  • Nathan Airchime 80's K5H with 80's 4 & 5 bells, along with 1 2 & 3 bells from a mid 90's square tag K3L. Experiment was done with 30 gallons of 130 psi, resulting in minimal horn blowing at full proper psi.
The K5H and K5L were used primarily by BC Rail in Canada. They were extremely rare on American railroads until the mid-1980's, when railroads such as CSX, Norfolk Southern, Southern Pacific, Chicago & North Western, and New York Susquehanna & Western received the K5H on a few orders of GE locomotives. The horns on the SP and CNW GE's have largely been replaced with three-chime horns. A few K5L horns have shown up on Amtrak locomotives.
Original factory tuning was: D# minor 6th (D#,F#,A#,C,D#)

My gosh, what a gorgeous sounding mutt K5H! Mixing up the bells produces some very interesting results, and this one sings a song of joy. Great horn blow of your experimental horn! Thumbs up!

Hey Hakeem, yes different bell combos change it more then you'd think, I knew this K3L sounded good already so I figured adding these bells would make the K5H sound even better and I was right, besides a little warble it sounds great, thanks my friend.

@@nathanairchime9019 Absolutely, I definitely can hear the warble you're referring to upon a second listen and I gotta say, it adds some real character to the horn's song. Anytime brother.

The Canadian K5s are my favorite K horns. That D# minor 6th is such a pleasing chord to listen to. Lovely recording.

Now that’s my favorite horn! Raised Letter K5s are unfortunately not the same as Narrow Font and older!

One of the Amtrak P42s had an identical sounding horn a few years back. Forget the number. 114 perhaps?
