Am in Victoria, Vancouver Island. Tons of shore diving, some with long walks. A gear buggy is a godsend for an old guy with a bad back or knees. Ogden Point Breakwater is a 1km walk to the very end to dive there. Everything goes in the buggy and because we are in dry suit teritory, there is lots of lead. Who wants to carry all that.
2nd best item, a 20qt cooler full of HOT WATER. After an hr in 7C water, dumping a jug of hot water on ones head is glorious. Nice place to place ones hands. Lights, computers, regs, mask, spools all get immediate warm water rinse after the dive. The warm water is used to rinse off all my gear.

I usually bring the following when diving that are not going down with me.
1 - Dry sac. You know, because we are near a wet place and not all things should get wet. I put keys, maybe ID, tip for crew/boat in there, etc.
2 - Phone/camera for above water shots or even surface level pics.
3 - towel poncho. This is a game changer for me.
4 - sunglasses and hat. I like to dive where it's most often sunny.
5 - ocean friendly sunscreen as I am just this side of porcelain and wish to enjoy all of my diving and vacation days.

I now carry a mesh bag to load my gear onto a boat from my travel dive bag. A small dry sac would be a great addition for tee shirt and phone, etc.

We use a normal wooden hangers with pipe insulation foam around it.
That way it is cheap and not damaging our wet suits and also open space inside the wet suit to dry out and being strong (even in the sun or heat wood doesn't get very fragile (water isn't a problem too because it is impregnated)

You can not forget Crocs! Best after/between dives-shoes. Especially when in dry suit and think socks.

    • @markushesse3970
      @markushesse3970 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

Absolutely agree in principle, but Crocs, really? Had a pair, loved them for indoor, but on wet ground they just turn into suicide skates. They're selling them as boat shoes as well, which is absurd, imho.

I DIY'd a shoulder saver hanger by using a wooden hanger and adding trimmed giant pool noodle on the shoulders. Most hangers last me 3 years before I somehow manage to break the hook interface.

All my dives thus far have been local (Caribbean life), we use vegetable crates that are very similar to the milks crates. I also keep a plastic bin, about the same size as the crate, in my trunk to rinse gear after a dive. The hangers are important, one is enough for me, just got a wetsuit and a bcd on it. Never thought about the air gun, not sure I will need it just as yet. Steramine seems like a useful item, I’ll look into that before the next dive weekend.

The crates are rigid and can get in the way. They work in certain circumstances but also consider a mesh bag, especially if none of your gear is fragile. You can dip them in the rinsing boxes and when you're diving they stowaway to practically nothing.

#askdiversready My buddy and I are currently in the process of building our own dive storage / gear cleaning stations and I like your tips for cleaning different types of gear and was inspired by your dive locker, but I would really like to see the entire process you go through from getting out of the water to stashing the last item in your storage locker with multiple sets of gear so I can see the order, which things have separate dedicated buckets, how long some stuff is left to soak, what things go to intermediate drying outside and what structures you use for this. I feel like stuff needs to be built with the exact gear cleaning flow in mind and I’d like to get a sense for how the experts do it because though there are some things we’re pretty wedded to about our process, I often feel like we get lazy and delay some part of our gear cleaning because the current process has some clunkiness (eg I often needlessly put on a wet 7mm because I have forgotten mine in the rinse bucket after dumping it there and running for the hot tub and we have definitely gone diving two days in a row many times just so we can tell ourselves we don’t need to rinse the inside of the BCDs, even though we do have a hose attachment that hooks to the inflator and we basically never rinse our tanks and weights because those go from trunk straight to garage). I really hope we can engineer our way into reducing our laziness.

Hi James. As per DAN, they don't endorse Steramine as it isn't included in the EPA’s “List N” thus it is not an effective disinfectant against COVID19. What could be the other options? They say a bleach solution works best but won't that be harmful to our gear?

Interesting idea for a video. Even though the video went up moments ago, the affiliate link to Amazon for the wet suit hanger and I do need a few of those is no good. Perhaps you will fix that. Here is an idea for 2022, how about a discount code for the products you feature in your videos from those manufacturers ? They get to sell some extra product, your subscribers get a perk and your channel grows. Keep up the good work in 2022. All the best to you and your family.
