the people behind me were eating something so loudly it was distracting - is that my fault for allowing myself to be distracted? perhaps, yeah. But damn, dude - pipe down with that munching, you loud moviegoer!
So you're one of those people that have to stuff their face instead of just paying attention to the movie that you paid more money for, and a hell of a lot more people put work into than your damn popcorn. Cry me a river.
I find it hard to believe the military couldnt think of a single way to take out the creatures. They couldnt place some loudspeaker somewhere and place a bunch of mines around it?
Well since they were defending humanity, the military, law enforcement, etc. armed citizens were definitely targeted first so they had the most casualties. The weakness only occurs when extremely close to one of them and by creating a certain frequency. There's no time to develop a cohesive strategy and communicate globally.
I'm 100% sure that the very first thing that the military would do after finding out about that the monsters are sound based would be trying sound based traps or weaponry against them. It's almost insultingly stupid to think these monster would wreck the biggest military and the most armed population in the world. Just laughable.
@@IronFreakV not everyone would have the knowledge and power to make a loud enough frequency. Also people with guns would be targeted first cuz you know guns make loud boom.
Honestly, the biggest problem I had with this movie is that the concept of the monsters makes absolutely no sense as portrayed. They are completely blind, hunt entirely by sound, and also clearly lack any form of sound-sense to serve an equivalent function as eyes, such as bat's echolocation or a whale's sonar, and yet again and again and again they are shown to be effortlessly running through forests, navigating houses, etc. without any difficulty whatsoever? How? They can't see! They have no way of knowing if they are about to run headlong into something or trip. Far from being these unstoppable killing machines, in actuality these aliens should have been pretty much completely harmless.
@@plugshirt1684 how, exactly? Do they also have built-in gps? Being part of a hive mind doesn't mean they'd automatically be able to locate one another. (I wanted to use the gps joke because I think it's funny, but it made me sound like an asshole, sorry 'bout that)
Kickiusz it’s alright you make a good point but sadly the only answer I can really come up with is probably it just wasn’t thought of too much or maybe they have echolocation. A lot of the stuff in this movie you kind of just have to guess for yourself how you think it works the movie has quite a few plot holes but who knows maybe they just have some weird unknown abilities by being aliens or it just wasn’t thought that well through. Overall this movie is a great concept but they definitely could have made it better.
17:31 Honestly the idea of permanently keeping the song Despacito blaring as loud as possible while on a constant loop to distract the creatures sounds like a worse type of hell than what the movie even presented.
Actually, constant loud sound(s) can be very negative to people's well-being. At my previous work I've had to work in a room with a server. And, of course, the server had powerful fans. I've got used to the sound pretty quickly. But when I sometimes was leaving the work late, when nobody was around and everything was very quiet, my head was ringing as if somebody inside was beating on huge bells. And then I realized how negative the constant sound (not even that loud) was for me.
@High Definition because you would also torture yourself... If I had to choose a torture song I would probably pick "looking for freedom" by the Hoff...
What bothered me about the nail scene was that the woman didn't bother to investigate what the bag was caught on. Like seriously, if I was hauling a bag up stairs and it got caught on something, I'd want to see what caused it.
You know what annoyed me with this movie? The fact that the aliens having super-tough skin made them impossible to defeat for earths entire military force. "Oh, we can't shoot it so we have absolutely no way of fighting them!" Okay, so tasers, weaponized gas, SONIC WEAPONRY THAT EXISTS TODAY. THE FACT THAT ELECTRICAL WIRING MAKES SIMILAR NOISE AS THE COCHLEAR IMPLANT! You'd think the military fighting for the survival of mankind would go a bit further than "Fuck, guns don't hurt. Better give up then."
I mean it would make sense if their were dozens of these creatures and they overran the military because they would think bullets work I mean sure we use other things besides bullets but considering their speed it would take more time to do all of those things compared to a gun. I feel like the sequel will answer more, since it was kind of vague where these creatures came from or why they didn't use missiles or heavier weapons.
These creatures survived their planet getting destroyed by a meteorite, and they rode pieces of their planet to earth. That's millions of years they survived in vacuum of space. So yeah, they are tough nuts to crack. That and the military responded with normal tactics, and when that failed, they were all dead anyway, so no time for plan b.

I like how the mom never bothers to get rid of the nail or prevent it from hurting anyone else. I would have loved it if the kids stepped on it too at the end.
@@simplicity4766 A simple fix would be to get a chunk of wood, screw a hole on it, then place said wood on top of the nail by slotting it through the screwed hole. It's literally the first thing people do in a woodshop class to learn about when using screws and nails since they would split solid wood without making a proper slot beforehand.
Oh, sorry. I know almost nothing about woodwork or really anything else that’s related to it. I’ve tried to get rid of a loose nail, though, so that’s how I know about the whole “hammering nails” thing.
@@simplicity4766 The easiest way to remove a nail is to put a hammerhead's back to the nail and just pull. It might make a light 'plop' sound at most as long as you pull straight up so as to not bend the wood from pulling nail at an angle.
Why is the nail even there in the first place??? It literally serves no functional purpose at all - it is nailed up through the step and not attached to anything else in order for it to serve a function. All it is is a nonsensical ridiculous plot device that makes me hate this family so much more and totally be on the side of the monsters
When she shot the monster at the end, someone in my theater yelled "why didn't they do that to begin with?" and everyone laughed. As someone that enjoyed it, there are still so many inconsistencies and conveniences.

@@smolsammichowo If you fire a shot and kill one, a dozen or more will hear it and come running. The difference by the end of the film was they had discovered a defense against them to stop from being insta-killed, so taking a shot was worth the risk since they can just blare those speakers with that noise and stop the monsters from offing them. Without the discovery at the end of the film, they can't just walk around shooting them, they would inevitably end up over-run.

Wouldn't it super obvious that the monsters that have extremely good hearing would be weak to high frequencies. I feel we'd figure it out in a few weeks if not days/hours.

