  • In this tutorial I go over how to make a simple house, introducing the offset and follow me tools. I also explain inferencing a little better and show you how to skew and rotate textures.

      +Aaron Bishop Hello, super enjoy your videos. I am using the most current SketchUp version and when I try to create the eaves by creating an offset under the house and pushing that offset to the roof line it isn't working. Instead it's creating a hollow space between the outside walls of the house and the inside of the offset area I created under the house. Any suggestions on what's going on?

      Is it possible to get shapes as accurate as 1/16" ? Also, is this channel done cause you haven't posted since your "I'm not dead" comment.

    • @AaronBishopDesign

      Yes it is possible. I must apologize again for not posting in quite a while; I've had to keep much of my focus on other projects. Hopefully 2017 will give me some more time to get back into filming some more videos. Cheers!

    Something is wrong with your measurements. You typed in 20',10' and then 35',15' but shortened it by 5' so then it would be 30',15'. The problem is that on the X axis, there is 20' on the first rectangle and there is 30' on the second rectangle but the second rectangle looks more than 10' longer than the first rectangle on the X axis. If the first is 20' on X axis and the second is 30' on X axis, then it should only be 10' longer but it looks more like 20' feet longer. What is wrong?

    • @bubbabit9147
      @bubbabit9147 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Is the second rectangle 40',15'?

    • @ryancox4498
      @ryancox4498 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'm trying to figure out the same thing. I put in the same numbers as him, and my dimensions are clearly way off. As far as I can tell, the second rectangle on his is actually more like 40'x20'. But I can't figure out how that happened because he clearly types in 35'x15' before shortening it.

    • @ShenHairybottom
      @ShenHairybottom 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I THINK I FINALLY FIGURED IT OUT!! After like maybe an hour of endlessly fucking around with the settings I figured out what the problem is. It's nothing we did wrong. for the first rectangle, he types in 25',10' All good and dandy there. for the second rectangle however he makes the very mistake he warns us not to make lol : He types in " 35'15' " with no comma in the middle. That's why his thing is larger. I don't know why the program does this, and I personally don't understand the significance of the comma in the measurements because I suck at math, but if you don't type in the comma for the second measurement you should end up with the same thing he has.

    There's something wrong with the measurements of the first two rectangles. Following along with the exact measurements you give returns a different shape. The small rectangle is 20 ft long and the big one is 30 ft but it's more than twice the length...

      WAS LOOKING FOR THIS COMMENT, I FIGURED IT OUT, HE SAYS "MAKE SURE YOU YOU PUT A COMMA" ON THE FIRST RECTANGLE, THEN WHEN HE DRAWS THE NEXT RECTANGLE, HE FORGETS TO PUT HIS OWN COMMA AND DOES (35' 15') IF YOU WATCH CLOSELY IN THE MEASUREMENT BOX DOWN TO THE LOWER LEFT..... WHICH GAVE A RECTANGLE AT 50' INSTEAD OF 35'................, THEN HE SUBTRACTS 5' SO THE FINAL RECTANGLE WAS 45'....TOOK ME A MINUTE BECAUSE I WAS FOLLOWING ALONG AS WELL THEN I KEPT COMING UP WITH THE WRONG RECTANGLE SIZE IM USUALLY REALLY GOOD AT THINGS LIKE FOLLOWING ALONG ON TECHNICAL STUFF. THAT WAS IRCKING ME LOL

    Aaron.. I understand the procedure for "reversing faces" but do not understand why it was necessary here (you did it immediately after creating the two rectangles and deleting the shared edge in this video). Why was this necessary? Why did the two rectangles not "automatically" (i.e. by default) open with the correct ("outside") face(s) showing after you created the first/simple rectangles?

    • @AaronBishopDesign
      @AaronBishopDesign  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Bob Mailer It isn't strictly necessary, perhaps I'm just a little OCD and like all of my model's faces to be the same colour.
