I dunno. Gilbert is a total legend (3:08 - OMFG) but his recorded lead tone has often been poor (IMHO). This is one of the times I've heard him have a bit of meat to his tone and it's just SO much better. His personality always comes through in his playing too.

Yes! I musta watched this solo 50 times, just for the sheer joy of it🐬 In the first section he is pinching and semi pinching so many notes along the way -- just another example of how much understanding he has of tone and dynamics; how much awareness and control he has! And he is sending all that exuberance and joy out to a fully engaged and appreciative audience. What a stellar guitarist-performer!

I will definitely have a go at these licks (at least some of them). While he's technically brilliant, Paul's stuff is easy to follow because he has such a clear rhythm even when unaccompanied.

Paul's solos are great practice etudes because they're easy to memorize, in my head, and so musical on top of being technically educational. I'm always surprised at how hard he picks. I can't get that kind of speed without picking much more lightly.

I'm older myself and I can't Believe how many people have returned to music (all of my former band mates except one). What's grabbed my attention is all the little signs that a return to traditional music where bands play their own instruments and have a singer. Singing will never die.Rap has carved itself a permanent place in the music scene but its kind of where rock was in the 2000s basically they ran out of ideas a while back and there run through the entire evolution of the genre front to back , back to front, and sideways and there isn't anywhere else for them to go. I guess we will find out .

One of my favorite and one of the very best 80's shredder and rock guitarist. Paul has everything: speed, melodic control, fun, passion. He's a very clear and very "musical law abiding" player, everything is spot on and doesn't deviate from the rules, when it's Pentatonics, everything is perfect pentatonics, unlike Mr.Govan who is a notorious "law breaker" always trying to play "wrong notes" outside the box.😅 Hahaha (pun intended)😉

Love Paul Gilbert! The world would be a better place if there were more people like him.

The great PG, still one of the most soulful, musical, and hilarious electric guitar artists of all time. His playing always makes me feel good and gives me something useful...

I'm so old I remember when Paul Gilbert was teaching class and started racer x. I still have the vinyl album

Wow, I love PG and all, but this seems to be just a collection of repetitive finger exercises. I saw him a couple years ago with Steve Vai after the NAMM show, and he was phenomenal.

Levi, can you play this lick yourself? this lick is extremely difficult to perform.

the problem with Gilbert is that everything he plays sounds like an exercise

He's a beast! I love guitarists with a diverse background like Paul Gilbert. Eddie Van Halen opened the door for Classically influenced rock musicians, even though Van Halen doesn't sound "Neo-Classical" by any stretch.

He was Bucketheads teacher. He's got decent chops. 😳
He needs a haircut though. Very scruffy looking individual. Would never pass muster looking like that.