When the kids were on top of the grain silo and they were like, "We need to let Dad know we're up here," I was like, "just wave the flashlight around. The monsters are blind, they can't see it, so just wave the flashlight around until your Dad sees it."
Sigh this is exactly why I couldn’t find any fear in this film. Sure those cliche horror flicks where we scream “don’t go in there” gives me a thrill, but those characters are dumb and are meant to die. These characters are brought up to be survivors but they do such stupid shit like Adam says. I can’t be scared when I’m too busy baffled at stupidity.
i didn't even see the movie, but i'm pretty sure that it's the kids being dumb not the screenwriters the trailer has got a ton of cliches though, just giving my opinion
I thought the purpose was that the kid thought they needed to save the battery of the flashlight. and it's not like the dad could yell to let them know he knows where they were so maybe didn't think it was worth it?
Grain actually forms air pockets that people can sink in. The door distributes weight to prevent this. It's one of the few things they actually thought through.
yeah, when they spread their bodies out it would distribute the weight far more evenly across the surface which would prevent them from sinking. Like how the metal door thingy does.
I grew up in an area with agriculture, and yeah silos have big warnings saying that grain, fertiliser, even flour can act as quicksand stacked up. It's pretty wild. Specifically says lay flat if you find yourself in a silo but many a kid has sunk to their doom in one.
@@hdnfbp Might I present a rebuttal? Snow shoes work by distributing the wearer's weight across a larger surface area so that they don't sink into the snow. The weight could then pack *some* of the grain underneath the metal and provide greater stability as well.
Yep. I grew up with my granny and parents planting some veggies on my grand- grandparents ground and as kids- even though empty- we were never, ever under any circumstances allowed to TOUCH THE EFFING DOOR of the ( I think already empty) silo! Or go down the wine cellar. Or in the barn ( unstable, tools all up the walls etc ) or the hayloft (rotten woods, an 10 feet drop) and I knew danned well why and to follow these rules even though sometimes no adult was around for 4 hours, while they were storing food in the nearby home of my granny and parents..... And I knew how SERIOUS this was even at age 5 or 6. My cousin 1.5 years older than me didn't always obey. I did. I didn't want to die alone there in methane gas or by a fall.....and they explained these things pretty well and I understood. I was laughing so hard when at age 12 a lady asked me if a " city kid " knew what a sickle was. .... I was like:" lady, I know the difference between a sickle and a scythe and even how to use them. Death by drowning in grain is more common than you would think. I live in a farming region, and we've lost some kids to it. By going horizontal on the grain, it makes it harder for you to sink in one specific place. It's like how they recommend to slide yourself back onto ice if you fall into a frozen lake instead of getting back on your feet. Also, the girl finds out that her ear device is their weakness in the same scene--the monster gets too close and the device goes off. Lastly, it wasnt the radio hooked up to the system--it was simply just a general speaker system which she held her ear device up to.
NaBi The Rabbit I almost died from that too. As a kid I thought "Oh cool a huge pile of grain! I'm gonna jump into that!". Then I started to sink and couldn't get out. Thankfully, the farmer heard me yelling for help and got me out with a rope.
Fun Fact: Drowning in grain silos does happen and is a legitimate danger. It is a phenomena called Grain Entrapment which can happen even in unconstrained piles of grain if they are large enough. Not sure if its quite as quicksand like as shown, but its a thing.
+G. Foggy. Eh, to be fair its a pretty uncommon thing nowadays at least, causing only around 20ish fatalities a year. Statistically speaking you are more likely to die slipping and falling in the bathroom.
G. Foggy. You are aware that most cases of people drowning in grain did so because the auger at the bottom of the bin was activated which would make a lot of noise? The only other way is if there is an air pocket right underneath where you stand or grain bridging which is when spoiled grain clumps together over an air pocket. Also even if any of these unlikely scenarios did happen the other kid would have never been able to help him out of there. Someone submerged waist deep in grain would need the equivalent of their own body weight plus 600lbs in order to free them so...
Torin Riley oh fuck yes it’s that fast. It’s something about how there’s just enough air in between the kernels in there that it pretty much acts like water. Part of the issue is that it also kills pretty quietly too, as your mouth and lungs fill with corn or grain. A shit ton of kids have died on farms this way
Torin Riley that’s because safety standards are higher now, and most kids who live in farm heavy areas get the whole “don’t fucking mess with the grain silo” speech
"Don't make noise. We have to be safe." Also parents: - leaves batteries on the counter next to the toy - leaves the youngest child in the care of their deaf daughter - deaf daughter walks *in* *front* of him, despite having no possible way to supervise him at that point Super contrived.

