I made cinnamon dough ornaments with the primary aged students for 40 years. 32 years with first graders! In the beginning I used the applesauce/cinnamon mixture. They broke easily and the kids were sad when they did. Eventually I used white school glue and cinnamon. That’s all! Room parents would help my students with these. I let each child make four, every year. So I bought cinnamon (about 5-6 of the big containers of cinnamon at Costco) and a gallon of white school glue. But we needed that much for the 100+ we made each year. For home use it would obviously take much less. To make the dough simply mix glue and cinnamon together to make dough that can be easily rolled out, between two pieces of waxed or parchment paper. The kids would make their “cookies” with 4 different cookie cutter shapes. Be sure to use a straw to poke a hole in the top for hanging. When I finally quit using applesauce and only used glue and cinnamon the ornaments didn’t break after that! EVER! The. Kids would decorate use puff paints, fabric paint and glitter glue. These decorated our classroom tree every year, along with other adorable ornaments they made, or I made for them. Former young students, who now have families of their own, tell me that these cinnamon ornaments are still hung on their trees even now. Because I taught in a small town, I taught many of the children from my former students. They were always so excited to know their children would be making the same cinnamon ornaments they made. Fond memories and a tradition that has carried on. One of my first grade students now teaches in my last classroom and continues with making these ornaments. Our classroom smelled wonderful all month long to help get us in the spirit of Christmas. 🎄
Oh man I’d be the mom helper who came in to help! I’d love making them! I used to come in and do crafts with my kids’ class because certain teachers knew I was crafty and I was free labor. 😂 (I also helped with vacation Bible school doing crafts and helped my son’s kindergarten teacher when kids had been out sick and needed to make up work. We had a little spot in the back of the room with a kid sized cubicle with plexiglass “windows”. ) For every holiday I started off making molded candy lollipops for teachers, office staff, librarians, nurse, lunch ladies. The kids had at least 4-5 teachers. Kids got goody bags. Stickers, erasers, pencils, Hershey kisses. I made a Christmas tree to hold the lollipops for the office, librarians and lunch ladies. It was a lot of work. The lollipops got to be a pain. So I went to making just candy from molds. Then it was getting expensive so I went to sugar cookies for teachers. I got plain and the one with the design made into it. I added M&Ms to match the holiday. I put them on the plain cookies. I made them BIG. We also made cards for all the teachers every holiday. We bought the foam shape kits at AC Moore and put them on cardstock and added all kinds of stickers. My son graduated 5th grade in 2005. My daughter started 1st grade in 2006. So I was back in business. 😂 I added one of his teachers to my list while my daughter was there because she was so good to him. She “got” him. He had ADHD and she knew he needed hugs along with encouragement. That genuine affection made a big difference in his grades. She never got mad at him. She was super special. (Her mom was also. She subbed for my daughter’s 1st grade teacher when she left because she had cancer. She was also very special. I see where her daughter got it!!)
That’s sweet of you to say❣️ I did love my job. ❤️ I probably don’t need to say this but if you do make mini ornaments to hang or use as tags, don’t forget to poke a tiny hole for whatever string you use. Happy crafting!
Sugar cookies with icing are my Christmas favs. Or a melting snowman on a sugar cookie. Yum! Honey's ornament is priceless. Now my dog Micah wants to make one too!
I love that you involve Honey they are so much a part of the family. She is so adorable. I love cookies but I would choose a sugar cookie. Love the dry clay ideas. It was the first I heard of this as I'm new at crafting. Have a blessed week. 🍪🍪
I would choose sugar cookies!😊 Honey is adorable!❤ I love all of your clay diys, but favorite is your recipe, and the bonus is that they smell good! As always, thank you for sharing all of your hard work, creativity, talent, and inspiration! Stay safe, healthy, and positive! GOD bless you and your family!🙏❤️🇺🇲😊🎄
Wow. Just made air dry mitten ornaments let week for all the grandkids 😊 Love the star garland with lights and the cinnamon too! Cookies? I'm not picky. 😂 Yearly tradition cookie making started with my granddaughter at 8 yrs old. She's now 22 and still coming for our holiday tradition.
