Fun fact! Both Lori Petty and Malcom McDowell voiced villains that appeared in Superman The Animated Series. Lori voiced Livewire and Malcom voiced Metallo.
The main issue with the movie is that the director wanted to make it appropriate to the comic. The studio however wanted an origin story, despite the comic not having one. They wanted an explanation for the mutant kangaroos. They requested bizarre changes to the script, used production art instead of building models, cut out most of Sub Girl's scenes, had the star ad-lib a bunch of extra dialogue "to test with audiences", etc. Sadly a lot of what they cut were scenes that made Tank Girl a likeable character with a bit of depth. So when you see the comic art and the animation, that's all padding the studio had to put in to make up for all their cutting after the fact... This movie could have, and should have been a vulgar sarcastic parody of Mad Max. Instead it's Solarbabies on crack.
The problem is not only did the production run out of money and time near the end of filming, but the comics (love 'em btw) are almost anthology based. What I mean is they center around Tank Girl and her kangaroo boyfriend Booga, but there's not really an overlapping extended storyline. Its just different situations with her, Booga, her badass friend Jett (in the comics she's smart but definitely not some mousy twit) or the people she interacts with. It was difficult to make a full story out of it, at least film wise. Not to mention Tank Girl is very much an adult comic, complete with dicks, cussing, voilence to... well fuckin' everyone. Later on she has a son with a friggin' TV for a head. The comics are crazy and just enjoying the insane adventures Tank Girl deals with. But fuck it I still loved this movie when I was little and even now, it had a major impact on my personality and who I am today. Weird to say I know, but Tank Girl and her rocket tits will always hold an explosive place in my heart
Alan Martin and Jamie Hewlett (Tank Girls writer and original artist) have both publicly admitted the only thing they like about the film is Jamie’s tank design

+R3j3cts0fv0w3ls He IS over doing it. He's given some shittier films some better points. Nostalgia Critic can be lame half the time. Most of this review wasn't a review and most of the criticism wasn't criticism but stupid jokes that were far dumber than the ones on film. Sometimes his criticism actually makes him look stupid Example: His criticism for the awful Super Mario Bros. movie has him at one point watching a clip where Luigi says, "You don't know who your mother and your father are neither? Mario brought me up! He's been my Mother my whole life." Mario says, "Hey!" and Luigi says, "Ok My Father! He's been my Father, My mother, my uncle you name it." Shitty film, but he is simply saying that his brother pretty much raised him. Yet the Nostalgia Critic quickly adds that he thought they brothers, but now he says Mario is his father? Simply put, Who the Hell would honestly misunderstand that ESPECIALLY with the Obvious Mario Brothers and sibling jokes constantly being tossed around. My problem is that sometimes he doesn't get the obvious and other times he sees art where it obviously isn't and sometimes his criticism isn't criticism but mockery that isn't even vaguely funny to even a four yr old, but at times he does give some very well placed criticism and good reviews and is occasionally funny as well as spot on (I LOVE his Cat in The Hat criticism. I like to believe thats why they stopped the live-action garbage franchises they were trying to do.)
Ok this is the first time i really disagree with Nostalgia Critic. i still love this movie, it's crazy, it's stupid and it's like an acid trip X3 it's one of my guilty pleasure movies XD
I feel like this was one of those films that was made in the wrong year. Given its comic book origins this would be perfect in today’s world. I think someone mentioned in the comments that it would have made a great animated series and I tend to agree. This movie was about a decade before my time but even I have to agree that it’s a total guilty pleasure. It’s like Independence Day in that yeah it’s total bullshit but it checks all the right boxes to be one of the ultimate guilty pleasures.
It looks like the comments have settled this one: this is a terrifically bad movie, who many people totally enjoyed. I personally liked this movie for all its corniness and awkward dialogue. Familiarity with the comic makes it much more enjoyable. I feel like this is a quintessential 90s B movie. It will be remembered fondly for decades to come. But no matter what, I always love NC reviews
With all its weirdness and cheesiness, it was still a fucking enjoyable movie. I liked it. And i actually liked Tank Girl. it was just so, totally bananas in a good way. Maybe just does not please every taste.