@@pyrokineticfantasies8964 it didn't create a high pitch noise. That was just an effect that the movie used, to show how the aliens feel about it. Honestly there should have been very little sound in that scene where the implant is next to the mic.
@@pyrokineticfantasies8964 those implants don't create sound, they create electrical signals. The aliens themselves have been shown to have their own electrical field. Every time they walk near electronics, they go heywire. And well, they hate the electronic signals that the implants make, but when they get near it, they boost said signal, hurting themselves more. Basically it was never about loud noises hurting them, it was about a specific frequency of electrical waves from a custom built implant, that made them lose their shit, and open up that head armor.
Thank god someone else has some common sense. My first question a few minutes in was "can you drown out the noise you make with natural noise? Why not live by the ocean or something?" And then they ACTUALLY explain that YES you CAN do that and you're free to scream at the top of your lungs as long as you're near loud natural noise. So WHY in the world are the main characters not exploiting that? They know that they can! Never before has a solution to the problem the characters are facing been more blatant than in this movie. If the monsters track you by sound, the last place you want to be is a quiet place. You want to be in the noisiest place possible. However, as for the guns thing, I think the movie made it pretty clear that the monsters' exoskeleton was impenetrable to bullets. On the wall by the whiteboard there are several articles and headlines saying that the monsters are invincible. And so what I think the movie meant to imply was that hitting the monster with a barrage of high pitched sound would disorient them and also reveal their video game weak point. Then you could attack the weak point for massive damage. I still don't buy that the monsters managed to destroy society before someone figured that out, but the suspension of disbelief for that is MUCH less than the disbelief that the characters aren't using the river to their advantage more. I, like you, was totally distracted throughout the entire movie by that fact and it really did ruin the experience a bit. I did think Emily Blunt did a phenomenal job acting though. For example, her face when the little boy turned on the toy rocket ship really sold how grave of a mistake it was.
TierZoo Love you as a person but someone in a comment above did make a good point. It'd be hell to avoid making noise that was distinct from the natural noises, even if they were louder. Not all sound is equal, which is why a single piccolo can be heard above eight trumpets in a marching band.
Holy shit it's you! Live your videos mate. Nice zo see that we have a common taste in content. Btw. Did you ever concider making a video on geneticly engineered mosquitos? 'Cause it's some crazy stuff.
animals are pattern seeking. Sure you could buy some time like that but I imagine it wouldn't take too long for the creatures to distinguish between natural river sounds and unnatural human sounds. You could get away with dropping a single fish or yelling under the waterfall one day out of the blue, but I imagine that any consistent human action would be figured out. To me, there are bigger flaws in this movie than that one.
Hey my dude, nice video. With grain in a granary there can be a "bubble" of air or rotten / insect eaten grain. So grain can collapse and suffocate people. Sometimes the grain can be 100% solid and it would be kind of like walking in snow, u don't sink in. So if the "bubble collapsed" then the rest of the grain could potentially be stable. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grain_entrapment
@@Quandry1 "Like quicksand" is actually how it works. You have to be really careful if for some reason you have to get into a grain silo because you can end up getting slowly sucked under.
Never quote Wikipedia lol. Meg explained it correctly what happened. And the reason they stop sinking as fast was because they spread their weight out. That is how you can maybe survive quicksand as well
@@vids2002 "never quote Wikipedia" was relevant in the early 2000s but has since been shown to have not only references, but constant updates to keep it a quality source.
I agree with almost all of what you said, except for one thing. The monsters have armor plating; the noise from the cochlear implant made them open up the plating on their heads and revealed their weak spots, allowing guns to become effective. One does have to wonder why that makes them open their plating to reveal their weak spots (presumably eardrums). Wouldn't they close up even tighter to protect themselves from the sound?
I guess the armor plating opening is them covering their ears. If I can compare it to humans, if we cover our ears reflexively we have no defense mechanism for that moment because both our arms are in use. I don't know how well that translates to these monsters my point is more when a creature of any sort defends from one kind of annoyance or pain they usually leave something else unprotected
It's unrealistic to think that the "armor" plating can stop high caliber weapons. The mere force of a bullet hitting these plates (that apparently can move) would cause some damage from the mere force of the plates hitting their organs.
RealMetalGaming not really I mean they’re alien creatures, earthly rules and physics don’t apply to them, so if the writers wanted to make the plates indestructible they can.
@@stopcake what is unrealist to me is that in about a minute i think it would become obviouse that the creatures are super good at hearing things...and that if a creature has super hearing then perhaps if you overload that hearing it may cause them to hurt. I mean jesus...its almost something that you would slap forehead and think "DUH!" but also as mentioned. using a sound system to trigger a remote controled sound from somewhere away from you..would be a good defensive system. i mean it was shown that they will stop an attack and goto another source of sound in mid attack. so wire up some alarms at all four sides of the property..if your near the east side and a creature gets close hit the west side alarm and make a run for it...i didnt think this movie was stupid...but it coulda been better by alot.
Is anyone gonna talk about cochlear implants being unable to emit sound at all?! The whole point of them is that they transmit sound to the cochlear by electricity and NOT sound.
I’ve noticed this in so many movies. It seems like accurately representing the time it takes to push a tiny human out of your body is too inconvenient for the pacing of the film, so women just drop ‘em and then walk away like nothing happened
Really? I was in and out in 30 minutes and it did not hurt at all.... I mean they were both scheduled c-sections with lots of medication...but still. ;)
I very much don’t understand why they were having another baby. There were pharmacies so they could definitely get birth control methods(if it was me, I would have used pill+condom). Based on my knowledge of human baby, they are incredibly good at crying. Why would you take the risk??
Regarding the "why didn't the use the secret, soundproof room?", I think there was a scene showing him actually finishing it. So I don't think they actually had a soundproof room yet.
I don’t understand why you would wait almost 2 years since this apocalypse started to decide to make a sound proof room, just because you’re having a baby? Surely it would benefit you whether you had a baby or not
Deaf people would be the first to die in this scenario. Remember that deaf guy telling the story about how he loudly farted everywhere because nobody ever told him it made noise until his first gf told him when he was in his mid 20'?
Yeah, according to my nurse friend, deaf people make quite a few noises they do not know they make, one makes a groan/growl type noise when you grab their hands, they may walk heavily, and some more things
How can they run effortlessly through the woods and not collide with trees? Do they emit some sort of noise for echolocation? They're blind, so they must. but, wouldn't that also help them find the humans?
Playing constant noise over the speakers wouldn't work. The monsters would come to the noise and destroy it. They can't destroy a river, so they eventually ignore it (or they recognize water and learn that it's not food). A lot of good points by Adam but some could use a bit more thinking through.
If some of these "solutions" presented by Adam to resolve the issues he had with the film don't make sense, it's at least debatable that the reason for those solutions is because the film didn't explore those ideas very well to begin with.
The fact that no one figured out loud sounds hurt this thing is moronic. We literally have anti riot weapons that make loud noises! This thing would have lasted five minutes!
The reason grain entrapment happens is because of voids (air pockets) that occur from basic physics and can crust over for some more structural integrity. Once they break. Watch out. You're covered in seconds. Once the pockets are filled, then obviously the flow would stop and there would be plenty of structural integrity. That part seems pretty real. The rest of the criticisms I get. There seems to be a real misunderstanding of how sound works in this movie. Like creaks from basement stairs can be heard by these monsters? Then you're already dead because they can hear your heartbeat.
I think the biggest science based criticism of this movie is the drop off of sound intensity over a distance. Sound drops off very quickly. Over a few dozen feet the creek of stairs would be quieter than a gentle breeze blowing through a tree near you. They said the creatures go over to the loudest sound so wtf why would they be scared.
The director said that they wore no shoes so that they can feel out for anything that would make noise, whereas in shoes they would just put all their weight onto something without noticing, like leaves
Also, shoes wrapped in towels would work for like, *maybe* a week before they degrade. In fact, shoes are one of those overlooked things in post-apocalyptic movies. They degrade very fast with heavy use, so with no infrastructure, most people would be going around barefoot anyway.
@veodok2343 you act like people don't walk with shoes every day 😂😂😂😂😂. By this logic they would all be naked because shirts don't last more than 3 weeks under heavy use
The weakness of the aliens bothered me the most. I had one of those mosquito ringtones and would play them in crowded rooms just to watch the kiddos look around confused while the adults had no idea what they were talking about. The moment that someone noticed they were attracted to sound, someone would IMMEDIATELY test to see if a dog whistle worked against them. Seriously, if dogs go apeshit from that sound, pretty sure it would work for aliens too. That was as annoying as the first Easter egg in Ready Player One.
@@transformersrevenge9 I don't think you understand just how loud some of the sonic systems get. Vuvuzelas get to 127 db just on lung power, so pumping one with compressed air could vibrate the aliens' little fun-sacks all the way through their magic flesh.
I agree with everything you said for the most part about what you disliked in the film. Except the part about how the deaf girl figured out their weakness. Besides the cornfield scene where the creature runs away from her, there is a scene in the corn silo where the kids witness the creature running away from the noise caused by her hearing aid.
It happened in the truck scene too. If anything it annoyed me that she didn’t figure it out sooner, so I was surprised Adam thought it made no sense she figured it out at all.
When she played the sound through the mic, wasn't it playing through the headphones? not "powered speakers" as adam put it? Adam seemed to get awfully upset about something that didn't even happen lol. Did he also just not notice the fact that the "armor" around the creature's face lifted when the frequency was being played so the shotgun could work?
I also sort of had an issue with when he talks about the monster in the water, we see him come from the room above down the stairs and into the water, as well as the room that they don't use they had short scenes showing the kids making the room by plastering the newspaper on the wall. Apart from that I had no issue with the review I enjoyed it but it doesn't mean someone can't.
I was disappointed at how underutilized the visuals are for the actual storytelling. This could play out as a practically silent movie where the cinematographer could really go nuts on visual cues, colors, visual symbolism and so on to really have a unique modern silent film. Also, the music could have been used a lot better if they hadn't brought on Marco Beltrami (a composer whose only score I can remember one bit of was from the original Scream) and instead a composer who actually portrays complex moods in unique ways, even if it was Trent Reznor, Clint Mansell, or Jon Brion, the movie would benefit from a more talented composer. The film itself is fine, there were some tense moments but mostly it just strikes me as one big missed opportunity. Maybe the studio would have had a harder time selling something that wasn't so safe and by the numbers, or maybe Kraczinski being a new director either resulted in him not being allowed to be ambitious or being too afraid to be ambitious. Either way, I saw this movie twice (only because two different people I know wanted to see it) and I'm likely never gonna watch it again, it's pretty dull once the novelty wears thin.
I didn’t like how the Aliens were defying the laws of nature. Chitin has its limits. Armour Piercing Rounds can break ANYTHING and if this creature’s Chitin wasn’t broken on the outside it WOULD STILL DIE!!! Air bubbles form underneath tough Chitin if projectiles hit it hard enough and would kill the “Angel Of Death” pretty quickly.
Even if the Chitin was made of some 20mm super carbon fiber, the pressure is just insane, all the energy of the bullets would be transfered and explode the flesh inside, they should've had some type of regeneration if not killed so it would be more believable
A bit late but even worse, they die to the impact of the meteorite they came from. Biggest plothole in the whole thing. If they die to shotguns to their insides they'd sure die to a meteorite impact.
I haven't seen the movie so I don't know the exact context behind the grain scene- but grain does actually work a lot like quick sand ! It's called grain entrapment/engulfment , and a lot of the cases of it do involve children. I could ramble on about it, but if you want to learn more on it just google "grain engulfment" and it'll lead to some good resources. Other than that- great video as always Adam !
first of all knowyourmeme.com/memes/grain-entrapment second grain only works like that if the augur is on, otherwise it behaves like a solid. quick sand is a non Newtonian fluid, for your purposes horrible comparison, it reacts inconsistantly to different pressures, a person standing on quick sand will at first apply a pressure of m*g ( mass * gravity, 1 pascal = Kg m/s^2 or mass* acceleration) and then as they sink their body parts join the reference of the quicksand meaning eventually the pressure to make quicksand flow can no longer be achieved and they stop sinking. Grain is not a fluid at all its better to compare it to a beach, have you ever seen anyone drown on a beach?
That's false. My grandfather died in a grain silo, augur off. He fell from the top of the bin, into the grain and was engulfed by the corn. Suffocated. People knew he fell but couldn't get to him in time. In fact, the fire department had to cut the side of the silo. Perhaps you haven't accounted for actually FALLING into it. Or maybe you were not trying to say that if you fell into it it would behave this way, and you were simply stating that if you were standing on it to begin with, you will not sink into it. On another note, I have personally witnessed sinking into corn in a knee deep silo, starting from a standing state. If you don't move, you're good, however, moving frequently will cause you to sink. I will admit not quickly, but annoyingly if you are trying to get out.
First of all know your meme is not exactly a great reference for a debate. Second the first line on said website it "Grain Entrapment refers to when a person gets submerged in grain when the pile of grain they were standing on, like quicksand." Third grain entrapment can also be caused by an empty space beneath the grain which causes the grain to practically collapse under the weight and consume whatever is above it within about twenty seconds. Also as I said before I don't know the exact context behind the scene so- just from what's shown in this video the augur could very much so be on, but even if it wasn't you could still very easily be engulfed. Also yeah people have drowned at the beach and its not the same at all?
His whole problem with the scene is how inconsistent it was. First its like Jello and swallows the kid, then a monster can play trampoline on the door with the kids under it and fuck all happens.
The water from the slashed pipes was running into the room, the noise was new and interesting enough for the monster to investigate, and it probably pushed the matress aside or ripped it open.
@@awfulcreature3224 I find it hard to believe that these monsters investigate every single new noise in the environment. Especially ones made by innocuous things like water.
@@DarthPRB I'll give you that, however if I've been prowling around somewhere long enough and suddenly there's a ton of water where there wasn't before, without any natural explanations like rainfall or flood, I'd probably want to investigate.
Grain isn't quicksand. If you fall in you WILL DROWN. There are tons of regulations about silos and grain storage facilities because around 20 people a year, mostly children or untrained workers, fall in and drown. And weight distribution is bullshit. Grain functions like a vacuum, it WILL suck you down no matter how spread out you try to be. Realistically the grain should have actually pulled them both in when she was trying to rescue her brother as grain exerts a force of 400lbs which obviously a small girl should be overwhelmed by as she is certainly not 400lbs.
BlushingWillowTree / nice to know. I was talking about quicksand though because of his comparison to how it works in film. I didnt say anything about grain because I dont know how it works. But thanks for the info.
BlushingWillowTree weight distribution is not bullshit. It’s a fundamental of static physics, don’t talk about this stuff like you know it all when you clearly don’t know that much about it besides grain regulations.
I know a fair bit of sign language (having taken three years of it in high school) and I can say that there are gestures to describe sound in the language. You can even add modifiers to express how loud or soft a sound is. There's no excuse as to why the father hasn't told his son that smaller sound can be drowned out with louder sound.
