a lot worse than any of them. Her history and journey seems to have little impact to her character. Her character seems to just be whatever role the writer wants her to play at the moment. She went from being the reasonable leader of an exposed outpost, having lost her father from conflict with the Horde, but also understanding her debt's to them, as well as the consequence of the cycle of hatred. Yet, she had to go through that again but much shallower with her face heel turn during BfA, as if her madness phase after Mists never happened, and she never expelled all Horde mages from Dalaran nor refused to fight the Legion because Khadgar invited them back. Her motivation, is well understood, but she never make any meaningful enough connection with anybody that it feels emotional. I can go on about things such as Anduin and Wrynn connection is effectively non-existent in game, and it took a cinematic monologue to convey it (Legion).

    Pff, look at this grownass man crying to a video game. Stupid weeb game building a phenomenal narrative complete with great voice acting and a powerfully beautiful ending to wrap everything up. I bet I can cry more than he can!
    For real tho, I shed many, many memorable tears. This damn expansion has been ridiculously heavy and so beautifully and cleanly wrapped up to become easily a top 5 all-time game for me if not the absolute top, now.

    Man. I'm glad so many enjoyed this xpack. I truly am, makes me almost tear up to watch people do this. When I was doing it, I couldn't get past the fact that they chose my 3 least favorite villain types. Didn't shed a single tear and that actually made me sad.
    A) inexplicably powerful and random new convenient powers with no-precedent explanations, 1 dimensional and 1 stupid goal (Zenos, Garrosh)
    B) normally un-powerful small character made super dangerous by the power of depression and trauma (Meteion, 50000 anime characters)
    C) inexplicably insane/nihilistic and single-minded yet somehow able to form complex strategies, which would be ok if he was actually funny and it weren't combined with someone who should be a genius but does just the most idiotic thing you can think of (Fandaniel/Hermes, no comparison)
    Also didn't like Ultima Thule...I mean parts of it yes but the concept of it being the last place...its so...ultimate. It will all feel downhill almost no matter what they do now. We defeated some half-ass version of the most powerful primal (which was a HHHUUUGGGEEEE disappointment for me, stopped playing for 2 weeks...all that buildup since ARR started and stupid ass fandaniel ends it like THAT, what a disappointing narrative decision). Like what more is there? Meteion even threatened Omega's creators and they and the dragons were the strongest non-primals we knew of.. so like...we will just be weak or fight weaker stuff now (in canon)? If there is something stronger out there, why didnt they stop the meteions? This is where WoW completely lost me...I started drifting when they pulled MoP out of their ass with a single bonus character as precedent, but when Sargeras was defeated, I was done.

    I don't get the whole 'Hades was an Azem' angle. First of all he lacked the temperament to actually deal with what being Azem entailed and secondly I think people are misinterpreting his "I certainly did" line. He didn't mean that's what he did as Azem, he meant that as someone who had decided to obliterate these worlds and everything on them that it was his duty to see them for himself before he did so. He was doubtless expecting to have his bias reinforced that they were unworthy to live in his eyes but he still went to see them.

    • @DarkZergkill
      @DarkZergkill 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Somewhat agreed I do not believe it was meant that Emet was Azem, but I do think that line has a different meaning.
      It has become quite clear during the Eplis part that Emet and Hythlo were very close with the last Azem before the sundering and given their interaction with Venat, even with her too when she held that title before.
      So I see it more that Emet just has A LOT of experience in dealing with various Azems, be it getting schooled by Venat, running after her successor and budding heads with the WoL.

    • @peregrine5327
      @peregrine5327 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1