+John Fookgov I read through the comments and Riley did start a fight and made claims that I know he can't back up. All you did was give your opinion of this guy and his channel. I have to say he does act dumb giving the review. I think this movie is cool because I think it mixes action, adventure and comedy.
+Archangel_Omega One more thing. If you are going to claim that 90% of all anime's has terrible dubs then you need to get your facts straight because that is just what we call wishful thinking like your post.
+Archangel_Omega The only one pathetic is you telling me I am pathetic for giving my opinion on the way this guy gives his review and I have the right to. You kind of show a form of Nazism because it seems like you want to silence people's opinion. From your comments I can guess you are a Nazi and have a small brain to think subs are great. Like fookgov says "If I wanted read something I would read a damn manga. Anime show are meant to be watched not read." And if anyone wants to find out how tough I am then I will tell you what city I live in and I can show you how tough I am. Oh if people want to post short messages (more then 1) then that is their right and john didn't swear, he just re wrote what Kerrine wrote. The way you respond to people are proving you are just an attention troll.
@@trahapace150 REALLY??? Harley Quinn is a piece of shit character?? um...I’m sorry but Harley Quinn is one of the most iconic characters in the Dc universe
Groundhog Day 1993 is AWESOME! Also my life summed up too. Feels like a Groundhog Day-style loop of just me living every boring shitty moment I've ever had, from somehow contracting epilepsy when I was 16, and in high school, so 2009, dropped out of high school in 2012, lost my best friend, because he completely forgot we were even best friends once he got a girlfriend, and he was in the middle of helping me through DMC4 on the 2nd hardest difficulty level, something I couldn't do myself, I've NEVER had a girlfriend, I've been rejected by too many girls to remember, except for the last one, which happened 2 months ago, where the girl I've had a crush on for the past 2 years, ends up finding out how I feel about her, only for her to tell ME that she feels the same way, and has for the same time, but that certain things in her personal life prevented her from acting on those feelings and she'd been regretting it ever since. But I was too stupid to believe an actual, REAL girl could have romantic feelings for ME, but I guess I WAS right after all! I thought I was just delusional, but NOPE!! I was right!!! And on the same day I told her these things, through text, she said she wasn't" mature enough" to be in a serious relationship with me, and that "MAYBE yes, we COULD be together in SOME future, but for now I want to keep talking, even if it's as friends". THAT was 2 months ago. Now, for the last 4 Saturday's,which is 4 weeks in a row she's stopped replying to my texts altogether, so i guess i can take that as a sign that even SHE'S had enough of my shit... It's ALL my fault anyways.... even though I KNEW this would happen, it STILL felt like a sucker punch, and it STILL hurt, but it hurt WORSE than what I initially expected, at least 50-100× worse. So, even though I expected rejection, and knew it was coming I was still disappointed, hurt, scarred, and let down by this. I should be used to disappointment by now anyways, but I guess that's what I get for trying to find love, isn't it? I've been at this for 18 years, since I was 7, a little boy, so around 2001. I just don't know how everyone around me found love so goddamn easily, when it keeps escaping me EVERY SINGLE TIME. I also don't get HOW 2 people who can feel the SAME way about each other, and yet, STILL NOT start taking their relationship to the next fucking level! It's just me, isn't it? I'm not here to find love, just as an excuse for someone to mock and make them feel better about their lives, while i sit here, by myself, and wonder why me? Why do I have to be lonely? Why can't a guy like ME enjoy nerdy things like anime or video games, and STILL be able to find love, and not have to feel like he's alone in the world? But I guess it's just me. I know I SHOULD be used to disappointment by now, and not be that bummed, but I am. And I'm especially sick of seeing ALL of these couples, or something relating to them, like when I keep hearing love songs on the radio, seeing romances in films, in anime, even here, in certain TH-cam comments sections, even in games I love too, its inescapable, and all of it keeps constantly reminding me of what I don't and will most likely NEVER have. Man, I just wanted to be happy with this girl, who I thought was the one I'd been looking for my whole life, but like every other time, I was WRONG, dead fucking wrong. So, it must be a Groundhog Day-style loop, where I keep reliving the worst times of my life, and have to keep remembering them, as if they happened yesterday. Like losing my best friend to his girlfriend, or me, being rejected, over and over, and over and over again, like all of the girls in the entire world got together, and ALL collectively decided I was only the "just friends" guy, but not suitable for dating. It makes sense though, I'm just too fat, ugly, and nerdy for ANY girl to feel like they'd want to date me, even if I were the last man on earth, even if I'd paid them, they STILL(reasonably), wouldn't want to even PRETEND to be my girlfriend for an hour, or even just a day or 2 or a week!! I'm sorry for venting this much of my pathetic life to you good sir. Have a great day/night.
