- Today, I'm sharing my thoughts on the new $55 Rouge Allure L'Extrait refillable lipsticks from Chanel. There are 20 shades available, they are highly pigmented and shiny with a satin finish. Happy Saturday Babes! I hope you're all having a safe and wonderful weekend. As you know, I'm a huge Chanel Beauty fan so it pains me to say these lipsticks are disappointing but I will always be 100% honest and transparent with you. The new $55 price tag is not justified by the refillable component. I just double checked my Tom Ford lipsticks which are $58 and they contain .1 oz of lipstick. You're better off purchasing a Rouge Coco Bloom or Le Rouge Duo Ultra Tenue lipstick in my opinion. What do you think? xx

Agreed, so glad you brought this up! Couldn’t believe it when I saw the price of these is £46 😱 I assumed they’d be in the usual £32-35 range. There’s just no way I’d pay that much for one lipstick, and that is spoken as a lipstick fanatic! Mediocre, red-centric colour range as well 🙄
The color range was a bit disappointing, I agree. I actually just ordered two directly from Chanel yesterday, but I just got an email from them saying they canceled my order (?) but I’m actually okay with it, because on second thought, I already have enough lipsticks like these and in these colors and don’t really want/need them!

I loved this video. It wasn’t negative at all, it was honest. It actually made me laugh at times because I genuinely sensed your anger 😁 This launch is bad. Chanel is my favourite beauty brand but I will not purchase these. They’re constantly raising the pricing of their bags, and their makeup will follow the same trend. People will continue to buy it though. Unless people stop buying, they will continue to do it! I loved that pinky nude shade though!

What an honest review. You are so right Chanel are losing the run of themselves. I can see the brand losing its appeal. Now it is a trend worldwide. Getting less product and spending more...... Chanel is a brand that in my opinion is raising the bar to high that it might backfire in the future.
I’m a high end-luxury makeup lover but AGREED, they better be Great for $55. A little added detail somewhere like how they put those different designs on the ends of their Rouge Allure Velvet Comète releases earlier this year would’ve been appreciated. I think I’ll pass on these for now.

Now, I’m curious about the different Chanel lipstick formulas since I am keeping a list for every review I watch to prepare myself for my very first Chanel lipstick. Their Le blanc highlighter is $80. $10 more than their regular highlighter, but the product is lot more and it comes with a mini kabuki brush (full size is $50) so it’s not at all bad pricing.
I don’t know why Chanel did what it did with this lipstick. This is not even eco friendly. What, we save on one plastic top? This is a flub.

Chanel took a page out of Hermes pricing book . I was shocked at how small the lipstick bullet was for their new sheer lip balm lipstick and those are $72 USD. Pricing for luxury items have increased tremendously this past year.

Wanted to write about Hermes too) they are so expensive and such a small amount they offer for that price(( unbelievable :-/
Did you notice that because Chanel made this refillable lipstick slimmer, actually that $72 Hermes lipstick is now a better deal than Chanel?
Chanel full set is $55 for 0.07 oz (= $786 per oz) and Hermes full set is $72 for 0.12 oz (= $600 per oz). For the refills, Chanel refill is $40 for 0.07 oz (= $571 per oz) and Hermes refill is $43 for 0.12 oz (= $358 per oz).
So as a refillable lipstick, Hermes costs less per oz than Chanel!! PLUS Hermes gives all those neat packaging, eg. cute orange sustainable box, Hermes ribbon, protective pouch just like their handbags, magnetic cap and a special gold logo on top. Also Hermes refills are retractable on their own so you can just use the refills.
Yes, the Hermes I bought was disappointing with the amount you get for the exorbitant price. The colour is beautiful and I like the packaging but not worth it and will not be buying more.

Thanks Erin for just being honest about your thoughts on this particular product. I have been a faithful Chanel woman for as long as I can remember. The products have never disappointed me and as I have gotten older, the more I have appreciated the classic elegance and subtle coloring the brand is known for. I will be passing on this lipstick. I have paid $55 from time to time for a Cle de Peau lipstick which also requires buying the separate holder. Those have been special treats only. There are so many excellent options for a great lipstick, it will not be hard for me to miss this one.
I caved and bought one and I am in love (of course the most expensive lipstick). It’s totally smudge proof!!!

Great review! It’s crazy how much more expensive a refillable one could be. Doesn’t seem like they used anymore metal/material than usual. Chanel is getting too greedy! Youre my favourite youtuber erin, so today I was at myer (australia) which is similar to your nordstrom, and I thought I would swatch some chanel foundations to find my shade and I was most comfortable in B10, I also remembered you love the cc cream and the lovely girl gave me a sample of cc cream, les beiges healthy glow foundation and ultra le tient to try at home, so now if I want to shop through a link I'll know my shade. as a side note I also have the dior airflash and its amazing, I took it on vacation and if I take something on vacation it means I really like it.