What are you talking about with the weakness coming out of nowhere? They telegraphed it so hard and so obviously... I thought the issue was that she took so long to realise it.
Daniel Bak that was kind of the point not that it came out of nowhere but the fact that she had seen ot react to her loud ass hearing aid noise the same time she is. Youd think she'd notice that the noise hurting her is also hurting it. It annoyed me that he never wanted her to go downstairs for some reason. Like why? Maybe because of the oh fuck feedback loop? If she was allowed to have gone down to his workshop earlier shed have figured it out even sooner. Its like when a video game is harder to extend its play time not because its actually hard. Something like shitty controls or overtly hard enemies and shitty controls.
Stop disliking things I like Adam. You're not allowed to have a different opinion on things that are popular, you're just a hipster that's trying to be edgy and cool!
My theater audience laughed out loud when John Krasinski put the baby inside the box. Also when did John Krasinski and Emily Blunt have time to bang? Did they do it by the waterfall?
Went to see the movie with a friend and some of her family. I totally came to the same conclusion on the ride home, but they laughed and thought it was weird or dumb. Glad I'm not the only one who thought this though.
Heres another thing, if they have speakers on the farm why dont they use those as decoys if monsters approach the house? Monster got in the house? No problem, just set off a speaker out by the silo to lure them away
As far as the sound proof room, they were still building it. When Krasinski and Blunt went down there with the child it was the first time they even tested it. How would they have courage enough to test it without a baby crying?
You make a few good points, but some of these are stretching pretty far, or forget information that is given to the audience. The sound proof basement is established as something that they didn't know would work, and they built it in hopes that it would work when the baby arrived. I don't think that was a silo hatch waiting to open, I think it was an old silo that gave way to weight because it was old. The grain isn't acting like quicksand, it is acting like grain. They land feet first, and start to sink. When they are on the metal, it displaces all the weight and continues to do so when the monster lands on it. They are no longer at risk of "drowning" but of being crushed by the weight. The water in the basement scene shows the monster come down the stairs, and before she even begins walking through the water, they show the creature lower itself into the water. She wasn't walking slowly for no reason, she was afraid of stepping on a monster that could rip her in half. You missed a bunch of info up to this point that the movie gives the audience to set up future scenes, but this one is the worst because it is shown twice beforehand that the creatures are sensitive to her implant, and that builds to the end of the movie. The whole climax of the film made no sense to you, because you missed important information that the movie gives you? I understand some people stop paying as much attention to a film when they realize they don't like it, but these are your reasons for not liking the film, and most of them are solved by just watching the film. Playing a song would work, like you said, if you are cool with living in a house that is constantly blasting loud music. The waterfall is a place that allows loud noise when you are next to it, like, right next to it. So the recording of the waterfall would have to be loud enough to drown out sound in every room of their house. A very specific frequency hurts them, the feedback loop of that specific frequency played loudly right in front of them incapacitates them momentarily along with also removing the armor plates from its face. When the plates are removed, then they can be killed with guns. Even if guns just worked, with no extra steps, we have no idea how many of these things there are. If you kill one, good luck killing 12 at once. I normally just give you the benefit of a doubt when you miss important info that makes your issue go away, but this has started happening a lot.
on you point about the grain - you don't simply "sink" into grain unless there's some sort of leak or hole at the bottom of the silo (or the auger which pulls grain from the silo is activated), in which case it would form a 'sinkhole' at the top of grain over that hole. not sure if that was happening in the movie since i haven't seen it.
The thing about the kids’ weight when they were in the silo is pretty obvious to me. It also works with water. You float much more easily when you are lying on water than when you are standing all straight. The grains could be assimilated to a fluid in this situation m. I am baffled that anyone doesn’t understand that. I agree that he just really didn’t pay attention. But that’s pretty hilarious to me. Sometimes he makes those comments that are supposed to be scientific explanations to show that some scenes don’t make sense, and he ends up being soooo wrong. Like when he said that if it wasn’t for gravity people’s skin wouldn’t get saggy as they age. How stupid do you even have to be to say stuff like that? The fact that he didn’t even check that before uploading the video is even worse. I think he doesn’t understand stuff as much as he thinks he does which is dangerously arrogant because he is less likely to learn anything with that attitude.
Giovanni SWISH LORD Stay at the waterfall for their entire lives? Away from good bedding, cooked food, Radio & sound equipment, etc. It pretty evident that they didn't just care about survival but wanted to maintain a normal life, hence why they had the baby.
the room with the mattress was recently made for the upcoming baby. it was shown while they were preparing it. when they go with the baby there he clearly says "it worked", meaning they didn´t try the room beforehand. that´s it byeee.
@@transformersrevenge9 supersonic bullets cause high pitch noises that are mascarated by the "boom" so our ears can't detect so yeah the monster would be having a stroke
Reading some of these comments gave me a twitch. I’ll say this, though; you should be watching movie reviews to get a different perspective, not to validate your feelings.
How is it a 'different perspective' if he's bashing the film for plot holes because he failed to notice the exposition of them during the film? He literally goes on a massive rant about how at the end they could shoot the monsters with guns but fails to realise it was only until they were injured by the high frequency noise that they were susceptible to gun shots. Like, don't criticise a film if you can't pick up on simple plot points
I'm guessing he didn't complete miss the fact that the monster's armor came off, he just didn't feel like that was a good enough explanation for why we could not blow these things the hell up. They sit there and open up their faces when they're trying to listen, so i assume that counted as an opening in their armor too, why couldn't they be shot right through their face holes with a rifle from far away? They seem really easy to trick, after all. I didn't dislike this movie, but many of the points Adam brings up here are completely valid, and even though the presence of these plot holes didn't ruin my experience, that doesn't mean they don't exist, nor does it mean someone is wrong for pointing noticing them.
Ryan LaJoie You're just assuming that, despite him literally using the criticism of 'why couldn't the American army just shoot them?'. I'm not some crazy fan obsessed with this movie or anything, I agree with a lot of Adams points, but it is a bit bullshit to make arguments that don't make sense. Also OP was implying that people were hating on Adam just because he had a different opinion which is obviously not the case is they even bothered to read any
as for the waterfall bit, it's really unreasonable to think it would be easy to migrate over to the waterfall and live there forever. they have a farm with plumbing, supplies, food, shelter etc already there. theres no way they could build another house without getting killed while constructing it, and even if they got a tent there without getting killed, they'd have to migrate back to the farm every time to get more food/water which puts them in more unnecessary danger. I do agree about the basement part though, was very stupid to not utilize that more.
a funny looking squash Well in the movie they were renovating the sound proof basement for the baby, so the basement wasn’t finished through most of it
it would be clever for them to hide underwater when the creatures are near. Terrestrial animals cannot identify the direction of sound underwater. An ocean/river front property would work fine and would already be in place. They needed to establish a range of this hearing also. If a creature could hear 10s of thousands of miles away then it Could differentiate a yell from All the waterfalls and rivers between the target and the Creature.
The waterfall would be a water source. You can shit in a river and it would wash downstream. Food can be brought with them or they can eat fish or they can use the truck to transport the grain from the silo which would last a decent amount of time. Tent or natural shelter would work wonders if you need to survive hell if they had done that, within 30 days they'd have a fairly decent shelter, just look up bushcraft videos on TH-cam and you can see some examples. If your home is irradiated you wouldn't stay there, you'd go somewhere else, do the same with sound monsters
also why the hell does that old man scream near other people? is he an asshole who has a drag-someone-to-hell-with-me who as a Deathwish to kill the father?
"can you not just tie some towels to your shoes?" oh man i laughed at that one. Hope i get meet adam after the apololypse one day, living in a mud hut down by the river with towel feet so he can fart as he pleases.
@@jannesbaade5645 grain in a silo can form a hard upper layer due to air exposure drying the top grain out. The grain below is still very soft and you do sink in that stuff. The crust can cause air pockets that give way to the soft grain. In theory that could be prevented with good weight distribution, like snow shoes do. But I don't think one door would be good enough for 2 kids and a monster. Maybe one kid.
Regarding the silo “quick sand:” yes, that’s a real danger and that can really happen if you fall in. Like any large pile of tiny things, there’s enough room and air underneath the grains for them to give way under you and swallow you up if there is enough concentrated weight. My family has owned a farm for several generations, and I’m very aware of how dangerous it can be if you aren’t careful. Google it and you can find articles addressing this as well, and how often it still happens. Also, like someone else answered, it’s like how snowshoes keep you from falling into thick, high drifts of snow. The door displaces the concentrated weight so that there is not enough weight per square area to make the grain underneath it move. ***themoreyouknooooow
You live on a farm so you already know this. But there are tons of regulations about silos and grain storage facilities because around 20 people a year, mostly children or untrained workers, fall in through air gaps and drown. And weight distribution is bullshit. Grain functions like a vacuum, it WILL suck you down no matter how spread out you try to be. That door will push them faster not stop them from sinking. Think of using water boards (like snow shoes but for water) on a different surface, a pool of olive oil or milk for example. You will no longer be able to float on either of those because their density in completely different to water. Realistically the grain should have actually pulled them both in when she was trying to rescue her brother as grain exerts a force of 400lbs per square inch which obviously a small girl should be overwhelmed by as she is certainly not even close to weighing 400lbs.
I get that you can sink if there are air gaps but the movie treats it as if it’s water. When you go to the beach you don’t drown by standing on the sand... and snow is a whole different thing it’s ice crystals, not completely a solid. That’s like saying Scrooge McDuck’s pool of coins would work in the real human world as it does in the cartoon. Ridiculous.
The nail thing.. there is a nail exactly like that in my house in the middle of the attic coming out of the floor and I wonder every single day how this happened. I'm guessing now it's just to get us killed when the monsters come.
*SPOILER* Agree with most but you’re incorrect on the implant rant. It happened 4 times and every time it noticeably hurt her. The 3rd didn’t repel the monster because she disconnected it, then finally realized it in the radio room(I thought she was a moron because she realized too late and thus was the reason for her dad dying). (1st was in corn field, 2nd was in the silo, 3rd was in the truck). Also bullets don’t work on them, it was first exposed/weakened by the sound that made it vulnerable. Obviously still tons of plot holes
Yeah that bugged me in this video, he missed the very obviously established “the feedback from the girls hearing aid fucks em up” plot point. And the monsters only expose their fleshy unarmored super ears when listening out for REALLY quiet noises, so in the middle of a battlefield the monsters can stay armored (bullet proof) and still hear.
Was about to write these exact details, you're right. The movie thankfully left a few things as "show don't tell", so they might've been missed by some people. Would've been cheesy and unnecessary that the characters went "The high pitched sounds expose their head's weak bits!"
Agreed, the only other thing that bugged me about his Criticism was the truck. The kids ran towards the truck because the Dad saw or heard the monster ( I don’t quite remember) since they weren’t waiting for the Dad but they were hiding in the truck because they were essentially in a open field. Now I do find the whole bit with them driving it back to the House odd and confusing. Would coasting that card don’t the hill make a good amount of noise ?
20:01 did you miss the part of the whiteboard that said the monsters had bullet-proof plating? And the plating gets knocked off of it's head because it's injured from the sound and that's how they shoot and kill it? How was that not extremely obvious?
He did the same thing in his Edge of Tomorrow review. I do not know whether he is too lazy to rewatch the movies and find anwsers or does this on purpose knowing that a number of people look to his reviews for guidance as to what movie the might watch and thus do not have the info themselves.
Meik Vincenco I think he gets mad whenever people tell him he can't dislike a movie and he ended picking apart what he could without watching again. Or maybe he gets too distracted by his thoughts. I mean he got confused when the monster came out of the water, even though you see it submerge itself just 20 seconds earlier. He was probably still wondering why they weren't using that room in the beginning. I don't think the movie is brilliant. It works more as a thriller than horror, and it relys on the convenience of the baby coming sooner than expected, which isn't too unreasonable. I watched twice, and I still don't understand why they got in the truck at the end, or what Jim was planning on doing with the axe. I think there are lots of problems when you ask more and more questions, but I think john Krasinski was focusing more on making a movie about family rather than building this world he created, which I think is the major problem with this film.
loco ludwin I just checked, and you're right. The whiteboard in the scenes YMS shows you doesn't have the word "armored" in them, but in the movie (within the first 10-20 mins or so) the whiteboard does say "armored" underneath the "confirmed" category.
The movie is still on theaters, are you really expecting him to pay again to watch a movie he didn't like just so he could go through every detail he may have missed on his initial viewing?
Little known fact, where the movie is set is actually on schrute farms after Dwight had passed. Jim moved there to honor his friend Dwight and because Dwight literally had thousands of dollars of canned goods and beats. If you want another fact, Mose was secretly the monster the entire time.
Grain silos are legit like that... Not to be trigger happy or anything, my great grandfather died from sinking. So sinking is real, dispersing body weight works, they would sink 100%
I was actually thinking that dispersing the body weight would counter act like in quick sand and that was why laying flat would save you from sinking. I think the initial sinking part was a bit quick, but struggling would cause you to sink faster so that may be why.
In the movie the Dressmaker someone jumps into a silo and sinks right away and it has traumatized me since the moment I saw that as like, the most terrifying way to die. I figure the logic is sound since the grain is light and small and a person is big and heavy so you'd go down like you do in a ball pit only you can't breathe...😨but then they hide under the door and people who don't know about weight distribution and silos are like wtf. It's hard to tell when a movie is being clever or just really dumb and changing the laws of physics for plot so I can't be mad but I think Adam overreacted on that one lol.
I thought the monsters' skin were actually kinda clearly implied to be bullet resistant, the reason Emily Blunt took the shot that she did is because the flesh underneath the creature's face had been exposed due to the loud feedback on the speakers
They needed to show that. At some point, the movie needed to explain how these rather mindless animals that simply skitter toward sound like a moth to a flame managed to take over the world without being blown up or electrocuted by sonic-trap versions of bug zappers and contact explosives. We actually see with the truck that they can't just rip apart even thin metal like tissue paper... so how'd they get through the thick armor of tanks? We're never told or shown enough to explain how they got into this state of affairs. The scope is far broader than it should have been. A set-up with one family encountering these mysterious, unknown creatures in a remote cabin would have taken care of all the issues.
With movies like these you need enough of a sense of disbelief to think that a) the armor can't be pierced by human methods, even nuclear, due to some unknown mechanism of the alien organism, which is entirely possible, and b) It's more likely that the high frequency causes some kind of disruption in the cells of the entire organism, including the soft-looking bits, which still might not be easily penetrated by bullets if you just fired at them normally.
Organic armor that will stop a 50 caliber round? A tank round? A daisy cutter bomb ( that can flatten a mountain)? Anti-tank round (designed to cut through armor)? A nuke? Have you ever seen what a 50 caliber machine gun can do? Watch the end of RAMBO 4 and see what it does to steel and flesh.