story behind why it might seem kinda shitty? the studio that bought the rights to make the movie gutted the buget becuase it was weird and that was the WHOLE FUCKING REASON THEY BOUGHT IT the comicbook shots? needed becuase of the stupid amouts of footage that got cut and didnt have the buget for half the SFX shoots they wanted to do it has SOOOO much more potential if it was given more money it could have been great
The Nuka-Cola Man it is one of those small indapentdents that bought it becuase it was weird then wanted to get artsy with it like "whats her Motavation" the studio had re-writen the scritp like 5 times and the director and cast and crew said fuck the rewrites and hi jacked the move and ad libbed seens FUCK THERE WAS A WHOLE MOCK SEX SENCE between tank and one of the ripper while she was where the madonna rocket bra that got cut last second
(speech check 100%) But that's circular logic. "Oh my god... for some reason as a giant supercomputer designed to lead a country, I wasn't programmed to be able to handle that! WHAT DO I DO!?"
I love that he mocks the look of tank girl, when that is the thing that the movie got very right for me: Her look 😁 Also him saying the nonsensical musical number is absolute bottom of the barrel insanity. And I’m like… yeah that’s Tank Girl!
I have a feeling that the review would be completely different if Doug would film it nowdays. And I don''t mean that obviously Tamara would be cos-playin Tank Girl in some stupid skits, no. Like, 7:26, he'd never allow himself such genuine joke anymore.
I could easily see a remake of this. Sort of in the style of MadMax, with comedy mixed in. And with those transitions, they could pop up as drawings, and than have it fade into the real set. That's how you do a transition like that!
Creature creator Stan Winston (who cut his rates in half to work on this film) designed the Rippers and threw in Predator elements because it was fun and funny. If you don't know, he designed the Predators in the first place. That no name extra that didn't put this on his resume, was Richard Schiff who went on to win "outstanding supporting actor" for the West Wing. Love her or hate her, Courtney Love was the music designer on the film and the soundtrack is still one of the best. The disjointed nature of the film is due in part of the lack of Balls Hollywood has. There were creative differences between the studio and the crew from day one and it was a nearly impossible film to make. The studio fought so much and insisted so much get cut, that much of the story was lost and some scenes just don't fit because of their meddling. They had such a small budget, that chunks of big action scenes had to be animated... those trippy animated scenes add to the movie in my opinion and make it even more irreverent and a big middle finger to the typical vanilla American cinematic experience. I'm sorry you didn't get it, but hopefully others watching this will take the time to see it regardless. I liked it.
With a lot of word going around about studios dropping comic movies due to superhero fatigue and poor production, direction, and faith to the source material, I highly doubt that’s going to go through. Movies based on comic books at this point just need to stop already.
