Greetings from Derbyshire, England Fr Brendan. Absolutely spot on. It drove me nuts to keep hearing the 'Cultural monument' comment!! Love your gentle sense of humour! 'Will the 60s ever die? God-willing yes! Please keep sharing your thoughts Father Brendan.
I agree with you about the vestments .The Altar was very strange.Dont worry they can be changed when sanity returns .Wishing you a very happy Christmas .
The roof of the old Church is burnt and collapsed but the foundation and the beauty of her rose windows remain unbroken. In 50 years, she'll be as glorious as ever she was in ages past. Thanks for your words, Fr Kilcoyne.
God bless you Father as always. Simple story to share. I got Mass on Monday evening in Old Dominican Church now run by new order. Church is as beautiful as of old and vestments fitting. It was moving. God bless these men who strive to keep civilisation alive. Where nothing is sacred nothing is safe.
Father, I love the way you said what you needed to say without saying it in respect of the vestment colours... Jesus and his blessed mother Mary will have the last word 😊🙏
I’m just grateful they decided to rebuild, even if the motive was national pride, rather that love for the church. Now theres hope. Thank you Fr Kilcoyne.
I spent last week in Paris with the intention of visiting Notre Dame. Failed to gain access. For two days the lines were intimidatingly long. Then on the third day the queue disappeared completely because the Diocese decided to introduce an online application process. There is practically zero possibility of gaining access this side of Easter. Yes the vestments were horrible.
It's important to speak out about anything that takes away from the beauty of the Holy Mass or anything that insults Jesus Christ. Thank you Fr. for being a good shepherd and guiding us silly littlr sheep.
Thanks a million for your observations and reflections Fr Brendan. I agree. Those vestments looked ridiculous. A friend quipped: "Was this a Catholic ceremony, or a scene from 'Buck Rogers in the 23rd Century' " Lol. However, perhaps France is still slowly turning a corner and the burning and restoration of Notre Dame itself may be symbolic of this renewal of the Church in France. Future historians may well write about such a theme. That green shoots, some of which are evident already and many more that are not yet here but are to come. That all are in the pipeline. When we are weak, God is strong. And in spite of us, He is the greatest chess player. Best wishes to Fr Brendan and all on this thread from the Costa del Cork. 😀
Father....Down in Seville last week, arrived 8th December...Couldn't believe my eyes..such reverence the " solemnity to the immaculate Conception, over 100thousand people young & old love their faith & culture. When you think what Spain went through from the " Red menace "..Ireland needs a Franco to sort the out the destruction of Ireland.
Thank you, father for your comments. I haven't seen the ceremony in too much detail, but I was very pleased that president elect Trump attended. Contamination of the Church by secular ideology and terrible modernist architecture is unfortunately an omnipresent feature of our times. But considering that It was France it could have ended much worse. We have the Olympic disgrace still. freshly on our minds. I remember the "ideas for reconstruction" that were discussed in newspapers after the fire. Like building a glass roof and use it as a greenhouse to grow "sustainable vegetables" Or cover the roof with solar panels to express the "Spirit of new multicultural France". Considering the current state of affairs in France, the opening was a great success.
The getup reminded me of the 80s electronic game Simon. The church really needs to take a step back when going public, whether in addressing and issue or wearing something and think if we wear these will we look like an absolute bunch of wallies to the world.
I agree with you, Fr. Brendan; the truth is the truth. What happened to the high altar and the communion rails? Instead we get a lump of rock or concrete that is supposed to represent an altar.
I always pray that I become a successful Catholic Social Media Influencer to spread the teachings and Revelations of the Catholic Church and the entire Christendom. I hope and pray the Devotion to the Eucharist and the Holy Souls in Purgatory helps me. In your charity, lets all pray 7 Hail Mary for the propagation of all Catholic Teachings and for the success of all Catholic Social Media Influencer that all may be guided by the Holy Trinity, Holy Family, all Great Saints, and Angels Our Lady, Queen of France, Undoer of Knots, Help of Christians, pray for us St. Joseph, Patriarch of All Saints, pray for us
Agree with your thoughtful analysis Fr. Brendan. The vestments were a disaster. A church dedicated to Our Mother: so much could have been better. I envisaged, white and blue, even with some representation of Mary on the front and back. As for new Churches: the last four or five churches built in Cork and Ross ( last 1992), remind me of Quaker meeting halls or perhaps Presbyterian churches, but not in the Catholic tradition.
Saddening to see vestments causing such a distraction. They were not appropriate and a distraction from the liturgy . Thanks, Fr .God bless your work .
My Friend told me that they have taken the Huge Crucifix from the Front of the Cathedral, the TABERNACLE is the smallest I have ever seen, Disgraceful, to the Altar awful no candles on the actual altar, where is Our Lord Jesus Christ ♥️ on the Crucifix? What an awful mess Rita England 🙏 JESUS ♥️ is PRESENT PRESENT PRESENT!!!Vestments APPALLING what is going on?Rita England 🙏🌍🙏🕊️☘️🌹
The "uncultural monument".... sorry, me bad, ...... Church I attend on Sundays was commissioned by a prelate in the early 1970's, with more PhD's, DD's and STD's (theological......we hope....) than anyone in the Parish or the diocese or even Ireland.......but still allowed an ugly gym/band hall/storage depot etc, to be built......and this Prince of the Church was formed, I'd guess in the 40's(or 50's) DON'T BLAME THE 60'S ( my vintage and GREAT music).......the corruption (modernism) was in the Church, in Ireland, a long time before.........Fr Joseph Ratzinger (God's Rottweiler and brave guard dog of Jesus' Church.....) saw it clearly in 50's Germany.
The show in Noyte dame with its Multi Colour outfits 😍 was an embarrassment what a bunch of very strange individuals in their glitzy gear what a performance CHEEP ,TACKY. EMBARRASSING, AFTER LESS THAN A MINUTE OF BEING EMBARRASSED I TURNED THE SPECTACLE OFF 😢
“Teacher,” said John, “we saw someone driving out demons in your name and we told him to stop, because he was not one of us.” 39 “Do not stop him,” Jesus said. “For no one who does a miracle in my name can in the next moment say anything bad about me, 40 for whoever is not against us is for us. 41 Truly I tell you, anyone who gives you a cup of water in my name because you belong to the Messiah will certainly not lose their reward. /\ This is how I feel about the restoration of Our Lady of Paris. There are many Priests and religious who do not wear vestments today. No? I think it's not great to gufaw at anybody who tried? Sorry Fr. but for once I am not embarrassed or incredulous - I'm thankful quite simply for Notre-Dam. She is beautiful!