That makes sense, Misha, but it would have to be explained and demonstrated in detail in the film and it's not. A lone family encountering just these creatures in the wilderness works better than a world-wide apocalypse.

If I’m not mistaken, the reason why they didn’t use the basement because they were still building/preparing it. There was a scene in the movie where they could be seen putting up all of the newspapers. So they barely started using it in the last half but I agree with you, they could have utilized it better once they were finished with it.
Yeah, he was wrong when he said it wasn't referenced enough. Unfortunately, that particular thing took me completely out of the movie. You mean to tel me NO ONE thought of using high/low frequencies on the monsters with super acute hearing, after a year of that invasion going on? That shit would've been wrapped up in like 2 months after discovering their weakness. Also a bit corny that the reason they discover it and survive basically amounts to "the power of love", but that took me out less than how nonsensical it is that these creature were not eliminated almost as soon as they invaded.
You're right but that makes it even more stupid that she didn't work it out in the truck and actually turned it off thus causing the death of her father
It was written somewhere on the wall or on a newspaper that the aliens have an armor and guns don't work on them. When the girl was using her hearing aid at the end, we saw said armor open up. And thus, allowing for an opening that the bullet can go through.
Yeah, because the several intelligence agencies around the world that coordinate the military don't know wtf they're doing and are surpassed by a little deaf girl living in the armpit of nowhere...
I liked the movie so a lot of this seemed like nitpicking, but how did you not mention why he even knocked up the wife anyway? if it was a year after the beginning then they obviously got her pregnant while the monsters were there so like,,, 1. wear a condom because BIRTH IS LOUD and BABIES ARE LOUD or 2. dont bang because SEX IS LOUD
In my head they just wanted to have sex again since they hadn't had it since at least before it all happened. Maybe they were really quite or they went to the waterfall. And getting pregnant isn't hard. So maybe that one time was all that was needed. It happens a lot of the time. Also saying it here coz I'm typing this as he said it. They didn't move to the river coz they already had a whole farm with everything they need. Ok I'm typing this with the video playing and every time he makes a point I just what to type it here coz I'm already typing lol.
@@thomasoconnor8279 yeah but the movie proved that they were smart with all there planning and such, so impregnating someone doesn't make sense and has no upside. Also, they know that kids are dumb because the movie has been saying this throughout. So why have another?
It's an intriguing movie concept because it creates a scenario where farting loudly has a high probability to kill you, and that's possibly the funniest thing I've ever imagined, especially because how prevalent canned food is in post-apocalyptic scenarios: just imagine the family runs out of fresh supplies eventually and the only readily available foodstuffs are baked beans and spam
Errrrm... You did notice on one of the Exposition Boards it said the Creatures were Armored ya? When the High Frequency damaged it the armored plates on its' head unhinged as it writhed in agony, exposing a Weakspot. Hense the ease of Entry for the Buckshot/Slug to kill it. That or when it scream/lunched at them its mouth was open and the shotgun blast entered there.
+Jj O,leary its a fucking predator solely hunting on sound...aka it has very fine hearing. i doubt the military would need more than 5 minutes after that insight to figure out that sound also might be a good weapon against this things.
But how long would it take to figure out that the monsters operate based on sound? You'd only be able to know something like that after the world has gone quiet.
Well with most of your front line units dying instead of reporting everything they notice, it might be possible. Did they ever explain how many of these monsters came to Earth? Might have been overwhelmed too fast. There are so many things happening on a battle field that it is hard to realise what exactly might or might not have enabled the death of a few enemies.
And guns only work when their whole ear head thing is open. Their heads are armored otherwise and they wouldn’t have been able to be damaged until they were exposed to the sound. I feel like a lot of people don’t get this and it’s really obvious. So a couple of your critiques were just factually wrong.
Might have been noticed without anybody understanding why. Even if it had been, there is still a bunch of them and military resources were already depleted. Aside from that, how is it stupid for the things to have a vunerable organ protected by armour that is exposed under certain circumstances stupid? Might have evolved that way. They are blind as well. Pretty bad in this instance, but that is how they are.
Meik Vincenco Aside from that, how is it stupid for the things to have a vunerable organ protected by armour that is exposed under certain circumstances stupid? Might have evolved that way. So you are saying that species evolve not becoming the most fit for survival.. What advantage provides having a weakspot revelable?
Humans are considered to be very much fit for survival. Want me to list our weak spots? Maybe they simply did not evolve to hunt humans using technology. They just made contact with Earth.
Because remember kiddies. In America, not even the Military has ammunition that can pierce armor, nor is commonly handed out to soldiers who are fighting giant monsters much less against guys in Kevlar. Sorry, but the "they are armored" point is utterly bullshit.
24 Frames Of Nick there is an actual method to not farting loud, but it’s completely irrelevant for this movie honestly. We don’t need to be hyper realistic, otherwise films like blade runner wouldn’t be well received because of nitpicks

