Thank you! I agree, this hobby should be all about having fun and not getting too worked up about these pieces of pretty jewelry that display the time.
Agree ..something so satisfying about a watch that punches well above its weight and grabs wrist time from all your ridiculously expensive pieces .. I have a quartz and automatic prx and a rado captain cook that I got 40 % under list this runs 1 sec fast over 9 days or so , amazing … Its lovely when a piece way exceeds expectations and the prx is one of those gems .
Hi Bruce, I'm right there with you. I wear my mid-priced watches much more often and with more pleasure than my expensive watches. Watch joys have no price tag.
The “light play” got me too😍 I purchased my PRX Powermatic 80 about 4 months ago and been in honeymoon phase ever since. That satisfying feeling whenever I’m about to check the time and do the wrist roll movement😂
I totally understand where you are coming from. I just bought a Tissot Telemeter 1938 chronograph with a black and gold dial that retails for $1,950. Even though my budget is 2-3 times more than that, I could not find any other vintage look chrono that “speaks” to me more than this “cheaper” Tissot. I don’t care about price or brand cache (within my stated budget) but just the aesthetics and how they make me feel if I were to disregard the brand logos.
Great video and watch! I get the same enjoyment from my PRX with the rose gold fluted bezel. It may not be the value prop that other PRXs offer, but it was definitely the one that spoke to me. Happy to see you enjoying your PRX!
I am very happy in the sub $5K range. I have a few watches I want in the $10K and above range but my happy place is way under that. I also love my Tissot PRC Chrono.
I have a PRX Powermatic 80 and it's one of my favorite watches. Granted I can't afford a Rolex or anything like that (yet) but in my opinion it's just such a great watch for the money.
I have to agree Bruce. I can have as much or more satisfaction wearing a watch that is at the lower price point than at the higher. It's all down to what the days activities are and what mood I'm in. I think many enthusiasts try to justify the expense of more expensive pieces with the satisfaction value on the wrist as you mention. I've said it before but if I like a watch and can justify and afford it it may end up being purchased. Tissot hit it right out of the ballpark with the PRX and as you mention the light play and finish is far higher than you would expect at this or far higher price points. I went for the panda dial chronograph some months ago and can't fault it at all. The Valjoux 7753 based movement within is a very well proven workhorse movement that should be easy to get serviced.
Buddy, thank you! My absolute favorite non dive watch is that Blue Vacheron but its way out of my league. Then I saw that Tissot. I can't believe how much better it looks in your wrist than the picture I saw on line. I want one now. Haha
This is great content. As someone who appreciates value, I’d love to see more like this, showing us watches that represent value and an experience that is greater than you would expect relative to the purchase price. Value can be found at all prices.
I have 6 rolex that i love ….. two months ago i start buying entry level watches and i im love … seiko prospex spb187, seagull chrono, tissot prx80 , seiko 5 gmt ….. oh boy no more rolex time for real
Part of the joy in receiving a good mid-level watch is your understanding that you can't believe you got such a good deal! This has happened many times with me. Also when I receive the watch I get a feeling that I am the smartest watch guy around and can't believe that people don't understand this particular watch. I feel good that I get what other people don't get. But of course, then I'll go out and order a real shi-ter.
PRX chrono kicked out the Speedy for me. My speedy went forgotten and dusty, so I sold it. Also got myself the Tissot Gentleman and spend like 1k on leather straps alone over years. This watch is a strap monster, such a banger. Can't wait for the Chrono to get some nice strap options. Great content!
I love Chrono ,s and tried on the Tissot and the Prx. The Prx caught my eye and i love the dial. When i tried on the New Tissot Chronograph i was surprised at the weight of 186 grams. It just didnt do it for me .
Prx chronograph is the chronograph of the year imo. If I worked for design at tissot I’d stop production of the chronograph and bring wback again in about 10 years in a new Color. That would outsmart the luxury watch gang
Bruce, I couldn't agree more. I bought one of these last month and I love it. I have watches many times the cost of this one and yes, it's "stealing" wrist time from them. Oh, and I used your coupon at Saltzman's for a very nice discount.
I lived the PRX chrono from the moment I seen it. Went into a jewellers to buy it as soon as it came in and was dismayed that it was just too big. You need a big flat wrist for it to not look silly due to that lug to lug and thickness.
Watches have become expensive compared to 10 years ago. The prices have soared now. In my experience you do appreciate the more expensive models, although once you get over 5k it hard to see where your money goes. I tend to buy preowned as it makes them feel better value for money. I've had cheaper watches that I've really enjoyed , but once you step into the luxury world , its hard to go back . I've spent about 10k on my collection , which would have cost more than 15k, so I'm quite happy with what I've got. I want to slim it down a bit, to get to about 3 , but I can't bear to sell them now . I still wear all of them occasionally, so I think I've chosen wisely.
I have the prx quartz and kinda stopped wearing it cause every where I go, someone is wearing one. Currently wearing my tudor gmt root beer, one of the reasons why I bought it was cause it looked so amazing on your channel Bruce!
