- Walking around in beautiful Orvelte. It's a kind of Monument/Museum Village but people do live in the village. The historic Saxon style hatch roof farms and cobblestone and brick streets give the village a unique atmosphere. There is a saw mill, a blacksmith and a wooden shoe maker, all open to the public. A number of events are held throughout the year featuring traditional Dutch activities.

Ha Thomas, ik mijn jeugd oa hier doorgebracht met schoolkampen en fiets- en brommertochten incl. Dwingeloose meer wat toen nog Paradijselijk licht blauw was.
Ik kan me nog goed herrinneren dat ik bijna stikte in 2 menthos tegelijk voor het beeld van “Bartje” (die ik kreeg van een klasgenoot)
Ik weet niet beter dan dat de Wereld er zo moet uitzien en met deze vogelgeluiden!

I believe so. Drenthe (Drenthe in general) is a sparsely populated province. This particular area even more so :)

That's why they made a WW2 concentration camp there named after the village next to Orvelte, Westerbork. The camp is slightly to the north where there is a forest. 😅
After all the cliches of the Netherlands of Amsterdam, tulips and windmills, you show the huge variety of regions and cultures within the country.
I love this video! It’s a lovely little village. It has a close community feel to it too. In the summer it looks extra special but even in the winter I’m sure it’s got magic to it. Great work!

Weer prachtig, Thomas, dank je wel! Ik heb alleen één verzoek: jij, en ook je collega-filmers, lopen als het ware met oogkleppen op - je kijkt alleen recht vooruit. Dat snap ik, maar is tegelijk heel onnatuurlijk. "Oh kijk, wat een prachtige rhododendron" - maar daar krijgt het publiek slechts een glimpje van mee... kijk aub af en toe ‘ns even om je heen 🙏🏼
Hallo, ik begrijp Uw redenering maar moest Thomas dit gaan doen, dan moet ik helaas afhaken. Want van boven naar onder en van
links naar rechts daar word ik heel draaierig van(evenwichtstoornissen) Dus liever maar op deze manier.
Telkens wanneer Thomas op een brug staat zwenkt de camera om het water te bekijken. Dat is voor mij al genoeg. Groeten Jan.
Bedankt Magreet! Het is een inderdaad een wat robotachtige manier van lopen/filmen maar het is op deze manier wat relaxter en dromeriger om naar te kijken. Ik zal kijken of ik wat meer rustig om me heen kan filmen.

I often wonder if the average Dutch person has an inkling of the beautiful country they live in.

@@wanderingthomas Last year I visited the little Speeltoren museum in the beautiful town of Monnickendam. The elderly couple that was taking admission asked where I was from. Then she asked me why would I want to come to the Netherlands? I was surprised. I volunteered that it was to see historic places such as this speeltoren and its magnificent old carillion.