Very good podcast Fr. Brendan. Spot on.
Thank you for your practical observations and for your blessing on our US president elect.
Absolutely loved this Friday. Brendan, wise words as usual, would love to meet you🙏🙏🙏
The modernist liturgy, vestments, and altar eill be replaced when the Church in France recovers her sanity, sense of transcendent beauty and sanctity.
Spot on Fr. Kilcoyne, as always

Yea, I agree with you, Father!

Much-appreciated, Father; you remain in my prayers!

Just a random question. Why has the basilica at knock got no kneelers ?!
Make Vestments Great Again
Exactly what I was thinking before you said it.
To say the least the colours were loud.
It was great to see Donald Trump and others there.
Saddening to see vestments causing such a distraction. They were not appropriate and a distraction from the liturgy .
Thanks, Fr .God bless your work .
Royalty have more care than those Apostles of the King of Kings
Respectfully, Father, they (Archbishop & Priests) look like a multi two-legged walking rainbow jigsaw 🌈 . 😮😅
Not to mention the horrible cacophony from the organ. Abuse of a beautiful instrument.
Put a nice tablecloth on the altar and think "mass rock". It could be so much worse.

New order, new clothes 😕🤔

Sadly it was more about culture and not our Catholic faith.
they looked like bad christmass tree decorations.
