There are very few large scale elephant rescues. Most of the elephants are rescues from abuse. Many but not all babies are rescued from mothers being killed. The one I watch the most is this lady who started the rescue on a small piece of lsnd and has systematically bought more and more land to create a natural environment. She goes all over the country to rescue abused elephants as well as ones who have health issues. She rehabs them and lets them build friendships and create families so that when they are better they can go off with their family on to her vast property and live normal safe lives. People will also turn their elephants in to her for various reasons. She is very sensitive to their needs.

I like how elephants handle all their 5 members (with a great level of consiousness of them), while dogs and cats for exemple use their back legs only for moving (run, jump and eventually swim). Elephant are much more versatile, and use them for kicking and smashing (they realize they're heavy xD).
I also love elephants, but they belong in big family groups in the wild. The footage in Africa and possibly ENP in Thailand is lovely, but the rest makes me despair, and very sad. Elephant babies are not play things for humans on holiday, while a naturally very protective Mother is chained up, which I am convinced is happening here. No animal was put on earth to be held captive for our amusement as part of the tourist industry.

They receive socialization with other elephants who are not seen in the video, and can roam around freely in this reserve. They are monitored for injury and sickness, feed nourishing supplements and fresh water, and they love their mud holes. They even have a friendly caregiver who sprays them with water when they are too hot. Most importantly, they are safer from poachers, leg traps, and pits into which they may tragically fall, suffer horrendous pain lose their life. The entire elephant family gathers around and tries, sometimes in vain, to provide assistance. Although we people may attribute certain characteristic movements and gestures as humorous, cute, or silly we must remember they are young elephants just testing themselves, similarly as in human development and it has enough strength and weight to do critical injury at any time. They are wild animals, not Walt Disney animations. Respect is important at all times. God bless the folks who maintain their vigilance.
Hard to say who was chasing who. Could be that the much more intelligent and mischievous pachyderm was doing the teasing. Anyway, those dogs were no threat.
