Mr & Mrs Toy Man look like you play nicely together and have many joyful minutes on your presentations including this one . Thanks for the passion and continued activities that makes me wanna grow up to be like the both of you.
Great job, Mr. and Mrs. Toy Man!! We've actually visited most all of these layouts during our trips to St. George. The Balsterholts, Schneiders, Fitches and Mayers welcomed us over even when it wasn't a meet day. Thank you all for being such fantastic ambassadors of garden railroading!
Yea. Love to see that run!!! I sort of wonder if it will go around the track. No real sharp curbs but still may not be able to get around it. A friend had one of those big boys. Well an early version. But he put in a special track in his front yard just to run it. About 15 foot radius curves. Really a huge oval in his front yard.
G Scale is my passion! I always loved how Gardening and moving train action combined so well together, thanks for showing these great layouts with so much incorporated rock & stone. Because of life's issues my G scale layout is much smaller and easier to work on than previous versions...now all that is running is a short line - "The Puckety Chute Railroad"
The key to a successful rail road especially with older people, I’ve met a few old people so I know, is keeping it really easy to get to know crawling around on the ground. I know Budget my crawling around on the ground events to four per day. So ground-level railroading is just right out.
Here is a succulent slice of large scale/G, of Garden Railroading at it's best. I almost, "fell-out" when my bride proclaimed, "We can do this." That was made worse by my mind saying, "Yes we can." Great visit. Greg and Jeanne.
Compliments of the season Dale and Karyn. Hoping your New Year is happy, and bright, and prosperous! We've thoroughly enjoyed watching all the beautiful trains, you had the patience to film for our viewing pleasure. Here's looking forward to seeing you set up your own little railroad this year. That, I'm sure, will be a true feast for our eyes. God bless, and have a great day!
Hi and thanks!! A bit more Tuesday for the new year! Still planning the railroad. Had that figured out. Or so I thought. So rethinking most of it. But next year we want to run some actual trains.
Thanks for taking the time to film all those great outdoor railroads and posting a video of them! These layouts are giving me some ideas for my own outdoor G gauge railroad.
Man. Seeing all these railroads makes me wanna move out of the city and get a nice plot of land and a pre fabricated home and build a railroad of my own in upstate NY. Just imagine what I could do with 2 acres or a little more of land and then imagine what it would look like when fall rolls around… :)
Hi you two, thanks for traveling down to St. George to see and record those wonderful Garden Railroads. What fun. I look forward to seeing and hearing about your Garden Railroad in the future. Dale sounds like you have a cold. I hope you're okay. Thank you. - Dean from Minnesota
Great episode. Like always seeing some else’s garden layout. Thanks for doing this. Really enjoy how you edit and arrange the background music as well.
I do love garden railroads. I fully understand and appreciate the amount of work they are, especially large ones, but boy they are fun. Are unique form of model railroading for sure.
Great tour! Thank you. A buddy of mine, also a reenactor, designs and installs garden railways all over the west coast. He lives only 35 minutes from me; but, I've never seen any of his work except on his Facebook page. I'd do this, too, if money wasn't an option. We've got a great "mountainous" property that would handle a very large piece of Colorado in 3 foot gauge! But, then I also want to live steam the hills behind the neighborhood... (none of it our property). Rats. Never hurts to dream big.
The only problem I'd like to point out is that I was just in St George and didn't know about all these layouts :) Great video as always, you two!!! In many ways, it's as if the dryer climates were designed for garden railroading!
Nice layout's, i do like that idea of moving my steam's back and froth to the train shed on some kind of rake/box instead of the handy cardboard box. Have it open on one side to display engine in shop.
I really love that system of driving the locomotive right into the wooden box and then transporting it to the shelf with the handle on top. That is slick
They are indeed amazing. Check for sure in the morning to see what we’re doing with our rail road. We found that type of rail road in the planter box is surprisingly called a planter box rail road. Well it fits.
Super job presenting the Garden Railroads of St. George, Utah! It's wonderful how you both enjoy the hobby, and the banter adds to the presentation. I'm sure there's more fun to come in the next decade! 😁 👍 👍 👍 Got some great ideas for my future layout in Colorado.
That was an enjoyable show. It's incredible what some people do in a small space in their yard. In some cases it takes over the whole yard! At one home their back and side yard had been dug out of the hill side so the layout runs in raised beds. The track looked to be something wider than G gauge. The one time I went by while the train was out the cars looked to be very caryoonish, like you would see in Who Framed Roger Rabbit. I had to stop and just watch it for a while.
We were just talking about Chicago last night! Do usual conversation about the disrespect shown to such a beautiful and dynamic city. The crime rates that people often talk about are way down from what they were a few years ago, but even then I never felt unsafe walking around under the el. Winters suck. But in the rest of the year Chicago any time!! Wanna get back.