Hi Bruce, that's a good looking watch. Still would have held on to that VC though. But sometimes the higher up you go, the satisfaction goes down. I think that comes down to wearing 20000 plus on your wrist, you become afraid to scratch it, and there for don't enjoy it.
Fair point. I think I've passed that. I scratch up my rolexes that have equivalent value. I think it's just time. You get used to it same as 500 or 2000 for the first time
Nice video, Bruce. Curious how you feel the Defy (both the classic / skeleton and the skyline) stacks up? It's really caught my eye as an upgrade to the PRX down the road. My PRX Powermatic 80 is my cheapest watch, but it's certainly a very enjoyable one. I like the bracelet a lot, but the Delugs rubber strap is incredible. I haven't taken it off since the strap arrived. Lots of heavy hitters in my collection missing out on wrist time at the moment.
The defy is incredible. One of the best bracelets in the business and the open work dial version has so much visual interest. I should be reviewing a skyline soon. I think that will end up being my favorite as I am a sucker for steel
@@BruceWilliams I tried on the skeleton and loved it. The titanium and lack of any easy sort of strap changing system deterred me. The skyline seems incredible. Plus, if you remember, I already have the movement in the Chronomaster Original, so I love that touch here! Thinking of adding the blue eventually.
This was a great video, and definitely food for thought (as I sit on the Rolex wait list). I tried on the silver variant. It was nice, but maybe a touch bigger than ideal. They didn't have the blue panda, which would be my choice. I wonder if the darker dial would make it look a little smaller. The 40mm PRX is a great size (7.25" wrist) on me without question. Btw, I loved your VC. That specific version I find more appealing than either a blue Royal Oak or Patek Nautilus, but that's just my opinion.
7.2 inch wrist? 42mm should be the minimum watch size for you. I have a 7 inch wrist, and most of my watches are 41mm and up, anything smaller, it looks like you're wearing your gf or wife's watch.
I prefer non flat case back like the PRX Chrono, it gives some air to breath underneath and the crown would take more angle to hit the back wrist, what do you think Bruce?
if it's near your hand, you're wearing it too low, wear it above the wrist bone. Good rule of thumb, you should be able to do a push up with your watch on.
To bad We have import VAT and fees to Sweden, otherwise I would use the discount code, with the fees it would be the same amount as in Sweden 19.995 SEK ≈ 2K usd!! It’s really hard to find the Tissot PRX Chronograph in your price, with the saved 500 usd I could buy the new Seiko 5 GMT, which is also a great buy! Stay healthy Bruce, Thanks for a great video!👍🏻
I caught one of your earlier videos and was wondering when this comparison would happen! I love the chrono PRX as an alternative to Vacheron or AP that punches way above its price category, but I just don't have the wrist for it. Maybe I'll get one of the 35mm models one day!
Bruce....Great Video! It really fits my state of mind. I'm thinking of a "mid level" purchase tonight. There is an Oris Aquis NY Harbor edition with the MOP green dial on a great cyber Monday sale from my AD. I LOVE LOVE the dial and it will be my most affordable piece by far at 2g's. As you know, I'm a movement guy and my only hesitation is the base SW200. I know you have some experience with this piece. Do you think I should let the SW200 and 38 hour p/r get in the way of buying a watch I'm really drawn to? TIA.... A.S
I just bought the NY Harbor edition this past weekend! I saw it a few months back at the AD and could not get the MOP dial out of my mind. I like it for all of the same reasons you mentioned. The bonus was it also includes a great bracelet so really happy with that. I also hesitated on the movement compared to Oris’s in house movement, but figure the SW200 is a movement that has a lot of history. I have a lot of watches so the power reserve doesn’t bother me that much. I recently also bought an Omega SM 300 Ekton edition and they wear almost identically. Very comfortable and wearable. Highly recommend…the MOP dial is so big and beautiful. Even though this is a limited edition, still got a decent discount. This was my first Oris, MOP, and green dial. Let me know what you decided to do!
I went to try on the regular PRX with firm intention to buy right then and there if I liked it, I had high expectations due to all the hype but once I had it on my wrist It just didn’t do it for me, maybe it is the integrated bracelet design but I just could not feel the connection, I can scrap it out of my list for now.
Integrated bracelets just look modern and played out at the same time. I prefer the classic designs from Seiko. When it comes to modern design I like the innovation coming from Gshock.
I'm in 2 minds about mid-tier. If there's a watch you love then go for it as there's plenty of great pieces like the PRX. But if you really want the VC I'd pass on the PRX and keep saving. In other words don't settle for a cheaper alternative.
The chrono is 1500, versus the VC which is ... 35k? Sorry but this is one of the occasions where you should absolutely consider a cheaper alternative. If you have to save for a watch that expensive you probably shouldn't be buying it.
Tissot is the best bang for your buck brand. I love my 2 liner Seastar. But it is nowhere close to wearing a Sub. Both are nice in the collection. My Seiko Flightmaster on NDC strap is even more of a gem at $250, $310 after buying the strap. Tons of features, no servicing.