I can't wait for Tank Girl 2 Where Tank Girl becomes a Lightning themed villain to kill Superman. As well as Tank Girl 3 where Tank Girl joins a cult of Joker to destroy Young Batman
If you want to find out what went wrong with Tank Girl you should look for the "Exploring Tank Girl" video. Tank Girl was a huge waste of potential, it's a damn shame. The film should have been somewhere between Deadpool and Mad Max and come to think of it should probably have been fully animated. We're talking about a character that, in the comics, snuck up behind a soldier and hit him over the head with an atomic bomb.
Don’t forget she was added in the game Broforce which is a f**kin’ awesome game and Tank Girl plays pretty damn well in it so at least she’s got that goin’ for her as well as her kickass comic!
"What do you reckon.....we go to New York, see 'Cats'?" Ummm, no thanks. The movie got 18% on Rotten Tomatoes. Those comic page transitions aren't as annoying as the "Inspector Gadget" transitions.
the creators of the comic hated the production experience and were disappointed with the final product. Apparently a lot of the animated sections were created because the production team forgot to film the transitions. That is why there was never attempt at another movie, it soured them on the experience. I liked the movie when I was in High School/College. Less and less as I got older and realized it was kinda annoying and poorly done.
I never stopped liking it. I never even heard of the comic when I was younger. But the movie was crazy. And I liked crazy white girls. So...I loves this movie lol
To be honest I enjoyed the movie, and the ending cartoon scene actually made me want to see a lot more of it, but in that cartoon format. I can't pinpoint or argue why i enjoyed it but i really enjoyed it, funny enough it came out on my literal year of birth too.
Agreed. A good, solid Anime so that the Rippers actually look like 'roos would be fantastic. Keep a bit of the humour though. Too gritty, and it'll just be a drag.

+Jesus Perez Man you need to stop taking his reviews so seriously... They're mostly satire.
Ok this is the first time i really disagree with Nostalgia Critic. i still love this movie, it's crazy, it's stupid and it's like an acid trip X3 it's one of my guilty pleasure movies XD
Same this film is one of my favorites
Phortion Too bad it bombed in the box office and Lori petty’s career wasn’t the same since
I feel like this was one of those films that was made in the wrong year.
I watched it for the first time ever a few weeks ago and I liked it.
Its not a film youre supposed to take too seriously.
Young Naomi Watts....is not my girlfriend, bangfriend, lover or wife on this scene. *DING
Sir Iron Duke scene does not contain a lap dance DING
They should have made it a cartoon instead, I like the cartoons though.
16:38 - That's a REALLY good Dr. Claw impression!
This would be so much better if it was actually animated and stuff.
15:32 I like how he says that's probably why they threw the comics up. The comics scenes when I watched the movie was hilarious to me either way
Lori Petty is LIVE WIRE! and her wacky fun and spirit really carried this crazy bag of weirdness.
Ironically it could have made a great animated movie, if they followed the comic style.
My first Nostalgia Critic video.I remember laughing so much the first time I saw it.
I can't remember if it was my first but I agree how funny it is
this is only from 1995?
I thought I saw this in the 80s. Weird.
I do love this movie.
huh mandola effect
The comic-book first appeared in 1988.
16:51 that's so funny, I bought a copy of Tank Girl and the Street Fighter movie in a bargain bin in a grocery store around 1996 for $1 each! LMAO
Did you ever get your money back?
"I don't wanna remember it."
-Nostalgia Critic, 2009
One of the few times I disagreed with the Critic, I like this movie, and the soundtrack is awesome.
good to know there is another sane person out there besides me.
@@COVIDpanic Add another! I love this movie, and I absolutely LOVE the soundtrack! It introduced me to so many GREAT groups!
The movie is stupid but that's half the fun. The other half is balls to the wall complete lack of taking itself seriously.
7:27
His reaction gets me every time
i would be interested in a cartoon version that sticks to the comic
"Hello I'm the Nostalgia Critic, I remember it-(sobs upsettingly)- but I don't wanna!
Yeah, we all saw the video.