@@Commandant64 then they need to show those monster destroy jet and helicopter too because no matter how strong that thing is, it can't fly.
Btw the monsters themselves make sounds too, so they would basically attack each other all the time

17:31 Honestly the idea of permanently keeping the song Despacito blaring as loud as possible while on a constant loop to distract the creatures sounds like a worse type of hell than what the movie even presented.
it doesnt have to be despacito :(
Actually, constant loud sound(s) can be very negative to people's well-being.

I mean it would make sense if their were dozens of these creatures and they overran the military because they would think bullets work I mean sure we use other things besides bullets but considering their speed it would take more time to do all of those things compared to a gun. I would have loved it if the kids stepped on it too at the end.
It would be too loud. Have you ever tried to hammer a nail - rather, even just trying to get rid of a nail?
@@simplicity4766
A simple fix would be to get a chunk of wood, screw a hole on it, then place said wood on top of the nail by slotting it through the screwed hole.
@@simplicity4766
The easiest way to remove a nail is to put a hammerhead's back to the nail and just pull. It might make a light 'plop' sound at most as long as you pull straight up so as to not bend the wood from pulling nail at an angle.
Why is the nail even there in the first place??? Grain actually forms air pockets that people can sink in. The door distributes weight to prevent this. It's one of the few things they actually thought through.
yeah, when they spread their bodies out it would distribute the weight far more evenly across the surface which would prevent them from sinking. Like how the metal door thingy does.

