I'm Aronofsky made the decision to center the film about ballet because it easily mirrors Perfect Blue with how cutthroat and pressuring the industry is that the MC is in the older they get. The main character of Perfect Blue tries to break into different mediums, attempting to get into movies and trying out television because all Pop Idols are on a time limit for relevancy. Ballet becomes incredibly competitive and consuming by the time dancers become adult. Nina has a strict diet and has exercises that are clearly in some way harmful to her, she has no time for herself or a relationship. Aronofsky changed the profession between the movies perfectly for the culture it is set in and it's primary audience.
I think that guy doesnt know what a "Theme" or "Settings" is. Synecdoche new york is all about a guy who is stuck in his repeativity world, thats why time is important in the film.
Why does he go from saying “I watch Citizen Kane” to back up his argument, then Adam says he’s watched it, so he then says Citizen Kane is overrated, then once Adam agrees he starts defending Citizen Kane. Dude just wants to disagree.

Ugh I hate people like this, I'm lumped in with them because I like older movies. People see my taste in film as pretentious and it annoys me to no end!! I have my preferences and they are skewed twords older movies but that doesn't stop me from watching and enjoying newer films. My third favorite film came out in 2007 and it hasn't even been a decade since my fourth favorite film came out.

I thought it was okay in the sense that it has some neat shots and ideas in terms of filmmaking melding with the story beats, the ending however absolutely failed in making me take it seriously though.