4:54 I think this is like with the Inspector Gadget film where random segways that meant to transition but don't mean anything.
“This is me unconscious.”
LOL!
Nostalgia Critic: "Yeah well, That was fucking stupid "
Me: LOL!
I still fucking love this movie! Its hilarious how much you hate it, love these reviews too. Cant stop watching them
With all its weirdness and cheesiness, it was still a fucking enjoyable movie.
I liked it. And i actually liked Tank Girl. it was just so, totally bananas in a good way.
Maybe just does not please every taste.
So, it was not bad in its own right, but very unfaithful to the source material.
+Archangel_Omega The only one pathetic is you telling me I am pathetic for giving my opinion on the way this guy gives his review
and I have the right to. You kind of show a form of Nazism because it
seems like you want to silence people's opinion. From your comments I can guess you are a Nazi and have a small brain to think subs are great. Like fookgov says "If I wanted read something I would read a damn manga. Anime show are meant to be watched not read."
And if anyone wants to find out how tough I am then I will tell you what city I live in and I can show you how tough I am. Oh if people want to post short messages (more then 1) then that is their right and john didn't swear, he just re wrote what Kerrine wrote. The way you respond to people are proving you are just an attention troll.
A weird thought but, am I the only one who would watch an animated movie in the style of that quick dream sequence?
lose the nearly seizure-inducing color changes, and I'd watch it.
Only positive from it was that by selling the rights to tank girl Jamie Hewlett was able to finance the first Gorillaz record/project.
GORILLAZ!!!!
(also, tank girl reminds me of Harley Quinn)
McNuggets Jugger except tank girl isn't an overhyped piece of shit character.
McNuggets Jugger ikr

@@trahapace150 REALLY??? Harley Quinn is a piece of shit character?? um...I’m sorry but Harley Quinn is one of the most iconic characters in the Dc universe

17:10 "Well I'm used to disappointed by now, so I'm not really that bummed."
My life in a nutshell xD
Have a great day/night.

the studio that bought the rights to make the movie gutted the buget becuase it was weird and that was the WHOLE FUCKING REASON THEY BOUGHT IT
the comicbook shots?
needed becuase of the stupid amouts of footage that got cut and didnt have the buget for half the SFX shoots they wanted to do
it has SOOOO much more potential if it was given more money it could have been great
Wow...fuck holywood
The Nuka-Cola Man it is one of those small indapentdents that bought it becuase it was weird then wanted to get artsy with it like "whats her Motavation" the studio had re-writen the scritp like 5 times and the director and cast and crew said fuck the rewrites and hi jacked the move and ad libbed seens
FUCK THERE WAS A WHOLE MOCK SEX SENCE between tank and one of the ripper while she was where the madonna rocket bra

I like this film for what it's worth.
Sweet America, this is your president, John Henry Eden.
(speech check 100%) But that's circular logic.
"Oh my god... for some reason as a giant supercomputer designed to lead a country, I wasn't programmed to be able to handle that! WHAT DO I DO!?"
I love that he mocks the look of tank girl, when that is the thing that the movie got very right for me: Her look 😁
Also him saying the nonsensical musical number is absolute bottom of the barrel insanity. And I’m like… yeah that’s Tank Girl!
Nostalgia chick did a better review this movie
Dude, how much I liked this movie, while growing up, back then in the mid 90's. I feel like watching it again, gotta love its silly wackiness
That's... *not* Gwen Stefani?!
I never knew - I didn't watch this movie either.
this si one of my favorite movies, I still quote the line "It's been swell, but the swellings gone down." All the time.
Me too! I love that line!
this is a guilty pleasure of mine. fucking love this movie
finally a sane person comments!! korynnininm you keep your guilty pleasure. I fucking love this movie too!

I just watched this movie.
I LOVE it!