I love how you just causally say 'You've lost some kids in the neighborhood to drowning in grain."
It's freaking hilarious.
Joanna Newell hey yeah, why was the speaker set up like that? Imagine if a small noise triggered that feedback loop.

But how did she know it was the ear device?

Thank god someone else has some common sense. My first question a few minutes in was "can you drown out the noise you make with natural noise? Why not live by the ocean or something?"
And then they ACTUALLY explain that YES you CAN do that and you're free to scream at the top of your lungs as long as you're near loud natural noise.
Not all sound is equal, which is why a single piccolo can be heard above eight trumpets in a marching band.

animals are pattern seeking.

@E . A Cinemawins does give a short explanation as to why the nail did that.
That sounds like the title of a B-movie that would air on SyFy.
Hey my dude, nice video. With grain in a granary there can be a "bubble" of air or rotten / insect eaten grain. So grain can collapse and suffocate people. Sometimes the grain can be 100% solid and it would be kind of like walking in snow, u don't sink in. So if the "bubble collapsed" then the rest of the grain could potentially be stable.
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grain_entrapment
collapsing isn't the same as very slowly sinking deeper and deeper into it like quick sand.
@@Quandry1 "Like quicksand" is actually how it works. You have to be really careful if for some reason you have to get into a grain silo because you can end up getting slowly sucked under.
@@megg.4108 This is absolutely how it works. Grain silos are never something to be in alone.

Also didn’t these things get grenades shot at them and tanks? Wouldn’t those make a lot of noise?
The reason grain entrapment happens is because of voids (air pockets) that occur from basic physics and can crust over for some more structural integrity. Once they break. Watch out. You're covered in seconds. Once the pockets are filled, then obviously the flow would stop and there would be plenty of structural integrity. That part seems pretty real.
The rest of the criticisms I get. There seems to be a real misunderstanding of how sound works in this movie. Like creaks from basement stairs can be heard by these monsters? Then you're already dead because they can hear your heartbeat.
Mike Williams cuz ur heartbeat is that loud
Your heartbeat at least has the rest of your body to muffle it, though...
I have been in grain bins like that before. You don't sink unless you're a fucking idiot
I mean they are kids so that checks out.
I think the biggest science based criticism of this movie is the drop off of sound intensity over a distance. Sound drops off very quickly. Over a few dozen feet the creek of stairs would be quieter than a gentle breeze blowing through a tree near you. They said the creatures go over to the loudest sound so wtf why would they be scared.
me: *carefully pays attention for when adam calls him jim*
I fucking flipped out when he said that
The director said that they wore no shoes so that they can feel out for anything that would make noise, whereas in shoes they would just put all their weight onto something without noticing, like leaves
Also, shoes wrapped in towels would work for like, *maybe* a week before they degrade. In fact, shoes are one of those overlooked things in post-apocalyptic movies. They degrade very fast with heavy use, so with no infrastructure, most people would be going around barefoot anyway.
What of socks then, thinner but still feeling and insulating?
Socks would fall apart in, like, a day of walking.
Except a dog whistle, or any other high frequency sound, wouldn't hurt them at all.
Yeah man... But you know what... I sure as shit would rather be watching Ready Player One instead of this pretentious garbage.

Vertigo Gnome and another scene when they're in the truck, the sound is piercing and she turns it off, monster immediately attacks.
Oh hey, here's a question... why didn't they immediately use that super obvious weakness against the monsters?
My favorite part was when jim and pam finally got together

@@hdnfbp That's why I say to everyone that the aliens would've been killed instantly
Peachewi it only happens when the auger is on or theres a hold in the bottom of the silo. Which means it would loud as heck.
first of all knowyourmeme.com/memes/grain-entrapment second grain only works like that if the augur is on, otherwise it behaves like a solid. quick sand is a non Newtonian fluid, for your purposes horrible comparison, it reacts inconsistantly to different pressures, a person standing on quick sand will at first apply a pressure of m*g ( mass * gravity, 1 pascal = Kg m/s^2 or mass* acceleration) and then as they sink their body parts join the reference of the quicksand meaning eventually the pressure to make quicksand flow can no longer be achieved and they stop sinking.
Second the first line on said website it "Grain Entrapment refers to when a person gets submerged in grain when the pile of grain they were standing on, like quicksand."
Third grain entrapment can also be caused by an empty space beneath the grain which causes the grain to practically collapse under the weight and consume whatever is above it within about twenty seconds.
"How did the monster get underwater?" You see the monster dive underneath the water when she wakes up.
Pneumonox yes but how did it get inside? Lee/John put the mattress back over the bunker when he left.
The water from the slashed pipes was running into the room, the noise was new and interesting enough for the monster to investigate, and it probably pushed the matress aside or ripped it open.
I don’t know how the hell he missed that, they literally showed it entering
@@awfulcreature3224 I find it hard to believe that these monsters investigate every single new noise in the environment. Especially ones made by innocuous things like water.
@@DarthPRB I'll give you that, however if I've been prowling around somewhere long enough and suddenly there's a ton of water where there wasn't before, without any natural explanations like rainfall or flood, I'd probably want to investigate.
Quicksand doesnt act like that either. You sink until you reach a level of buoyancy. About chest level. Its a weight displacement thing I believe.
More like YOUR weight is displaced lmao get rekt
Shane Benjamson / your mom must be proud.
True! I was actually getting annoyed by how hard they were emphasizing it, as if we weren’t able to understand it the first time
Stop disliking things I like Adam. You're not allowed to have a different opinion on things that are popular, you're just a hipster that's trying to be edgy and cool!
I see you everywhere
Dude you are absolutely everywhere. Starman is not only in the sky, he's everywhere.
I dislike this review. Bye!
My theater audience laughed out loud when John Krasinski put the baby inside the box.
Also when did John Krasinski and Emily Blunt have time to bang? Did they do it by the waterfall?
BattleUp Saber they used sign language for all the moaning and dirty talk
Went to see the movie with a friend and some of her family. I totally came to the same conclusion on the ride home, but they laughed and thought it was weird or dumb. Glad I'm not the only one who thought this though.
THANK YOU THAT'S WHAT IV'E BEEN WONDERING SINCE I SAW IT AGH!
Also why is the fucking box open when the water is everywhere?? Did the monster open it? Did John Krasinski just leave it open when he left?
Strangely enough that makes sense except for he fact that I’m sure they wouldn’t leave their kids alone like that unless they really couldn’t help it.
Thank you for saying everything I thought should be said!
Live near the water. The film is sloppy.
Giovanni SWISH LORD
Stay at the waterfall for their entire lives? Away from good bedding, cooked food, Radio & sound equipment, etc. It pretty evident that they didn't just care about survival but wanted to maintain a normal life, hence why they had the baby.
the room with the mattress was recently made for the upcoming baby. it was shown while they were preparing it. when they go with the baby there he clearly says "it worked", meaning they didn´t try the room beforehand. that´s it byeee.
wouldn't the loud noises of the guns the military would be consistently shooting at them be too loud for them?
I know that this is a bit late but if a truck hindered the monster so much then how did they destroy tanks and armored vehicles
Except loud noises don't hurt the monsters at all.
@@transformersrevenge9 supersonic bullets cause high pitch noises that are mascarated by the "boom" so our ears can't detect so yeah the monster would be having a stroke

Reading some of these comments gave me a twitch. I’ll say this, though; you should be watching movie reviews to get a different perspective, not to validate your feelings.
amen
My guess is that Adam has become pretty jaded where horror is concerned. Reinventing it is a bit of a challenge.
Also OP was implying that people were hating on Adam just because he had a different opinion which is obviously not the case is they even bothered to read any
as for the waterfall bit,
it's really unreasonable to think it would be easy to migrate over to the waterfall and live there forever. they have a farm with plumbing, supplies, food, shelter etc already there. theres no way they could build another house without getting killed while constructing it, and even if they got a tent there without getting killed, they'd have to migrate back to the farm every time to get more food/water which puts them in more unnecessary danger.
My Side of the Mountain style.
The monsters can hear something dropping from a mile away... yet they can’t hear a persons heartbeat when they’re next to them 🤨🧐
they probably also have hearts that drowned it out
@@FrancisR420but it doesn't drown out something dropping a mile away? The movies own logic is louder noises cover the quieter ones. 0 points for you.