It’s gotten more affordable over time but that’s not saying much is it! When I look at that 2000 foot rail road and I try to imagine that he spent somewhere around five dollars a foot, the mind boggles. Although that’s about the price of two of those big boys so nice to have money isn’t it!
This is a amazing garden railway. Also Union Pacific Big Boy 4017 is another UP Big Boy that survived today. It's on display at the National Railroad Museum in Green Bay, Wisconsin.
Toy Man Television yeah, it's a pretty nice looking UP Big Boy. There are eight survived UP Big Boys. Big Boy 4004 is on display in Holliday Park under restoration. Big Boy 4005 is at the Forney Museum. Big Boy 4006 is at the Museum Of Transportation in St. Louis, Missouri. Big Boy 4012 is at Steamtown National Historic Site in Scranton, Pennsylvania. Big Boy 4014 is in operation today since May 2019. Big Boy 4017 is at the National Railroad Museum in Green Bay, Wisconsin. Big Boy 4018 is at the Museum of the American Railroad in Frisco, Texas, relocated from Dallas in 2013. Big Boy 4023 is at Kenefick Park in Omaha, Nebraska on display.
IF I did a G scale layout it'd be of the Colorado Railroad Museum, The Georgetown Loop Railroad (modern) & the Ridgeway Railroad Museum but ALL the displays will work & run!! & updated whenever 1 gets a new piece or restores 1
Hi!!!! Hope you are well. This was a great trip. When we knew we were both having surgery we said ROAD TRIP! Editing and recovering. But both well enough now. Love my new hip! Still can’t drive a clutch though.
This fellow in the UK runs his O scale trains outside on a very long bench with a double dog bone. As they get quite a bot of rain his tracks are stainless steel. This might work for you.
Be sure to watch in the morning and we will show you where we’re installing our real Road. The rail I have is aluminum and I’m thinking of using it simply because I have a left over from my previous railroad and free is a good price. If I had it to do over and Budget was not a problem stainless steel would be the way to go.
This was great! Ive never seen theis scale up close and explained so well before, thank you! Also, on a different topic, what is happening at UP repair yards, for I heard a rumor that some engine is being taken out of service and there are no funds to repair or work on it??? ....your my source for up to date info on live trains!
I’m guessing that you’re referring to union pacific 3985. The Challenger locomotive. It was taken out of service a few years ago and it was announced that it would be rebuilt. As near as I can tell secretly they had no intention of rebuilding the engine. It has significant problems. But they didn’t want to announce publicly that they had no intention of rebuilding it. But there had been an idea floating around for quite some time to rebuild a big boy locomotive. And with the Challenger in such bad shape it was actually cheaper to rebuild a Big boy then repaired the Challenger. So without telling anybody that they had no intention of rebuilding the Challenger they simply went ahead and restored 4014, the big boy which I think was clearly intended as a replacement for 3985. And now they are publicly announcing that they will not be rebuilding 3985. But never say never and 3985 can be repaired if someone wants to spend the money to do it. It certainly will not be scrapped out it just won’t be rebuilt in the foreseeable future. In the meantime we can all enjoy a Big boy.
Do you have any live steam locomotives you got to at least have one for a garden rail road at least. Great video hope you two and your family had a merry Christmas and have a happy New Years
Hi. Nope. When we have a railroad then we would love to. Had a live steam boat fir a while. 30 minutes to get it moving then 15 minutes of run time. Still really fun.
You had a clip at 0:40 of a Sacramento Northern model train and then you didn't talk about or show any additional footage of the Sacramento Northern layout!?
The boxes for the locomotives are not a new idea, per see; it most likely derives from British model railroading where people don't often have much space. In lieu of a huge extravaganza, they build small, portable shelf layouts which represent one location ( a dockside, branchline terminal, etc.). Then, to represent "the rest of the world", they use such devices as fiddle tracks, train-length turntables, and what are called cassettes which are similar to what was in your video and serve much the same purpose.
Would really like to get to the other side of the pond and check out some of the railroads there, both real and models. Nothing like going to the source if you want to get serious.
0:41 is a Sacramento Northern 654 Steeplecab in Post-War Colors. I've been trying to look for one in HO or O Scale online but I can't seem to find anyone willing to sell them for below $1000!
You know, when I'm an old fart with money to do stuff I think I might as well build a multi level Garden Railroad Empire if my wife permits of course (if I even get a wife).
Really. I knew Nat Polk back in the day. I’m afraid we would drink whiskey together, Chivas regal but I digress. Such a dynamic company! Company was so old they were the purveyors of model railroads to the founding fathers, I could be wrong but I think Nat actually signed the Declaration of Independence. Don’t quote me on that but I think he did. Keep hoping someone will pick those lines up.
Mr & Mrs Toy Man look like you play nicely together and have many joyful minutes on your presentations including this one . Thanks for the passion and continued activities that makes me wanna grow up to be like the both of you.

