  • Dr. Hamm, Medical Oncologist, Cancer Program, Windsor Regional Hospital and Certified Oncology Nurse, Debbie Sutton both presenting "Immunotherapy: What to Expect & Managing Side Effects".
Immunotherapy has emerged as a valuable treatment option for various types of skin cancers & melanomas. Immunotherapy works by harnessing the body's immune system to recognize and attack cancer cells. However, Immunotherapy can cause side effects, as it activates the immune system, and these side effects can vary from person to person.

I am a retired French Immersion teacher married to a Celtic skinned husband, who has developed a number of melanomas over the last 14 years. Luckily, we caught his tumour at the earliest stages 0-1. However, his older brother has developed a metastatic melanoma requiring Immunotherapy treatment. Dr. Hamm presented a very thorough presentation to the melanoma patient community. Top marks for Dr. Hamm!

This was really helpful and reassuring ladies. Grade 4 liver toxicity after 2 ipi nivo treatments here (also had the neuro peripheral neuropathy grade 1-2 and skin rash grade 1). Pred 2 mg/kg + mycophenalate for treatment. Tapering now (which is brutal) but all good. Managed by the Peter Mac, Melbourne Australia .

All treatments have associated side effects it is important to speak to your healthcare team and ask questions about your personal medical history.