Grain in a Silo actually does behave like Quick Sand.
The rest was stupid though, yes.
Well, quicksands doesn't swallow you, but you might get stuck for a while and it's especially dangerous if you're near a body of water that has tides.
its actually worse than quicksand but yea basically just stupid
Does it? Quick Sand only behaves that way because there is an airpocket underneath. That shouldnt be in a Silo. Also it isn't nearly as deep.
This review is perfect but for the record there have been deaths in grain silos by suffocation.
MANY deaths
Marie Carie Wouldn't taht crush the kids under it though, since they're laying flat underneath it?
BlushingWillowTree sooo, no matter what, that scene doesn't make sense
I get that you can sink if there are air gaps but the movie treats it as if it’s water. When you go to the beach you don’t drown by standing on the sand... and snow is a whole different thing it’s ice crystals, not completely a solid. That’s like saying Scrooge McDuck’s pool of coins would work in the real human world as it does in the cartoon. Ridiculous.
That Guy Named Joe yupppppp
The nail thing.. there is a nail exactly like that in my house in the middle of the attic coming out of the floor and I wonder every single day how this happened. I'm guessing now it's just to get us killed when the monsters come.
*SPOILER*
Agree with most but you’re incorrect on the implant rant.
Why would getting stunned by that particular frequency somehow make their body/flesh unable to resist bullets anymore?
Was about to write these exact details, you're right. The movie thankfully left a few things as "show don't tell", so they might've been missed by some people. Would've been cheesy and unnecessary that the characters went "The high pitched sounds expose their head's weak bits!"
Chizuru Sakaki because theyre fictional aliens
Nick Perez where? it doesn't say that
loco ludwin I just checked, and you're right.
*Has to be quiet*
*Gets new hearing aid*
*Snaps fingers repeatedly*
i almost laughed when that happened because of how dumb it was (coming from someone who enjoyed the movie)
Little known fact, where the movie is set is actually on schrute farms after Dwight had passed. Jim moved there to honor his friend Dwight and because Dwight literally had thousands of dollars of canned goods and beats.
If you want another fact, Mose was secretly the monster the entire time.
Angela has been trying to talk to the aliens manager ever since they arrived
But Adam, during the shower jump scare, the fire works were going off so the monsters were focusing on them
exactly
There was a lot of shit like this he missed
Ok but who the fuck would alert their loved one that they are alive by slamming their hand on a door?
Zaberous I remember the fire works basically being done when she did that, I may be wrong though.
But it shouldn’t have been a jump scare. That was dumb
I was actually going to write the same thing, I knew someone who knew someone who died like that, too. It's really spooky.
I’m not trying to be the guy whining about TH-cam videos but he needs to let people know not to screw with those.
And the sinking only happens if there's an air pocket somewhere underneath you, so it even makes sense that it only sometimes acts as quicksand.
They literally say it's armored on that whiteboard that he mentioned.
"With movies like these you need enough of a sense of disbelief to think that a) the armor can't be pierced by human methods, even nuclear, due to some unknown mechanism of the alien organism, which is entirely possible, and b) It's more likely that the high frequency causes some kind of disruption in the cells of the entire organism, including the soft-looking bits, which still might not be easily penetrated by bullets if you just fired at them normally."

I live in illinois and people die from drowning in grain. It does in fact act like quicksand irl. Maybe not exactly like the film but its similar.
16:45 The implant thing was also referenced in the grain silo...
And sound based weapons do exist... not just in shopping malls. Actual weapons used to incapacitate people.
You're right but that makes it even more stupid that she didn't work it out in the truck and actually turned it off thus causing the death of her father
NubletPie202 yeah that's a plot hole, also Jim could've just tossed the very heavy axe into something else and distracted the monsters
Said Marin What about how the house magically has power without a generator.
if you're going to do nitpicky YMS reviews on small details like this, maybe wait for the DVD so you can double check if you're right or not.
"The creature design was actually pretty cool".
I don't know Adum. Look at 13:12. The design looks like a stock photo of a monster.
The close ups at the end of the movie are pretty good and show a lot of detail. I guess that's what he meant.
I thought the design was not scary
A good design is the thing from 1982
harold Deoliveira
Everyone here understands it is a joke. They are just discussing what the monster actually looks like. You are the dense one.
It shouldve been apyr.
That went over my head for a second. I'm an idiot . . .
I thought it was funny that the mom gives birth in like 5 minutes.
My mom took 17 hours so she surely doesn't appreciate that either
It was written somewhere on the wall or on a newspaper that the aliens have an armor and guns don't work on them. When the girl was using her hearing aid at the end, we saw said armor open up. And thus, allowing for an opening that the bullet can go through.
That's like Boss Fighting in Videogames 101.
NarutardAndProud THAT MAKES IT EVEN WORSE! The military can figure that out if a little girl could.
I think that's giving military minds too much credit, heh.
Yeah, because the several intelligence agencies around the world that coordinate the military don't know wtf they're doing and are surpassed by a little deaf girl living in the armpit of nowhere...
But their weakness is high piercing sound so wouldn’t the bullets that make a high piercing sound kill them? The film has way to many plot holes
I love this new cinema sins video
hahahah exactly
I also saw that episode of Half in the bag.
+IndoorKid Seriously. Some of his complaints are perfectly reasonable but there's more half-assed nitpicks than I expect out of YMS videos as well.
RIP HARRY ANDERSON
I clapped when I understood your reference!
I think they only had the kid death scene so there would be a logical reason to have another baby
Repopulate the earth. Very important
Kryptic Mortal Yea but wasnt the mother pregnant at the time that the boy was killed
TitanGear Doesnt explain how the military wouldnt figure it out.
Mario Badia perhaps the collapse if society in less than 2 months meant the military was not fast enough to discover or implement it.
+Jj O,leary
its a fucking predator solely hunting on sound...aka it has very fine hearing. i doubt the military would need more than 5 minutes after that insight to figure out that sound also might be a good weapon against this things.
That weak point and it going unnoticed are both incredibly stupid though, so it changes very little.
Meik Vincenco
Aside from that, how is it stupid for the things to have a vunerable organ protected by armour that is exposed under certain circumstances stupid? Might have evolved that way.
Wow I completely forgot about farts in this movie. I would seriously die so quick, I need my loud farts
24 Frames Of Nick there is an actual method to not farting loud, but it’s completely irrelevant for this movie honestly. We don’t need to be hyper realistic, otherwise films like blade runner wouldn’t be well received because of nitpicks
I've gone 30 days without farting and I feel healthier and more confident than ever. #NoFarts
I know you don't wanna think about coughs, sneezes, and farts during a horror movie but I was thinking about the whole time too lol
You just gotta spread em my dude, completely silent
They said they would just use pillows to quite down stuff like sneezes and such. The director anwsered this question