Hi. And THANKS. Great garden railroads! And a beautiful place too
i love the bumble bee mogul and the trains on the shelf!
That last railroad was especially cool, I loved the water feature! Too bad he didn't have the big boy running

Very beautiful garden railroads
Love garden railroads

The garden railroads displayed in your video are amazing! There are some beautiful setups. Thanks again for another great video!
Right? Inspirational
What a great collection of outdoor railroads..many thanks.
Check back Tuesday
How great . Thanks for sharing these great railroads.😊
Glad you like them!
What a great way to bring the rail community together!! Absolutely great!! Thanks for posting!!
What a fun group! Great place too.
Watched your suggestion. Thanks it was very good. The two of you are a hoot.
Beautiful layouts in beautiful Saint George. Always loved Utah .
I lived there for two years. And still spend a lot of time there. Great place.
Thanks for taking the time to film all those great outdoor railroads and posting a video of them! These layouts are giving me some ideas for my own outdoor G gauge railroad.

Wow yes.
The size of my garden railway pales in comparison but i hope to add as much detail as possible come spring
Railbrony sure to watch the show in the morning. Get to see what we’ve been up to on ours.
Hi! Yup. We both caught cold. Surgery and virus. Oh joy! More st George soon.
Very impressive layouts. Thanks for sharing.
Be sure to watch the show tomorrow morning. A bit of follow up on the idea of a planter box rail road.
Love it! Thanks for bringing us along!
More soon!!
I love the back ground music, it really fits the views.
Thanks. I work hard on the music. Cause I love doing it. Glad you like it!!!! Thanks!!!
Happy New Year.
Back to you!

Dream big but build bigger. And I don’t necessarily mean size. I mean achieved dreams.
This is so cool, thanks for the video
Check back Tuesday
Great Railroads there.
Mike
Really!
Pretty cool layouts. The first and last were my favorite. Good ideas.
We agree on your choices there! Do you watch the show in the morning some more ideas on the planter box rail road
Yep in the mornings. Usually while drinking my pot of Coffee.
The only problem I'd like to point out is that I was just in St George and didn't know about all these layouts :)
Great video as always, you two!!! In many ways, it's as if the dryer climates were designed for garden railroading!
Really unknown. But the group is really getting attention now.
Looking good Werner !!

Seeing others work drives us forward. Inspiration and competition. Human stuff. Wow!!!
Nice video. Enjoy spending time on Sunday watching your videos.
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to both of you.
Merry Christmas and a happy new year right back to you! And thanks for following the channel! Oh and tell your friends!
Several years ago there was a brief fad where restaurants had LGB trains running on elevated tracks on the ceiling and walls.
Check out our show on Easter eggs and garden railroads.

Hi. Tuesday we look at our railroad. Omg. But we have been working on it.
Hello from Kansas 🇺🇸

This makes me want to go out and start making a garden railroad. The track is just so expensive though.
It’s gotten more affordable over time but that’s not saying much is it! When I look at that 2000 foot rail road and I try to imagine that he spent somewhere around five dollars a foot, the mind boggles. Although that’s about the price of two of those big boys so nice to have money isn’t it!

I never been to Green Bay, Wisconsin. But I would love to go there. Especially the train museum.
My gosh these layouts are beautiful! Nice video guys as always. Happy New Year!- Joey
They are something. Next year the toy train layouts
IF I did a G scale layout it'd be of the Colorado Railroad Museum, The Georgetown Loop Railroad (modern) & the Ridgeway Railroad Museum
but ALL the displays will work & run!!
& updated whenever 1 gets a new piece or restores 1
As long as it’s colorado narrow gauge I’m happy. Check back Tuesday
Wow! Happy new year!
You too. More on garden layouts Tuesday
Great video and layouts! I've often thought about a planter style garden layout.
Look at the show in the morning! No we don’t have that type of rail road but we’re building one. And we will show you the place that we’re building at
I just bought a Bachmann c-19 and it works perfect in my northern Utah railroad.
What railroad?
Toy Man Television It runs on my small outdoor layout I put out every summer. (In Ogden Utah) Hahah sorry I wasn’t very specific
But I have only run it indoors so far. I move the railroad into my basement in the winter.
Thx again
Hi. And thanks!!!
Another great piece of screwing around.
Hi!!!! Hope you are well. This was a great trip. When we knew we were both having surgery we said ROAD TRIP! Editing and recovering. But both well enough now. Love my new hip! Still can’t drive a clutch though.
If I were to have another G scale garden RR it would definitely be table level. And that cool bubble car would be a must have!
Check Tuesday. Plans for our railroad and progress.
This is really cool

As I said waiting for it.:-)
The BigBoy in this video is a USA Teains diecast steel Big Boy. Not a Accucraft Brass bigboy. I have both so I can confirm.
Those are amazing layouts, I hope to be getting started on mine this year, btw are you going to be doing a New Year's Eve video on Tuesday
Yup. Oddly not sure just what! Better get to work I guess.
thank you for that I really appreciate what you do, I just wonder, what car are you driving ?.
Ford Focus. Karyn’s car. My hip was so bad I couldn’t drive then. Good news new hip! Still can’t drive a clutch as yet but driving again!