Hi Erin thank you for your review. Here in Australia I have noticed a recent price hike from luxury brands Chanel, Dior and Lancome to name a few. Chanel lipsticks here retail for around $62 now. It seems to me that some new launches from brands are coming with extra dollars especially for foundations. On a side note I watched your recent review on Chanel Allure Sensuelle and went out and tried it here. I loved it and purchased an EDP bottle. It's not one that gets reviewed much but it's gorgeous.
They probably made this lipstick less product than other lipsticks because they want you to use it up faster so you buy the refill

I think we are being manipulated by so many designer brands mainly Chanel and Hermes and my thoughts on this is... until us the consumer stand up and do something about it, they will continue to do it! The color is incredible beautiful and I wanted to buy it and was shocked when I saw the price too.. The 'normal prices are already expensive, but I love the quality of the Chanel lipsticks.. So I am always willing to do the splurge.. But I haven't checked the content before... I thought it's going to be the same... The increased price plus the reduction in content is a no go for me...! I have always been a Chanel lover. However the price of their handbags have gone up tremendously and the quality has gone down. Now the price of the lipstick has gone up and we get less product. At this point I could be wearing a drugstore lipstick and it’s better quality and no one would be wiser. Very very disappointed in Chanel lately. I feel as if they’re gouging the consumer.

I have this lipstick, actually two. One is red- absolute brilliant red and I love everything about this lipstick and didn't mind to pay more for it. I also have another more deeper shade( deep red Bordeaux wine-ish shade) and that one looks even more fabulous. I consider this lipsticks a great investment.
I felt the same way about Charlotte tilbury hylaronic kiss. I liked the formula so much. I applied it a lot, and it was gone in a couple of weeks! I couldn’t believe I used it all!
I have to pass for now.. I waste more money on luxury products but at the moment I am really looking at what is going on in the world and I think…really? 55 usd for a lipstick I want but don’t need… have to pump the brakes for a minute and think it through…..truthful review and thank you as always Erin.💕
I shopped for hours tried on everything and then I tried 858. It could be teeny tiny and I would still buy it. The color is perfection for my skin tone. I hope they make it forever!! ❤

Hi Erin and Jazzy! You look pretty in all the new lip colors. I purchased 812, 848, and 854 before watching your review. There are no names on the Chanel website. I like names. It helps me see the color in my brain! When I checked out I said to my husband, “Chanel be expensive!” You are right! Darn “Shrinkflation”! I do like that it’s better for the environment with less plastic so maybe that’s why. I don’t think they will change all the sizes probably just the green/clean lines. Thank you for making us aware of that issue! I personally do not like the refillable-theme at all. a) Like you, I rarely go through a bullet. I like options and thus have quite a few lip products. b) The companies don't guaranty that the shade line (or lipstick line in general) will be available for at least 10 yrs. My granny was able to buy her favourite luxury make-up for approx. 20 yrs! The only lipstick I did finish was not available anymore after what, two years? (looking at you Urban Decay). c) The price for refills should be at least 15 EUR/USD etc. cheaper. Stupid, greenwashing marketing bs.
In Aussie dollars that’s almost $75😱I totally agree about the price Erin. Like you, I love Chanel and I look forward to every launch. And I usually purchase one item from the collection. But $75 for a slim lipstick? On a nurses budget? I just can’t justify it. As usual though I did love your vid🥰

I bought the refill on top of buying the lipstick also when I bought the original packaging. The color I bought was Rose supreme it's so beautiful. I'm also saving up to get the lip liner in a rose color as well.

I have always loved my Chanel lipsticks. There are only two of the many I have that I have bought that I have used to the last drop. At $55 and probably more in Canada where I live, I’ll be trying other brands.
When I saw the smaller tubes the first thing I checked on the Chanel website was if there was a quantity difference. You are not alone in feeling robbed. I’ve decided to skip on this product. I completely agree with your concerns on this new lipstick. My disillusionment with the brand began when they relaunched the blush line and it was clearly an inferior formula.

I've never used an entire Chanel lipstick, but I have, in fact, over used the pop-up mechanism. It was my very first one, and I was so mesmerized by the clicky opener that I would pull it out of my purse and play with it. Now, it won't pop up, I have to shake it to get the lipstick to fly out. So I hope a refillable case they expect you to use long enough to need refills is made better than their standard one, because they don't last forever.
Completely agree!! Thing is we are to blame because their quality keeps going down prices keep going up AND we continue to buy them !! We are letting this happen, it is getting to me lol!

Do you think this is worth keeping I’ve got daring red an this 585. Do i need these two reds ? Or does one trump the other. One was more comfortable than one an the duo was like insanely beautiful but I’ve got very dry lips but u it wasn’t messy at al don’t have to line it. I’m new to red. I also wanted to pick up the nude but since i got Adrianne i didn’t pick it up. Any thoughts ??? Also goin on vaca an needed a new base. I’ve got bad texture an really sensitive reactive skin of late. An little scaring. Tried the water tint felt amazing but didn’t cover anything. At all
