one cool thing about paul gilbert is that he is more humble than any of us for example, he like to talk to people (not like any other rockstar that avoid cameras) and he also like guitars like this, he could use razorback or esp or any guitar with 24 frets and a antichrist shape but he plays guitars without floating tremolo and with a classic shape
another 3 note per string pattern that is very melodic is found in his song "silence followed by a deafening roar". still on the b string, but start on the c# on the 14th fret. continue to the D# then the E. skip to the high E string then the F# G# B. fall back and play G# hammer E, pull off to the G#, pull off to B. then this part is tricky: back to the B string, play E D# C#, jump to the G string and play the b note right there at your 3rd finger. then repeat E D# C# on the b. :D
man i wonder if he practices these licks before hand cause he always looks and sounds as if he making the lick up on the spot, then BAM!! plays it like so fast.
@johnadorian IMO single coils sound better than humbuckers. It depends on the design though. Most single coils are generic and use Alnico 5 (or worse ceramic) magnet with a wind close to 6K giving an overly bright thin sound. You should try some of my single coils, theyre big and beefy but have great clarity and definition. Generic humbuckers sound grainy and buzzy with distortion which is why I prefer singles.
NOT SURE WHAT'S COOLER, THE RIFF OR THE T-SHIRT. Unfortunately I live in Australia where voting is compulsory (sort of like enforced freedom) but I have still managed to avoid it for 10 yrs, one of my proudest achievments.
@BullToTheShit Actually paul plays that way on purpose. He picks at an angle to articulate the strings with more punch. He states it in an a video lesson. He likes the sound of the picking noise or how he describes it as " the noise you get when you put a card in your tire spokes on a bike".
Not a great fan of this style of guitarplaying..but just like the guy, clearly a great guitarplayer..always prepared to share his knowledge..showing how he approaches things..counting his doths...17th position..haha..
i love his tone, its not what i'd use but its great, its clean but still distorted and you can hear EVERYTHING :D
don't worry about that, i'm a huge Gilbert fan and would never send him BS, thanks for the advice
It always awes me how clean his playing is
Paul is the best Guitar Teacher ever!!!
Man, you gotta love his tone!

@EthanAnderson1 its a fireman, it puts out the flames automatically the instant they ignite
That lick is used in "Unforgiven" on "What if..." by Mr. Big! Love that lick.
An absolute monster.

01:58, any faster and he could open a portal to another dimension!
the fact thath the gain is so low and he can still play that fast and that CLEAN is amazing
"I can't explain it, but I can play it!"
he played this lick live when he was playing Technical Difficulties, yeah!!!
his guitar looks sooooooooooo cool with his HIPPIE STRAPS! \../,
Awesome!
awesome

Thatz really interesting! It looks like the guitar will catch fire with that speed
I LOVE THAT SHIRT!!!! LMAO!!!!!!!!!!

He's freaking fast! :D
That darn monstrous righthand..lol!
VIRGIN MEDIA, I WILL FUCKING SUE YOU FOR MAKING PAUL GILBERT BUFFER!!!!
man i wonder if he practices these licks before hand cause he always looks and sounds as if he making the lick up on the spot, then BAM!! plays it like so fast.
this sounds like the solo to the Mr. Big song "Daddy, Brother, Lover, Little Boy. (The Drilling Song"
twelve... fifteen...seventeen fret!!!
One proof more of says us "Paul Gilbert isnt a Robot"

Paul is too good :(

how did you get his email address?
i find it odd however that paul was unable to immediatly tell where the 17th fret was...

lol well this is easy compared to the other lesson im gonna upload
Make sure that last fucking note is an UP stroke
@gibderfenson wrong :D Ibanez Fireman
Paul Gilbert can play faster than neutrinos
I just pissed my pants.
1:55 im seeing afterimages of his pinky finger :)
dane cook plays guitar? XD
@bitchslapper12 agreed !
@mikelimited ibanez iceman
his treble comes from his picking btw haha
funny how you can hear the pick noise -- sounds like a baseball card stuck in the spokes of a bicycle rim ... remember those days? :)
@iholowxzx I too.
lets see hummm twelve, 17!!! haha
from 1:50 to 2:08 just put me in a coma
0:21 WTF ? Are you kidding me ? Come on Paul dont take us as dumbers
I used to be able to play this, but then I took an arrow to the knee.
not really, some of the overtones are from picking but most are from the wood of the guitar.
Not a great fan of this style of guitarplaying..but just like the guy, clearly a great guitarplayer..always prepared to share his knowledge..showing how he approaches things..counting his doths...17th position..haha..
tell a japanese robot to do that
Gilbert sei un Grande! se ero femmina te la davo
check his website but dont ruin it for everyone else by sending BS emails all the time and killing his patience
when ye get that good ye probably dont think in frets, or notes, u think in music XD
i think its too empty
i think that its an ok tone but not for this kind of playing. needs a bit more gain
So umm Paul ,did you vote for Obama?? i reckon you voted for that bassist republican Huckabee lol
i dont like the tone on this guitar :/
