"i suddenly felt this weight lift off me, it's like i can breathe again" i think a lot of straight people who watch scenes like this can't fully understand what noah is really saying here. it's really easy to look at closeted characters and call them "cowards" or whatever, and so many people both back in the day and even now give noah so much flack for not being out. and yes, luke *is* brave for being open about his sexuality but it also cost him his relationship with his biological father and almost *his life*, multiple times. people who choose to remain closeted often do so for their own physical and emotional safety, and we know, even at this point that noah's father is violently abusive. this is a man he looked up to his whole life, and his only family in the world. and the idea of losing him made it feel worth it for noah to literally suffocate a part of himself. really think about that. yes, luke is brave an open and honest about himself here but it wasn't always that way precisely because he wasn't sure that he would be lucky enough to have a supportive family behind him. noah is telling luke, in every way he can that luke's presence makes his life worth living. and that is just as romantic and meaningful as any kiss or declaration of love.

this question pops up often! lol....my answer is always that as an actor, when you're in a role, you don't "pretend" to kiss someone. At the time that jake is playing noah he "is" noah and at the time that van is "playing" luke, he "is" luke, so the kiss is as real as any kiss that'd happen. It's real passion and love that they're portraying. S'not a fake it till you make it type deal. lol :D

On the plus side, what an amazing kiss. You can really see Noah's passion and how affected Luke is. Van gets in a great bit of acting when Noah touches Luke's hand and Luke kind of breathes, all, "DAMN this guy makes me hot." :)