I have a feeling that the review would be completely different if Doug would film it nowdays. And I don''t mean that obviously Tamara would be cos-playin Tank Girl in some stupid skits, no. Like, 7:26, he'd never allow himself such genuine joke anymore.
hes also very tame compared to his younger self in the newer vids he try's to see more positive of a movie
@@Griffith74 Not only that, he doesnt review bad movies nearly as much anymore, these days he does videos on GOOD ones! I never watch those.
I liked it.
Honestly, I'm looking forward to seeing Margot Robbie play Tank Girl. Yes. There's talks of them remaking this movie and I'm all for it.
I really hope she pulls it off. Otherwise it would just Harley Quinn with less make up.
Not to mention that this Tank Girl was set in Australia, where Naomi Watts even started her acting career.
They should really make it an animated movie this time. At least have Margot Robbie voice the character.
Feels kind of appropriate too. They cast Livewire as the first Tank Girl, and Harley Quinn as the second
With a lot of word going around about studios dropping comic movies due to superhero fatigue and poor production, direction, and faith to the source material, I highly doubt that’s going to go through. Movies based on comic books at this point just need to stop already.
has anyone realized Lori Petty played Lolly?! :O
I can't wait for Tank Girl 2 Where Tank Girl becomes a Lightning themed villain to kill Superman.
As well as
Tank Girl 3 where Tank Girl joins a cult of Joker to destroy Young Batman
If you want to find out what went wrong with Tank Girl you should look for the "Exploring Tank Girl" video. Tank Girl was a huge waste of potential, it's a damn shame. The film should have been somewhere between Deadpool and Mad Max and come to think of it should probably have been fully animated. We're talking about a character that, in the comics, snuck up behind a soldier and hit him over the head with an atomic bomb.
5:38 POCKET SAND
Tank Girl was co-created by Jamie Hewlett, the guy co-created the Gorillaz and does the art for the band.
Tank Girl is better than any Doug Walker film that's for sure.
To be honest, I think Ren And Stimpy Was Less Insane Than This.😑
That's quite an accomplishment acually...
Don’t forget she was added in the game Broforce which is a f**kin’ awesome game and Tank Girl plays pretty damn well in it so at least she’s got that goin’ for her as well as her kickass comic!
She plays livewire in the superman animated series and she does a great job brining that villian to life no joke

"What do you reckon.....we go to New York, see 'Cats'?"
Ummm, no thanks. The movie got 18% on Rotten Tomatoes.
Those comic page transitions aren't as annoying as the "Inspector Gadget" transitions.
This movie is one of my serious guilty pleasures.
Like A v P, Freddy vs Jason, X-Men 3, and Judge Dredd.
the creators of the comic hated the production experience and were disappointed with the final product.
Loved this movie when I first saw it as a kid, and I still love it today, but it's pretty hilarious how NC rips this movie a new one. ^_^
You do???
Twenty years later, the same director went on to direct the most critically acclaimed episode of Doctor Who to date.
To be honest I enjoyed the movie, and the ending cartoon scene actually made me want to see a lot more of it, but in that cartoon format. I can't pinpoint or argue why i enjoyed it but i really enjoyed it, funny enough it came out on my literal year of birth too.
Ice tea saying there ain’t gonna be no crumpets and tea is totally worth the watch
they need to remake this movie
and do a cross over with Deadpool
Anime versión oh God yes
The character and concept are good. The movie didn't take the concept seriously enough. Should be more like Mad Max with a tank.. and a sexy girl.
Agreed. A good, solid Anime so that the Rippers actually look like 'roos would be fantastic. Keep a bit of the humour though. Too gritty, and it'll just be a drag.
Shiny Sneasel fk you and everyone and everything at your house!
From what I've heard since this Jamie Hewlett hasn't been able to trust Hollywood ever since this movie
I feel like this is what Birds Of Prey is gonna be like
Rapping marsupials is a phrase that should only be used if you're giving someone a kangaroo for Christmas.
This movie is so ahead of its time it feels like an AU Birds of Prey.
