The best band of all time. This still has that jangle guitar but signature MBV sound. The songwriting was really cool on this record and the vocals are amazing.

I actually bought "Ectasy and Wine" in a record store in Oslo in 89 after listening to "Isn't Anything". At first I was surprised and a bit desappointed. But I ended up loving it.
I can't get over how much I love this compilation. Nothing compares to the feelings this thing gives. So many memories attached to just half an hour of music.
I have always thought these were criminally overlooked/underrated. Even if they had never made another record after this one, this one really scratches the particular itch when I have it... but oh, how I'm glad that they did make more records! Thanks for posting!
I'm back again. Dear god, this whole album is a masterpiece. Idc if it was a pitstop on the way to Isn't Anything and Loveless. I want to move into that pitstop and live and die there.
@@ok2760 he just doesn't like at all how they worked out their songs pre-1988, because they were recording jangly tunes in the studio, but in live performances they already were known for the extreme loudness and noisy sound and Kevin wanted to capture the live sound in a studio recording as he liked it more than the jangly songs.
Same. The college radio in SF was all over this music. I even won tickets to see them on the loveless tour. I was dating one of the DJs so that probably helped =] 🌊🏄♂️🪷
Excellent stuff, shows them in transition. Besides the obvious J&MC (and Spacemen 3) influence, a lot of similarities with indie pop bands of the era like the Primitives and the Darling Buds
For me, this album is to My Bloody Valentine what "Revoler" was to The Beatles. This is the moment they found their sound. While it is excellent, I read that Kevin Shields was of course unhappy with how it turned out, and I'd love to hear him fully develop these songs in a "Loveless" vein, production - wise, because to me, these are as good as any of their best songs.
what are you talking about? Seriously, site your reference. Did you hear somewhere that that’s what that was? Ive never heard that I always just assumed it was a wall of pink noise kevin created on guitar, thats how i’ve always replicated it. Im confused if your comment was genuine or if that’s just what you think the noise sounds like. Either way it’s an astute observation, just curious how literal your comment was?.
It just reminds me of people wearing black with long, unwashed hair and Doc Martin shoes (or boots). Such was the uniform of the ubiquitous 'fraggle' of yesteryear in Derry.
i listened to you've got nothing while travelling at night, and oh my god... i felt like i was walking through the streets of london in 1987 and things that never happened, unknown things, i cant explain correctly, this is awesome.
These songs are so pure and beautiful. I spent some time in the hospital just trying to get through the day, and listening to this helped immensely.
why is this not on spotify?!?! this sounds HEAVENLY

@@catlvr-kg9ol Good. Spotify SUCKS for musicians.
Kevin Shields said he doesn't like anything they did before 1988 anymore, and that this jangle pop era was always going to be temporary anyways

Words can not describe how fucking amazing this band is
I couldn't have put it better.
Too true man❤❤❤
Like the Cure covering the Byrds. Loveless will always be their best to me but this is amazing in a whole other way. So sweet and hazy
I mean, correct me if im wrong but Clair has a very similar chord progression to Eight Miles High by the Byrds :)
God don't start that man😃 it'll end up in court

Never Say Goodbye has always been one of my all-time favorite songs.
Good choice.
Amazing song
best pre loveless song

Jangle Pop MBV is too damn good.
I LOVE JANGLE 😍
I remember reading somewhere that they were initially very influenced by 1960’s pop-rock music and I have to say it really suits them.
The best band of all time. This still has that jangle guitar but signature MBV sound. The songwriting was really cool on this record and the vocals are amazing.

You can certainly hear how LUSH must’ve been a big fan of this mini-album.