What great ideas! The ginger projects look so real and so "delicious!" Ginger is inspiring because it's so good for you. Ginger bread and ginger cookies are so good...my favorite! I love all of these projects today Shannon! 🎄⛄
I absolutely love the last ornament that you did. I will have to replicate that this year for my families so that they can use them as ornaments for next year. My absolute favorite Christmas cookie is sugar! Thanks for all the great inspiration and looking forward to your next video!
Fun! The stars are so nice! Entwining some of the chiffon ribbon would look so pretty I bet! Sugar cookies! But they have to be just right - I really like the recipe from a well known brand of flour’s cookbook. Years ago I made some into candy cane shapes having added a bit of red food coloring to some of the dough before baking them. I had also added real peppermint extract but that wasn’t as nice as I had hoped - thinking that adding some crushed candy canes on the icing might be better. PS: Honey is an adorable crafting assistant! 🥰
U and your pup r so cute together! I like both kind of cookies but I'll say gingerbread I guess. I just bought some air dry clay to c if I can make a couple things. Thank u Shannon. Love all your ideas!
Sugar cookies, especially making them with my mom who passed from Covid -19 on December 23rd, 2020. I also have very fond memories of making a LOT of gingerbread cookies one Christmas season with a dear friend who passed away last year. Great remembrances of both. ❤
I’m definitely making the last ornaments this year. I have all the stuff so there no excuse not to. Thank you for sharing and have a blessed evening. 😘❤️🤗🙏🏻✝️🍪☃️🎅🏼🎄Lisa
It's a tie for me, I make awesome sugar cookies & gingerbread ones too. Both are sooo good. Also how funny this video comes out today, I've been decorating my fake sugar cookie ornaments I made out of clay the last couple days for my gingerbread/baking themed tree. Perfect timing!!
Gingerbread! I make them every year in all the traditional shapes and give them to friends. Of course, I make some for my family too. I love decorating them with my daughters. This year, we're going to make your cinnamon dough ornaments. Pretty sure my kids have made them but I haven't!
Oh my goodness 😍😍😍😍😍 Absolutely stunning and as a I have always said, they look like they are from the Hallmark store!!! Everything turned out beautiful!!!
Rolled sugar cookies. But I'll eat gingerbread to. I really liked the gold buffed stars and lights. I bet your house smelled amazing with those old school dough ornaments. In all my years I've never made any 🤔 Thanks for the inspo Shannon.🎄
I'm a cookie snob. I'll eat any kind of cookies. I've been watching you 5+ years and I've said this a few times, but your creativity always blows my mind.
Sugar cookies are the best! (I'm not fond of gingerbread cookies.) I love dogs and Honey is beautiful! Her mitten ornament turned out great. The clay ornaments are cute and easy to make for my tree.
5:13 😋 love ‘em both! 😋 Okay, truth be known, I L❤VE Cookies!! If I could pick just one of your 2 choices, I ‘d pick a gingerbread because I’m thinking about Eating them 😋 … not as decorations 👀 But when I bake them I use cinnamon😀 and clove😀 instead of ginger 😐
Since I'm diabetic any cookie mlade with sugar and regular flour are out. If a sugar cookie is a choice, I'll take 1. I do have a a7ggestion on rolling your doughs. Use skewers on each side of the clay then use the rolling pin on those skewers. It gives an even layer of dough. It works on really coolies too!
cheistmas tree, i stayed to the end and i luvd the last diu..im gonna make some of tht for my grand kids, whts not to luv about apple sauce and cinnamon 😊
I prefer sugar cookies, but my most favorite are Chocolate chip. These are all great. I have never use DAS clay. I have used Sculpey clay, and I do not like it. I think it is too hard to work it, especially if you have issues with your hands. I do like the Crayola model magic. I definitely want to try the cinnamon clay. It probably gives the house a nice smell. Have an awesome week.
GINGERBREAD! However, a close second is the sugar cookies, because I do have fond memories of making DOZENS and DOZENS of sugar cookies with my mom and her home made frosting is STILL my favorite. (Last year my mom added up how many cookies she had made one Christmas long ago, it was over 900 cookies) 😁

Did you still have to bake the cookies when using the glue?
Sugar cookies with icing are my Christmas favs. Or a melting snowman on a sugar cookie. Yum!
