Tiger fishing in Zimbabwe: Catch and release helps preserve fish stocks

- A new approach to competition has been used at the annual Kariba fishing tournament in Zimbabwe.
Organisers say the catch and release system has helped reduce the number of fish killed this year by 80 percent, as drought and poaching have reduced stock in Africa’s largest man-made lake.

I once read (don't remember source) that most fish released after being hooked die anyway. Anyone know if this is true?
No clue
If they fish is played for too long, or handled badly, or for too long when out of the water they die.
but if the fish is relied in in for minimal time and handled with care the will survive when released
